Liska is slowly blinking at the wall. She isn't sure how she ended up on the floor, or even in the living room. She can smell the ash and cigarettes from the ashtray on the ornate coffee table, and the old, orange and yellow shag carpet under her feels the most amazing it has ever felt. Has it always been so soft?
Her eyes drift to the front door. Scraps is standing in the doorway, closing the screen door behind him as he eyes her. Something about it is so funny. Liska doesn't know why, but she begins to giggle to herself.
"The fuck is wrong with you?" Scraps asked, his brows knitted and his green eyes squinting at her. It's cute. It's cartoony even. She giggles more shaking her head.
"Red..." he says and clears the distance between them in a couple of steps. He's in front of her in an instant and opens her eyes wide as he looks at her.
"Hi," she says goofily and giggles mores.
He's looking around the space.
"Do you get into my weed?" He asks more concerned than angry.
"No," she says. Another snicker begins to bubble up in her throat, but she's determined to tell the truth. She is telling the truth. "I just had some brownies. And now..." she looks down at her hands and begins to open and close them. "I'm in slow-mo,"
Scraps eyes widen a bit. That's how she would normally know something is wrong. His eyes don't widen often. But right now, it's funny.
"The ones in the fridge,"
"In the green container?"
"Mhm! They were yummy but had a weird aftertaste. Did you use some of Padre's fake sugar for them?"
Scraps ran his hand over his face amd sat down against the couch next to her.
"How many brownies did you have?" He asks in as even a tone he can manage.
"Uhm... 3?" She begins to move her mouth more, opening and closing her heavy jaw. It feels dry and simultaneously wet and full. Her tongue felt huge in her mouth, and she tried to smack it back into normal shape.
Scraps was quiet for so long Liska forgot he was even there, and she felt like she would have jumped when he finally said something if she hadn't turned into a rock.
"Let's get some video games going for you, hm?" He said getting up.
She blinked and she was in his room, on the floor with a controller in her hand. The opening menu of her favorite game of his on the screen. The theme was beginning to loop again.
Scraps was now walking in through the door, a paper bag in hand, full of snacks.
"You... going to play?" He asked setting the bag down.
"I've been gone for like 20 mins, and you haven't moved," he said slightly concerned.
"Have I?" She looked around. "Oh shit, my game!" She smiled and stared at the screen more.
She heard rustling, and the next thing she knew, her favorite chips were in her lap. She gasped.
"Uh huh," Scraps nodded, sitting next to her on the floor with his own bag. "Magic chips, just for you,"
She doesn't remember the rest of the night, but Scraps said he watched her beat the whole game in absolute silence in one sitting.
And that was how Liska Shepard learned that Scraps put his home baked edibles in a green container.
