need to walk up behind him and wrap my arms around his waist and kiss his shoulder and ask how his day was

feeling soft, wishing i was sitting outside with a boy, his head in my lap while i play with his hair. it's warm from the sun. his eyes are closed, and i admire his lashes, his eyebrows, his nose, i soak in every little detail of his face, thinking how wonderful it is to know him. i'm sure at some point, my hands slow as i get lost in my own thoughts, and he opens his eyes, looking up at me. i smile at him, only slightly disappointed that my moment of private admiration is over, and he smiles back.

it's not a teasing, knowing smile, but a soft, genuine one. one that makes me think that if our positions were reversed, he'd probably be staring at me too.
