Keep them company. Listen without judgment. Do some grocery shopping, maybe make them a nice meal. Check in on them. Offer distractions. Just show them you're there and that you care in whatever ways are accessible to you and relevant to them. If in doubt, ask and respect the answer. Hell, even just leaving them the fuck alone would be far more helpful than calling the cops on them! But people love to imagine a false dichotomy where you either send someone to the psych ward or don't do anything, when there are lots of ways to offer support to people in distress which doesn't include denying them autonomy

Don't say you're "going nonverbal", say you're having a verbal shutdown. Nonverbals do not like their language being misused to treat nonverbality as a temporary thing.

(This is not a judgemental post to anyone who has misused the term in the past. It's a common mistake. Just please take this information in stride for the future.)

Just FYI, when I talk about schizo spec people I am referring to people diagnosed with schizo spec disorders or experiencing significant associated symptoms (none of which is murder) - if your mind immediately jumps to violent murderers who are actively killing indiscriminately the moment there's a conversation about psychosis, that's honestly on you
