Whumptober #19: Asphyxiation
So, A and co have been kidnapped and A has been taken to be waterboarded for information. Except the torturers are pretty naff and end up filling up A’s lungs with water. They throw A back into the cell with the rest of the kidnapees and they must fight to keep them alive and breathing.
Whumptober #20: Trembling
A cant remember how they ended up where they are: in the middle of nowhere with a dying phone and limited reception. They can’t stop shaking. Their knees buckle and they collapse onto the ground. Their body keeps shaking, their head pounds and they cannot remember a thing. They’re hurt but it hasn’t quite registered how bad it is.
The phone. In one last attempt and burst of strength, A pulls the phone into their wavering line of sight. One bar of reception. They dial the one number, the phone threatens to slip from their bloodied fingers. The ringing continues on and on and on until a voice answers. “Hello?” They sound tired, as though caught at the wrong time. “-B - B?” A stammered through shaking lips. “I- I don’t-.”
“A?” B sounds much more awake now, “Stay where you are we’re tracking your phone - Jesus- where have you been its been weeks!” Tears prick at A’s eyes, their head pounds at the task of trying to remember,
“I don- I dont kn-know.”

Literally none of my story ideas come with a plot, ever. WITHOUT FAIL, it’s always just an Aesthetic, like two and a half characters, some very, very vivid settings, and a weird concept. Never plot. Not even an inkling of a plot. My brain tosses me this cool stuff and is like welp i’ll be back in 4-5 business months
Don’t look for plots, look for problems.

This is exactly Stephen King’s approach, outlined in “On Writing”. He prefers to start with a “What if?” situation, introduce characters, and then see what they do.

A pacifist character is given a weapon and forced to fight. They refuse even when they’re battered and bloodied and barely standing. Finally, one of their friends/family members is beaten almost to death, and they have to step in – or maybe they don’t.
Whumpee talks in their sleep. Caretaker doesn’t know about it, until the night they go into check on them and Whumpee’s quietly whimpering the whumper’s name, calling them “Master” and begging them to show mercy.
OR:
Whumpee talks in their sleep. Caretaker doesn’t know about it, until the night they go into check on them and Whumpee’s quietly murmuring their name, confessing how safe and loved they feel when they’re together.
Character A watches intently as sick character B takes a spoonful of the soup they had lovingly prepared and brings it to their mouth. "How's it taste?" they ask.
B makes a curious sound around the spoon before swallowing. "Umm... I wish I could tell you," they answer with a little laugh. A flush paints their cheeks bright red, from embarrassment or perhaps just their fever A is unsure. "I can't really taste anything with my nose so stuffed up."
I’ve very into various symptoms interupting with sleep lately. You know, all the basics like bad congestion keeping someone up because it takes longer than usual to fall asleep when you can’t breath through your nose, coughing all through the night, waking up to the uncomfortably warmth of your own pillow and finding it hard to fall back asleep because even if you turn the pillow the other side is heated up by your fever in seconds. Having to deal with a constantly running nose the whole night.
That trope where Caretaker and Whumpee are having a late night heart-to-heart, Whumpee’s eyes getting heavier and heavier as Caretaker’s voice lulls them. All of a sudden Caretaker looks down and Whumpee’s fast asleep with their head on their shoulder. Caretaker’s eyes soften and their heart melts 😍

Shivering so violent it makes the whumpees body throb.
Tiredness / confusion that may be related to a fever, so they’re maybe told to just ‘go lie down’. but wake up hours later, shivering, confused and with slurred speech.
The whumpee being bundled into the warmth by carer(s).
How did they get hypothermia? Maybe the kidnapper ditched them out in a forest in the middle of winter, maybe their shelter got lost in a snowstorm, maybe the place they’re being held in has no heating as another form of torture, or the whumpee just got unlucky and their car broke down so they had to walk the rest of the journey.
The carer pealing back, dripping ice cold wet layers and forcing them into a shower - at first the hot water is painful on their skin but not five minutes in and the whumpee simply doesn’t want to leave the shower.
Burrito blankets.
The carers spotting the whumpee stumbling amid a snowstorm and rushing out to bring them into the shelter/going to look for them and finding them slumped under a tree.
Not having adequate supplies so they have to wrap the whumpee in multiple layers / put them in front of a fire and beg them to stay awake until they’ve warmed, much to the whumpees dismay.
The whumpees voice also trembling as their body practically vibrates with shivers.
Cuddling for warmth. ‘nuff said.

(Heyup this is a PFYWY original, bout time, eh?)
So imagine your OTP or that non-related sibling-like relationship shut-in of a stormy evening. The wind is howling and rain beats heavily on the window panes. Inside, A, who has just come home from the hospital / recovering from an injury or illness or genuinely feeling the weight of the world on their shoulders, is curled up on their side, head in B’s lap while aimlessly watching a television show. The heat is on but they’re still shivering under the fluffy blanket, hoodie, and sweatpants. Maybe B is slowly brushing their hair with their fingertips or an actual brush. All is calm and the two characters appreciate such a space to unwind after the recent events that had led to high-stress levels.
