the most implausible part of this weeks murder at the end of the world is that there is no way that couple bought a pool cover that a child could drown under that easily. I refuse to believe that devoted dad with that much health and longevity anxiety would allow that kind of glaring risk in his own home.

One of my favourite things about this show so far is the way the writing goes out of its way not to glamorize serial killers and is heavily focused on learning about the victims and giving the dead names and voices. It avoids the typical “getting into the mind of a killer” so many other murder mysteries focus on. The moment of Darby and Bill reciting the names of the killer’s victims as he stood above them was haunting and powerful; most people tend to only remember the names of the killers and never their victims and I love that the narrative avoids this. It really makes you feel that Darby and Bill (despite his claim that he merely does this because he likes puzzles) are seeking justice for these women. I also commend Brit and Zal’s refusal to show violence toward women on screen.

Still pissed we'll never know who the OA's brother/protector is supposed to be.

I would prefer it to be Steve, but I like the theory that it's actually Hap inadvertently helping her despite his nefarious nature.

Ohhhhh I haven’t heard this theory before!!! And I gotta say... I’m intrigued!

He follows her in every dimension.

He moves her forward, pushing along her progress.

He loves her.

He knows her better than ... anyone? Does he??

He also fundamentally misunderstands her, pushes his chores off on her & doesn’t take her ideas seriously. Lol.

hey remember how in s1 we were introduced to jonathan byers who was a 16 year old boy working late shifts to support his family and who would do ANYTHING to save his little brother because family comes above all else and “only love makes you that crazy” wasn’t really about nancy it was about joyce & will because he didn’t hit steve until steve brought up his family and he was just so full of love and care even if he had trust issues and didn’t want to seem soft but he WAS soft in his little sweaters with his fluffy hair talking about his dad forcing him to shoot a rabbit and hey remember how he literally grew up in a broken home as a child of abuse with a shitty raging alcoholic father who it’s implied definitely hit him at least once and had so many issues with his mom and i know, i KNOW jonathan spent his childhood putting himself between lonnie and joyce/will because he wanted to protect the people he loved from the man who was supposed to love them but didn’t at all. because jonathan took on the father figure role from a very young age because he had to. he had to learn how to fend for himself. he is a child of abuse and a child of a low-income household and everything he did was because of love for his family and… now he has the personality and characterization equivalent of untoasted bread. and i’m just a bit fucking mad about it.
