Just so to keep them shut
and let them see:
Me,
walking the lined path
in a Goddamn’ same, straight forward
But you guess what
I ain’t a crayola
Lining through a rula’
Because O My Bee!
I’m more of a freehand-tool
roaming around
((( unpretentiously )))
while dancin’ N believin’
and cant help; but
to live
free
I wonder how life would be if I happened to live around 50, 80 or 100 years ago. Will it be simpler or boring? Will it be enough or full of cravings? Will it be more laid-back or mostly narrow-minded? Or will it be... just the same?
It didn’t take me long to switch my reading interest to reflection mode as I was sweeping the first few lines from one of the world’s largest casual wear retailer magazine (see cover image). On the about page, they mentioned the team’s process behind this publication; “Over the past six months, we’ve spent a lot of time considering the relationships between cities, people and clothes. What does livability mean to a personal level, to different people all over the world, and what kind of clothing suits it best?...” and so on and so forth.
Whoa..whoaa.. Wait and stop here. So, they’d basically spent almost 1/2 a year just to examine people’s lifestyle? Well, sometimes these things caught myself wondering... About the world I’m currently living in. About the world I’m currently building on. About the amount of capital we sacrifice and spend, be it money, time, pride, love. About how are we, a 21st-century generation, who is prone to get a more apparent connection but always fail to be in harmony with one another. About all the content around us, that is seasoned with urban cradles and the so-called creative traps, and are always unceasingly intertwining in our everyday life.
In the past, people used to simply barter things, then the various type of currency systems and now.. trading is more than exchanging material with coins. To sell, we require more experts, more effort, more tactics and most importantly — a deeper value on what to gain and what to believe. We’ll spend billion creative tricks to sell, invest and weirdly, studying each other’s habit while around the other corner, another group is studying us to sell their stuff at the same time. Or, probably the simplest premise can go something like these:
“Every item needs a story because we are afraid of the ordinary.”
“Everything needs to be extraordinary because we are living in a big, boring, bright city.”
“Everyone needs to chase an obscure luxury, or at least up to their own self-definition of success, fashion, and satisfaction.”
“And amid the 21st century, no goods and services can be a best-seller just by lying around as it is.”
Again, with the objects being sold along with viral stories, campaigns, pretty faces, sometimes by blood, fights, heartbreak and tears.. the principal forces that will bind them all is again, the allure of stories.
Be it controversial, selling or unnerving, it doesn’t matter. We just need to hear another new story around us, or a new distraction to be precise. One that will keep bothering us from doing a wiser thing for our inner worlds, such as the simplest notion of gratification, feelings of adequacy, inner-reflection and mindfulness.
Again, it’s too bad.
Because we are now born in a society that demands us to feel inadequate all the time.
And forcing us to complete ourselves every time.
And if we are not being mindful, we’ll enter the trap, be dumbfounded and eventually inventing our own need to require all those things that the world constantly offer under our nose (or at everyone’s fingertips).
Because if you happened to read until this end of the page, you are currently reading a paradoxical piece of writing. As this discourse is written by me, a Copywriter (read: a writer who writes persuasive content) whose day-to-day job is to analyze you, your likes and dislikes and formulate the perfect word-combos and campaign or we say with ‘insight’.. so you’ll finally be persuaded to consume what the current brand or subject that I’m working with is selling on.
Well, we always got time.
This is basically just a tiny dot of scenario out of my creative modern world. Once in a blue moon, let’s do the #MarieKondo on all aspects of our life before we’ll repeat the barter traps on each other’s lives. :D
Warm Regards,
Yosephine Salim
GENESIS 1827
Then Abraham spoke up again: “Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes”
.
.
Been feeling small lately, not in a sense of being cornered — but more in a realization of how funny sometimes we can be, working days and nights... pursuing this and that... searching for status, power, commitment and recognition... yet after-all, we will all be returning to be a headless figure, dust and ashes... Yes reading this verse, have given me a reminder to be less demanding, simple and more surrender with my process(es). 😊🙏🏻
Hugging Vulnerability 3/3
—
To aware that everything you touch, see, hug, care, promise.. is as imperfect, as temporary and as uncertain as you — yet to still have that courage to be walking on that aisle, plan or dreams.. probably that’s a conscious act on being vulnerable — like really showing up yourself to the core and center of meaningful human experiences.. and trusting that the best part will come afterwards: an indescribable magical reward that only you will know how much it worth. Ouch, that’s all courageous works, dear

You may fear, you may plan, you may love, you may leave, you may doubt, you may be lost, you may fall, you may drop, you may change.. but dear, you shall never stop going, you shall never stop believing.
