Do you carry a camera everywhere? Not everywhere, it’s not entirely my style to do so, but there have definitely been occasions when I have seriously regretted this. I’m aiming to start carrying one more often.
Do you picture a consider a photo before you take it, or just shoot? Both for sure. There will be times when I will be dreaming and thinking up a photo for months before I finally take it, and then there are times when some of the most spontaneous shots are my absolute favourites.
Who do you most admire? Anyone that’s doing what they want to do, and are happy while they do it.
What did you want to be when you were younger? When I was about 5 I wanted to be a farmer, but after long periods of being lost and unknown, I discovered photography as my future at around 14.
Where are you now? Norwich, England.
What makes a great photo? Anything that has the power to make a viewer feel a strong emotive response of some form.
Film or digital, why? Absolutely film, although I do shoot a bit of digital too. Film is where my real love for photography began, and I still get that jitter when you get a film back after developing. The idea that you have to trust your gut as to whether you’ve nailed the shot, and those times when you can totally feel you have are the best. I don’t get the same gut reaction or the utter joy from digital.
Do you have any other creative hobbies/occupations? I have always enjoyed painting and drawing, and will still do a bit in my free time. Also, when I get the time I’ll sew and make clothes.
Favourite possession? This is really hard, I am in no way a materialistic person. So, I guess I’d probably go for either the entire backlog of my family photographs, or my first SLR, which was a 17th birthday present and is still my most used camera.
Regardless of money and time, where would you most like to visit and photograph? I think I could list you an endless amount here, I’m desperate to take time to travel more extensively. I can’t think of a top choice, but maybe parts of South America or Asia.
What did you have for breakfast? Cereal and a banana. It’s the same nearly every day.
What would you like to have accomplished within the next year? I am hoping to move to London after I graduate and really further my career. I’d like to be more set in the knowledge of what kind of photographer I am, and continue to develop my work and myself. If I can fit in some travelling too, that’d be the dream. It feels like a big year.
