twelve lessons from twelve months in recovery
food is not as scary as whatever it is inside you that drives your illness
positivity isnāt always the answer, and negativity is never the answer, but loving yourself is so much harder than they said it would be
your treatment team is right, even when it feels wrong and even when it hurts and even when you canāt admit it to yourself
every time you have an opportunity to relapse, you also have an opportunity to choose recovery
your eating disorder was not beautiful, and your illness is not special
you are special and you are beautiful
we are all of infinite worth, and if i can believe that of you, i can believe that of me
your body is a vessel; when you want to destroy it, pamper it; when you want to hide from it, flaunt it; when you want to claw out of your own skin, say a prayer of thankfulness for the body god gave you
every time you think youāre finally hitting the hard work, you will laugh at yourself six months in the future; there is always more progress to be made
you are this beautiful work in progress, and things will always change; nothing will be permanent, nothing will last forever
itās okay not to be okay. itās also okay to let yourself feel joy again
recovery is so much more than food and weights and treatments and teams and rules; recovery is freedom and light and love and we all deserve it.
