RVRB Live Streaming Calendar

Quick update!

Just a heads up that I’m reviving Your New Favorite Band. I stopped updating Tumblr because I wanted Your New Favorite Band to be more of a group effort. So I created a Facebook group to encourage people who aren’t on Tumblr to share their favorite underplayed bands.

Since then, I’ve become active on a live streaming site, JQBX. Your New Favorite Band lives on there as a place for live streaming amazing bands you don’t hear on corporate radio.

So why revive the Tumblr? Because we’re going to be scheduling monthly online events to share synth songs, retro favorites, and recent obsessions. Check here for updates.

I love Angel Haze. She is the fiercest thing in rap right now. There's been all the hype lately about Azealia Banks, but while "212" is one of the freshest things to hit hip-hop in a while, Banks lacks the consistence in quality you get from Angel Haze. 

Not that there's any reason to compare them, other than: if you like "212" check this track out...or "A Tribe Called Red" or "New York" or any of her songs, because she gets it DONE.

Not only that, she can sing too.

Washington, D.C. producer Alex Young first stormed on to my radar last year with his brilliant house remix of The Neighbourhood’s Sweater Weather, a flip which he named SWTRWTHR. Today, he offers up a remix of Aussie synthpop band Miami Horror’s Real Slow, giving the jam some wonderful summer vibes and arresting, luminous synths. Alex Young is currently working on his debut EP, and I’m eager to hear it. For now, let’s revisit SWTRWTHR again below, because I’m still stuck on that ish. Amazing.

Alright, so we’ve gone through our fair share of remixes of Lana Del Rey’s ubiquitous, well loved single West Coast, off her upcoming album Ultraviolence. They’ve all been stellar, giving us all kinds of takes on the beautiful tune. We’ve heard remixes by Dan Auerbach himself (The Black Keys), GRADES, Hippie Sabotage, and even the elusive Four Tet. Add to the list of excellent remixes this new one by Vancover/Los Angeles (hey, WEST COAST!) producer STINT, aka Ajay Bhattacharyya. He gives West Coast a laid back, carefree atmosphere fleshed out with terrific horns and charismatic whistles. How many more amazing remixes are we going to hear of West Coast? I don’t know, nor would I mind if they keep coming out of the woodwork, since they’re all sounding so dang good.
