Yurei no Monogatari, a story of Spirits

Welcome to Yurei no Monogatari! A world centered around Japanese legends of spirits and demons, war and saddness, but also happiness. This story, taking place in Sengoku Jidai, resolves around the ones who were abandoned and mistreated by the ones they trusted once. Follow their lives and see what came of them.

More info on each of these Characters:

Suzumushi/Suzume is a Zashiki-Warashi, a spirit that has the appearance of a child and brings fortune to which ever house they decided to stay on.(design not finished)

Yuu and Masaru are a type of Kyōkotsu, yokai born from bones which were improperly disposed of by being discarded down a well.

Daichi is a Bakemono, your average yokai that looks like a giant human with animalistic features.

Yasu(and Masami) are Shinigami, guides for the souls towards hell so Enma-Daio can Judge them.

Tohru and Kohaku, just like Daichi, are Bakemono.

Kiku is a Jubokko, a vampiric yokai tree that feeds on human and animal blood.

Kagami is a Onryo, a vengeful yurei. She was sealed inside a mirror at some point in the story. She lives to takes vengeance in those she believes that abandoned her as a baby.

Isamu is a Tengu, adopted by Daichi after being Kidnapped and abused by rogue samurai as a child. She swore loyalty to Daichi and to take the lives of those same samurai.

Kaede is a Nekomata, but also a doctor. She makes medicines and helps yokai in need after being attacked or nearly exorcised by passing monks.

Tomoe, or rather, Hanae(geisha - originally called Taikomochi or Hokan- name) is a Nopperabou, a yokai with no face at all. After dying, Tomoe believed that he wasnt beautiful anymore and even after being invited into the yokai village, he still wore a mask over his “faceless visage” around other yokai, only taking part in pranks against humans along with kitsune and baketanuki when bored.

Hello everyone, Hermy here!

If you’ve known this blog for some time, you’ll notice a lot of posts now have my icon on them and a lot of changes have been made to accomodate the transition from an Undertale AU to an original story.

As Hikari’s friend, I offered to help organize things a little and so here I am! I probably won’t post here a lot as my role is mostly helping with backend stuff, but I still figured I’d introduce myself and let you know that no, I have not hijacked this blog or anything of the sort! I’m just new to the crew!

With that said, it’s a pleasure to be a part of this project and I hope all of you will keep following YureiTale as it changes and grows!

To everyone who has been reading Yureitale

I have good news and bad news: 

 The good news is that I'm not giving up on this story/comic and I already have lots of stuff for it 

 The bad news is... It won't be an Undertale AU anymore. 

 All the character designs will be changed to stray from their bases. 

The story will still be inspired by Undertale, but I'll have to change a lot of it because I want it to be completely original. All “Undertale AU” tags will be replaced by the “Yureitale comic” tag.

 I hope you all understand. It will still be about yokai and lovable skeletons, but any obvious ties to the original Undertale brand will be removed. 

 Thank you for your attention and I hope you'll still follow this comic and what I have in store for it!

*Heeeey, @hikaricotta!  I’m your summer @undertailsecretsanta​ !  =D  I had a lot of fun going through your AU’s blog to find info to write something for you.  I really hope I did it justice; I’m a real sucker for Japanese legends and that particular time period.  Let me apologize in advance though if I got anything wrong.  ^^;  I hope you like it, dear!

Pairing:  Frisk/Sans  (Suzume/Yuu, as they’re called in the AU) AU: YureiTale ( @yureitale ) Rating: Teen

Flickering lights floated throughout the moonlit forest clearing as a young woman clad in a kimono lifted her arms and did a slow twirl, taking in the beauty of the sight.  Her companion leaned against a tree, carefully keeping an eye(socket) out while her guard was down.

Idly, the skeleton demon found himself wondering just when things had changed so drastically between them.

The shift had been so subtle – a barely perceptible pivot, if anything.  One moment, she was his charge, a spirit still clinging to the notion of life despite everything (one he had protected from the truth on an oath he had regretted) and the next moment, she felt so natural by his side that he actually felt restless during the brief periods when she was away.  

When had he begun to see her as more than just a memory he had tried to forget – the memory of his own demise?  Of the cruelty humans showed by nature?  Of the well that had become their tomb?  Of the darkness that rushed up to meet him as he desperately reached for his little brother?  

That darkness had become a part of Yuu when he and his brother, Masaru, left the mortal realm and entered the demon forest.  He had been but a little human boy when it happened, but as he grew to adulthood as a demon, the hate festered within.  His brother, who had been an infant upon their death, was spared Yuu’s hatred for humanity.  On the contrary, humans fascinated Masaru, yet Yuu did all he could to scare humans away from the forest with floating skulls and illusionary magic meant to terrify them.  He never actively pursued the humans, of course; although he loathed them, he tried to keep that side of him away from his brother, stamping it down to focus on providing him all the love and support he deserved.

Masaru… Was that when the shift began?  When she always showed such kindness to his brother?  When she, despite not knowing that she was no longer a mere human girl, but a spirit, refused to cower or fight the monsters of the forest?  She had always been so accepting of them, and despite being a person of few words (he’d heard her soft, melodic voice a handful of times), she managed to befriend most of the demons she came across – including Masaru.

Or was it when she became accepting of him that things changed?

There was a time when his woven hat had flown off from a brisk breeze, revealing the protruding horns atop his head to her for the first time.  She had been surprised to see them.  Apparently, being a skeleton demon wasn’t that big of a deal, but when horns got added to the mix, she became curious.  She had reached out without thinking, and he felt her gentle, exploratory touch along the edge of his horn.  Instantly, he jolted back and fumbled for his hat, but she had simply given him a radiant, fearless smile.  

He’d felt the ghost of her touch the rest of the night after that.

His hatred was kept stamped down, buried somewhere to shield her from its ugliness.  She had been dealt a crumby hand, too, he had quickly realized, and they were kindred spirits in a sense.  She had no shortage of friends throughout the forest, yet despite that, she always seemed to be drawn back to his side.  She discovered the truth of what happened to her – and what she was now – and although she still had moments from time to time where she missed her place among the mortals, she had made it clear that she wouldn’t change a thing.

Death… brought me to you.

The image of her standing before him with a watery smile, her hands clasped together at her chest while she mustered those words was a memory he would cherish for eternity.

I might not have put all information of the characters on my blog(Suzume gets more talkative after Gaster re-appears) but…omg…you did an amazing job at describing them and their relationship post-Chara and Post-Flowey.

And the way you put the echoflowers there….uuugh i dont have words…i’m crying….its really amazing.

I’m so glad i’m able to read such amazing fic. Thank you so much.

And yes! Its ok that you went with Suzume instead. Its her given name so no problem ^^ Suzumushi(’Cricket’ in japanese) is just a cute nickname that Yuu gave her when they meet, as he didnt know her name back then. 

I couldnt just….see Yuu call her “Suzume-chan” ^^;

Some sketches i made while working on Yureitale comic.

I drew Wendy and Webber from “Don’t Starve” for my little brother to explain how to draw hair.

And an attempt at a design for Kitsune for YureiTale universe. Kitsune are supposed to be a mix of merchants, musicians, dancers and tricksters(basically japanese gypsies) kitsunes, but i’ll need to work on them.

The light dots on her kimono are supposed to be fireflies, which in asian legends represent the dead’s spirits lingering on earth. But it want for that motif i used them on her kimono, it was because…..it looked cute…

What’s this? A new design?

Hint: It’s that beautiful PERSON besides Shin on the first two pages of Yureitale Comic.

Not going to re-draw them on the pages, i’m going to leave them like that. The new design will be showed off on the next chapters and mini comics. 

I dint feel very confortable with this character using a hood and a cloak that didnt exist in feudal japan, especially how i’m trying to go with “historically correct” clothing, so I made a little research on what to use as a substitute and found what women would use on their head while traveling(especially high-class women) so i just took the idea and used it here.

Another fun headcanon for this character is, depending on the soul they are going to collect/help(being the Shinigami of course), they can change gender to make the soul more relaxed. I used their female form here, they usually look like this when going around with Shin.

btw…..I FINALLY GOT A NEW COMPUTER!! *confetti*

Delays ahoy

Hey all, been a while since I spoke to you, huh?

Unfortunately I am here for the bad news! Woo. pops a party popper 

Hikari wont be able to post any pages until further notice due to a few events. 

On the happy side, she got a job, so let’s all congratulate her and give her a big round of applause!

On the downside, there are technical issues and she is having a serious problem posting anything on tumblr.

Let’s all wish her great luck at her job and hope the issues clear up fast. in the meantime I will be popping on now and then to update things in her absence. Thank you for your understanding and patience!
