i'll never forget reading my first young adult novel that actually featured a sex scene. the girl was described as wearing this locket throughout the whole book, and it was supposed to be this dainty little thing, very delicate and girly, and it always had the guy wondering whose picture was inside of it. and during the sex scene it turns out that she was using that locket to store a condom, just in case. it's been literal years but sometimes i'll still lie awake in the middle of the night as i'm trying to work out the logistics of how to fit a condom inside of a locket.
