YJ; formerly known as Yung Jared Tha Juvenile discovered his affinity with Hip-Hop in '96 aged just 6 years old, after hearing the song 'Hit 'Em High' from the Space Jam Soundtrack featuring B-Real, Coolio, Method Man, LL Cool J & Busta Rhymes. A young Yung Jared then soaked up all of the Hip-Hop that he possibly could skipping through his Mum's 'Now That's What I Call Music' compilation CD's picking out the Hip-Hop records. Still at a very young age, Jared use to put together Hip-Hop Mixtapes on his parents’ computer for friends and family, mainly his cousins. Around about the age of 13/14 YJ formed the group O.R.B. (Original Rude Boiz) with his childhood friend Karac. Karac and Yung Jared started out by remixing classic Hip-Hop records for rap forums, taking the instrumentals and adding their own lyrics, they were also well known for memorising rap verses and reciting them for their school friends. At college YJ began selling bootlegged Mixtapes as well as freestyling in public cyphers and after battling two signed Hip-Hop artists Wayne & Calvin, he impressed them so much that they invited him with them to 'Wordplay Studios' in Tottenham and introduced him to fellow group members TK & Kammir who taught YJ about recording and gave him his nickname ‘Yung’ (being significantly younger than the rest of the crew).
During this time YJ also exchanged diss records with local artist Foreign Kid which led to him later changing his name to Supa Kid. After the rest of the group (Streetmuney) left college and moved away YJ got involved with beatboxer D-Sharp & rapper Fusion who were well connected with many up and coming underground artists and producers. By the time Fusion got sent to prison YJ had already become a regular on the pirate radio circuit (later taking part in a set on DJ Big Beatz show) and brought through to the local studio some younger artists from his home town Harlow; including Myndless, Mdot, Murka & Kyian. YJ then started producing and began to establish his name on the UK underground scene having his first instrumental single release 'Deliver the Hype' spun on BBC Introducing. YJ's first notable production credit was producing an official remix for Jin (Angels) who had been the main inspiration when a young Jared first started rapping and freestyling, he also later received a thank you credit in the liner notes of Jin's ‘XIV:LIX’ album. A while after, Jared met Floetic; the two started to work together on Hip-Hop records and the duo initially had a good reception and things looked promising, even opening for Marvell at Scorch nightclub. However, due to a falling out over artistic differences they both went their separate ways. Legendary Grime producer Teeza of Beat Creatures recognising his potential then took YJ under his wing as a protégé and brought him through introducing him to Dot Rotten who had just set up his own label Minarmy co-founded by Ed Sheeran. Appreciating YJ's ambition, he earned a place in the Minarmy roster after submitting his instrumental demo tape 'Tha Boi Wunda'. YJ went on to release a joint EP with Teeza (YJEEZA), a joint EP with Dot Rotten (OVO) and a full instrumental album 'Wundaful' featuring a number of skits from his favourite artists growing up. YJ associated with fellow Minarmy members Fly and Bilzar, supporting Bilzar at his first 'Don't Flop' rap battle event and appearing in the Minarmy music video '2 Sides'. YJ also released a joint EP with vocalist/poet Eklipse called 'Children of the Gold N' Era' after meeting him at one of Esskay's video shoots. As well as producing YJ continued to put together promotional Mixes for the UK and released official Mixes for Shyheim, Canibus, Drag-On and Chingy which he compiled for release on 'Tha Boi before Tha Wunda'. YJ frequently collaborated with J-Hood who he grew up listening to and who was the biggest influence on his style at the time and even featured on a skit on ‘Uncrowned King’ & his #BestOfHood 'The Collection' Mixtape. YJ had always wanted to work with his favourite rapper Cassidy but had never seen an opportunity to until he was dissed by fellow Philly rapper Meek Mill; feeling personally about the situation YJ put together a Mix of Cassidy and his artist Jag's diss records aimed at Meek which Cassidy co-signed with a drop. YJ released the Mix but due to politics behind the scenes had to remove it from his labels outlets and release it independently. In response, YJ put together an entire Mixtape project of Cassidy's recent tracks and freestyles followed up by a further Mix which was YJ's most successful series of projects to date. YJ and Cassidy soon spoke on the phone and the 'Don't Trust Anyone' Mixtape series was put together. This then caught the eye of DJ E Stacks a part of 'Shadyville DJ's' who made YJ a representative of his own movement, 'Audio Fix'. Under Audio Fix, YJ started his own Mixtape series co-signed by Bizarre of D12, 'YJUKNO'; the first volume being hosted by frequent collaborator J-Hood and the second by former Ghost Shadows Chinese gang member China Mac. YJ also put together a mixtape for G-Unit's Young Buck but after industry politics prevented a certified release date the project leaked and YJ walked away from a potential situation with Shadyville. YJ then released 'Don't Trust Anyone 2 (#DTA2)’ after popular demand due to the success of the first Mixtape. ‘DTA2’ was heavily promoted by Cassidy himself and was picked up by ‘Hip-Hop Daily 24/7’ as well as other online Hip-Hop blogs, at one point being the most searched Cassidy Mixtape on the internet. Cassidy then flew YJ out to New York to start work on 'Don't Trust Anyone 3' (now a part of Cassidy’s official discography, distributed by Def Squad), securing his position as an official affiliate of Cassidy’s Mayhem Music/Larsiny Fam. YJ spent a week with Cassidy in New York attending numerous recording sessions, even being mentioned by Cassidy in a lyric.
'Don't Trust Anyone 3' went on to do 50,000+ digital downloads (Silver) and after Cassidy went on Power 99's DJ Cosmic Kev The Come Up Show to promote the Mixtape with a Freestyle was mentioned by XXL Magazine. YJ was nominated for ‘Best International DJ’ of 2016 by the ‘All-Star Mixtape Awards’ and released a project collecting some of his more notable records in rotation on the project ‘Son of Anarchy’ Hosted by Dipset’s Hell Rell (which appeared in Overtime Hustlin’ magazine issue #7). YJ also wrote ‘Like Dipset’ featuring 40 Cal. for ‘Easy Listening Vol. 19’ Hosted by Jay Bezel and had a drop on Blitz McBain’s ‘Campaign 4’ with J.R. Writer. YJ produced an official remix featuring West Philly’s Freck Billionaire, mediated the artwork design and release of Cyssero’s ‘L.I.T.’ series featuring The Game and was mentioned by T-Mack of Thuggacation on ‘Remy Ma & Papoose – Bonnie & Clyde’ Hosted by DJ Easy. YJ recently released Stan Spit ‘Lost Chronicles’ and gave an exclusive ‘5 In The Chamber’ audio interview talking about Cassidy, Minarmy, J-Hood & UK Grime. YJ is set to return with new label ‘Omeros Recording Bank’, a youth programme with Karac ‘UnderGround Saints’ and has a distribution deal with DPMG/SRG-ILS/CAROLINE/UNIVERSAL.
Jared also has an uncredited cameo appearance in the feature film 'Bonded By Blood 2 Essex Boys: The New Generation'.
