It wasn't every day that you came to work with Kafka but you were told by him that the Defense Force letters were due to come in today and he was like a kid in a candy store. It was a nice change to see him so excited about his last chance. And you were going to be able to meet the co-worker who had convinced him, hoping you were going to have a chance to thank him as well.
You had taken the day off from work today to come in since Kafka mentioned he had no clue at what time the mail would be delivered. So to ensure you didn't miss it, you just decided to take the day off from work.
"Excuse me..." You called out as you walked into the small building, Kafka close behind you.
"No need to be so formal, babe! The guys have met you plenty of times!" He patted you on the back as he walked towards a young co-worker, assuming it to be the one he had mentioned to you, you walked over to introduce yourself.
"Ichikawa, right? I've heard plenty about you from Kafka but I'm (name)." You stuck out your hand for the young guy to shake, which he complied.
"Just call me Leno." He shook your hand before turning to Kafka again to talk about... something. You had spaced out after you heard them talking about clean ups to prevent yourself from becoming grossed out by their talk of cleaning the intestines and such. You've heard enough about that from Kafka on the days he had intestine duty...
It hadn't been long before one of his other co-workers, who you couldn't remember the name of, had popped his head in holding two envelopes.
"Kafkaa, Ichikawaa, mail." He waved the envelopes in his hand before handing them to Leno when the boy got up to grab them and thank the co-worker.
"This one's for you, Sir." He slid the yellow-ish envelope across the table to Kafka before starting to open his own. Poor Kafka, you could see it on his face just how nervous he was about opening the envelope, the countless failed attempts were all catching up to him now. "Ah! I passed, Sir!" Excitedly, Leno showed the recruitment paper to Kafka that had a 'You passed.' on the top. Placing your hand on Kafka's shoulder, you gave him a reassuring smile.
He took a deep breath before sliding the paper out of the envelope and taking a look at it. You weren't sure what had happened at the test this time since he was exhausted when he came home and immediately hit the sack. Before you could even read what the paper had said on it, he jumped up from his seat. "WOO!" He threw his arms up in celebration. Passed.
"Congratulations, love," You smiled at his excitement. "But please sit back down.."
