We’ve been busy making the final touches to our latest release. Thanks to Ravensbourne university and the amazing artist and design educator Soofiya, for teaching us new skills in Illustrating, and zine making.
Back @ Brightrooms, we’ve been in the studio shooting self portraits and printing our our negatives in a wet darkroom! We experimented with how we wanted to be represented, studio lighting and vintage cameras! What do you think?!
A few more prints from our time in the darkroom! Experimenting with light and composition, next session we are taking and printing our own negatives!
We joined the Bright rooms last sessions for photogram workshops! The first time we have ever been in a real darkroom, a step up from our DIY pop up last year!
With our new gallery and workshop space coming in the future, we started writing manifestos. Thinking about what we need in our daily lives and the new gallery to be happy!
More trips! We went to Tate Exchange the other week to see Peckham Platform’s SERP Reactivated exhibition.
For this project we’ve moved into Peckham Levels, sharing the space with 10 point 5 Gallery and the Bright rooms has been a breath of fresh air for us whilst we wait for the new Gallery to be built.
Gather and create!
The Young Barbicans invited us to a private view of the current photography exhibition ‘Another Kind of Life’ looking at photography on the margins. Thank you!
Highlights for us were seeing Bruce Davidson's images. Even when we are out you can’t stop us making and of course, we had to go and see the conservatory!
Old and current and some new members of Youth Platform, had a reunion to reflect on their memories and experiences of YP!
Our latest project is ‘Looking Back, Looking Forward’ using a timeline we are thinking about the future of YP and how we want to shape it in the future!
Last week, Youth Platform looked at artist Tracey Emin's quilts and had a go at making their own text art using fabric!

YP work inspired by Wadsworth Jarrell
Last week we got creative and political! Inspired by the work of artist Wadsworth Jarrell, YP personalised photographs using paint pens and oil pastels.
YP had a go at screen printing in response to artist Shephard Fairey, well known for pairing words and images to make a strong statements. Less is more!
Started a new project about artists who use text in their work to express themselves! Barbara Kruger's stark black and white images with bold captions remind us of newspaper headlines and advertising. We explored how certain words paired with an image can change how we think and feel about it. Here are the outcomes! #youthplatform #peckhamplatform#barbarakruger
We’ve made collages exploring mainstream media's representation of gender and expectations
