I watched the "Viv says Val doesn't understand consent" vid and ppl can't seriously think she's endorsing/making light of real SA?

She and her two directors (everyone seems to leave out mentioning the other people for some reason??) are commenting on the fact that Val owns a club called "Consent" despite the fact that he's a known rapist. So they joke that he must not know what consent means ("he's so silly and dumb" light-hearted vibes).

Like many real abusers, Val has duality. He's not scary 100% of the time. That's what makes him sinister. They consider him cute because he IS. He's designed that way on purpose. He's funny and charming in one moment, and then he's abusing people around him a second later. All they are doing is calling attention to that contrast with their joke.

They weren't excusing his abusive behaviors.

Viv even calls him a moron, and then HER DIRECTORS add, "He's OUR moron." To which Viv agrees because he's her carefully-crafted VILLAIN character.

Viv ALSO immediately talks about Angel learning to rebel from Val's abuse. But no one talks about that part of the vid because it doesn't fit into their "Viv is an evil rape-fetishist" narrative.

This was absolute glazing, and missing the fucking point. They also were at a recent panel joking that he was a "businessman" until Amir Tali pointed out he was a rapist, and the entire team went quiet.

They are trying to soft-launch him into a better light and whitewash his bull shit. Viv is making light of it because it entertains here. But I see you using the "queer woman of color" defense and shield to put in front of her. That doesn't matter. It DOES NOT MATTER if she was a fucking celestial being who cured cancer. It doesn't matter if she has a clam, or a hot dog, or what race she is.

Val, however, is not a real person. If we were talking about a real rapist, it would be different, obviously.

Viv is a real person. She's a living, breathing woman of color (not sure why me mentioning that bothers you??). Women of color are, in fact, subject to harsher criticism on the internet than white men. It is not outlandish to bring attention to that fact given the way the internet is tearing her down at a rate I've never seen a problematic white male showrunner go through. Plenty of white male creators in hollywood make the exact rape apologist movies/shows that ya'll seem to think Viv makes. There's no way you genuinely think she's public enemy No. 1?

Again, ya'll are jumping Viv for talking about her own fictional characters how she wants to. At most, she's being annoying and that's not a crime nor does it warrant the horrible things I've seen posted about her.

Let's address your tags: "OP is kind of an idiot." & "OP doesn't actually care." That's untrue and unnecessary? Hey, I'm a real person behind this screen! I live a real life with ups and downs! You can disagree with me without needing to insult my intelligence, dude. Let's talk like adults. I do care about rape survivors and preventing real world harm, I just don't think crucifying Viv for misinterpreted humor going to tangibly help anyone.

I kinda don't know what else to say about this topic. I'm not trying to make her out to be perfect, but she's also clearly not encouraging rape/harm towards real people.
