Rio looked around after she had appeared in a strange city. Because of the boredom, she teleported herself to somewhere, and finally landed on this city. Suddenly, Rio saw a boy near there and quickly approached him. "Hi," she began, "I'm lost. Can you tell me where this is?"

Yusaku was on his way to meet up with Kusanagi after school.

A girl with purple and blue hair, in shade somewhat similar to his, approached him near the park asking for directions.

“…This is the central park”

since the girl was wearing a school uniform he has never seen before he concluded that…

“You don’t seem to be from around here… Where do you want to go?”

“Cyberse!?” Merag winked. She had never heard about it before. “It’s interesting,” she commented.

She frowned when her attack was negated. “It’s good. I end my turn here. At this moment, Blizzard Falcon’s ATK returns to normal.”

“...Cyberse are...nothing special” He wasn’t honest with his answer, as due to his lost memories, he himself didn’t know the reason for their existence.

‘2 Sets…’ More importantly Playmaker already had low resources to work with, and with 2 set cards the chances of being caught in a trap were high... but doing nothing would be an even bigger risk.

“My turn…. Draw! I set a card, and summon Draconnet(1400/1200)! It’s effect lets me special summon a lv 2 or lower normal monster from my deck or hand, I summon my 3rd Bittron from my deck in def position! Arrow heads confirmed! Summon conditions 2+ effect monsters, I set Honeybot and Draconnet in Link Markers! Link summon! Decode Talker(2300/Link 3)! Decode Talker gains 500 atk for each monster this card points to, with Bittron at the zone this card points to, it’‘s attack is increased by 500(2300>2800)!” Decode Talker was summoned at the zone previously occupied by Honeybot.

“Battle! I attack Blizard Falcon with Decode Talker!” Decode Talker Lunges forward with his sword materializing in his hand.

Akira didn’t often go into Vrains, mostly due to lack of reason, but today he logged in, brushing dust from his suit’s shoulders. His efforts to find Playmaker thus far had been unsuccessful from the real world, so one change in approach was to go where he was.

He could not challenge the other, but he could perhaps appeal to his better nature: they both wanted the Knights of Hanoi gone, so perhaps some sort of alliance could be met?

Yusaku Fujiki’s eyes were burned through his computer monitor as he was working for his school project in his house. He got a notification from Kusanagi about a particular individual.

<Security Chief of Sol Tech. Akira Zaizen has appeared in Link Vrains. I’m currently working so I can’t look into him. I’m leaving it up-to you if you want to pursue him....Just remember that it can be a trap> Kusanagi Souichi

Yusaku created a force log out code in case he needed it. He took Ai who from the glass case and entered the secret cabinet from below the stairs. it took him a bit of time but...

“Deck set. Into the Vrains!” His mind was filled with information as he entered the online space, the world grew to infinity.

According to their research, Sol Tech. may have the information that they were looking for. This may be his chance...

...Akira Zaizen, why are you here?“ Co-ordinates were set to where Akira was and he appeared right behind him.

Den City was colored Orange, not from some paint or anything, but the Sun itself had dyed the Den City in it’s own image. It was a fine evening as Yusaku was returning from his School.

He had to stop by Kusanagi’s place to discuss their next course of action as they were lacking in information about their targets, the Knights of Hanoi.

He reached the City Plaza where city monitors were showing the latest Speed Duel in Link VRAINS. It was crowded, as people cheered over every dangerous move the players were making.

Kusanagi usually works at this time but today he was nowhere to be found so Yusaku decided to mingle in the crowd for a while to observe the ongoing Speed Duels…

However a different Voice that he had never heard before called out to him.

Ava was in the crowd with her hands in her sweater pockets. She wore a black sweater with a grey hoodie, dark tan shirt, blue jeans and black shoes. She has short black hair. She was enjoying the Speed Duels then spots a boy beside her. “Hi there.” Ava said shyly in a soft way.

Sounds filled the plaza with loud cheering and whistles. Yusaku’s brain filtered out the noise for him as he was standing. In his mind, the scene was as serene as his focus was sharp. In that instance however his focus was broken with a sound, slightly high pitched with slightly low decibels.

He turned his head to the right slightly, eyes following to see a girl in casual cloths with dark hair.

“...Hello...” There was a slight awkwardness as he spoke to this stranger but he managed a proper greeting.

“...You are...?”

Yusaku seemed to react slowly to the offer, she could almost hear the clock ticking. ‘Have I said too much?’

But it was OK, it seemed. She was glad he agreed, since she only wanted to help. Fortunately, making an observer account wasn’t as complicated as making a Duel account, just requiring an email address, a name, and a preset icon to choose from, so they were done in just a few minutes.

“There we go! All set up.” she smiled gently and put her phone away. “You’ll be able to log on from any tablet or computer, and I made sure not to save anything on my phone.”

Yusaku really was an analyst, it seemed. His reasoning was sound, and since he didn’t have much to start from, it was probably the best way to work towards Speed Duels, Aoi mused. If he learned as well as he argued his points, he might end up being a really strong duelist.

“That sounds reasonable. I hope the club can help you get a hang of the rules quickly, then.” She tapped her chin. “And I don’t mind testing decks with you. There are some simulators online, or we could just use the Speed Duel format here, once you’ve got something planned.”

With Aoi’s help, Yusaku was able to make his observer account. It’s apparent purpose was to help Yusaku get the hang of Speed Dueling before he starts to make his deck.

“...Thanks for helping me with setting up my account” he says, looking over Aoi’s shoulder at the door. In the midst of creating his account, other club members showed up one by one to participate in club activities. Afterwards a lecture from Hosoda was supposed to be followed.

“If you don’t mind, can we continue after the club activities are over?” A sudden request for which his reasoning was vague. Usually, collaborating with other club members would have produced better results in helping him learn. However, considering who he is, If more people were to be involved in this little operation, it would get difficult for him to maintain his Identity in the future.

“Even on an observer level, lets try out Link Vrains after school”

The club room was quite as they sat in the club room. Yusaku could tell from her expression that Aoi was still feeling down from their conversation earlier, although it was better than what he thought could have happened. He put his bag on the table and took a breather.

Afterwards their conversation shifted to a different topic as Aoi mentioned Speed Dueling

‘You do participate in Speed Duels… just not openly…As for my answer…’

“Denied; 1.) I have never Speed Dueled before; 2.) My Deck probably won’t hold up in Link Vrains; 3.) I can’t go against the Knights of Hanoi if I ever meet one in the Link Vrains” Yusaku was very adamant about not wanting to go to Link Vrains around other people, almost unnaturally so.

“Well, I’ll probably make a Non-Duelist Observer account for now…Maybe in the future, when Playmaker has taken care of Knights of Hanoi, I can enjoy Speed Dueling” He never needed to make an Observer account before now, but since he is in the Duel Club, he might as well make one to avoid suspicion.

Yusaku was quite… justified in his reasoning, she supposed. As much as she was in her own lie, really. It saddened her, a bit, to think that Hanoi had already ruined someone’s hopes of going into Vrains… No, that just wasn’t fair. 

“That’s true, but… in the future, you might be able to come to Vrains. We can work on your deck, and learn the rules for Speed Dueling here at the club.” Aoi covered her mouth in thought. “And as for Hanoi… well, we might just have to wait for Playmaker for that…”

She wasn’t going to give up. He seemed very adamant that he wouldn’t be able to ever duel in Vrains. Why learn to duel, if not to enjoy it with others?

“But for now, are you OK setting an account up? I can help you do it on my phone, if you’d like.” She took her phone out of her pocket. Even if she couldn’t help him get to Vrains, she thought maybe she would be able to at least help Yusaku watch the duels.

Yusaku was hoping that his analysis would end their conversation about him Entering Link Vrains. He wasn’t successful, but in exchange, he got to see a slight stubborn side of Aoi, when she took out her phone.

1...2...3 seconds passed before his reaction but eventually...

“...Alright, for now, Ill take you up on your offer... if you don’t mind...” He was honestly taken aback, but he made his observer account with her help for now.

His dummy deck’s reconstruction didn’t matter to him, neither did making an observer account in Vrains, but Aoi was sincerely trying to get him to duel in Link Vrains. If she wasn’t she wouldn’t have gone this far trying to help him.

‘She is an Idol after all’

“First, we should observe Speed Duels in order to learn the rules, then we can work on my deck to make it playable in Speed Duels as we will know what cards to use. It’s an efficient way I think.” The whole operation was meaningless to him, but he couldn’t decline it, so he might as well do it as quickly as possible to minimize the time Aoi will be wasting for his sake.

‘If I can get her to trust me, it would help me get info from Sol Tech’ was his reasoning in his own head for carrying on with this endeavor, although it was only 70% true.

Learning to feel the wind

“So I heard about this thing called Riding Duel, which is similar in feeling to Speed Dueling, hey banana head you seem to be a Riding Duelist as you own a bike. Would you care to teach me? I’ll teach you Speed Duels in return”

Yusaku Fujiki known as Playmaker in LINK VRAINS, tries out Speed Dueling for the first time, and is overwhelmed by the new experience. He found out about riding duel while surfing the VRAINS space as he landed upon an interesting new world where a Riding Duels are a popular type of Duels using bikes(D-Wheels) as Duel Disks. These duels have similar feeling to Speed Duels. As Yusaku wanted to relive his experience that day, he asked the first person he saw in this brand new world, who just happens to have a bike (D-Wheel) and weird hair like him.

“Its not a banana, It’s a fashion statement.” He couldn’t help but feel slightly offended by the other duelists comment about his hair, but it is immediately washed away after he offers to teach him about this new concept.

“What is a speed duel? Is it similar to a riding duel?”

“In it’s overall feeling it is…”

The boy in front of him was curious similar to him, but slightly louder.

“You duel using your D-Board while riding the Data Wind in the virtual world”

The riding aspect of Speed Duel was similar to Riding Duels but the Tool for riding was different.

“So how does your bike help you dueling?” The tool in front if him was significantly more imposing than his D-board “Don’t tell me you duel outside the virtual world?”

“A virtual world? I have not heard of such a thing” He looks confused at the elder male and gestures to the uniform, It seemed to fancy to be from around these part’s of the city.  “You aren’t from around here are you.. I’m assuming you are one of them rich kids from the tops”

“I was connected to this place through a virtual space called Link Vrains...”

A portal appeared in the virtual world that transported Yusaku to this Different Dimension, but he didn’t know that yet.

“You log in using your online ID to Link Vrains where you can duel... 

Wait a minute, you duel in real life using that bike?”

Although Duels in real life weren’t uncommon where he came from, Using that machine in real life seems dangerous.

Up until this point, everything that Aoi said in there conversation was according to what Yusaku expected… He always had her answers constructed in his mind before she could even utter them.

This time however, it was different and unexpected, not from the actual answers he got, he knew she would be lying about her account, which was expected, but the saddened tone in which she spoke those words brought forth a bigger picture.

There was a slight pause by Aoi before entering the Duel Club, Yusaku’s attention solely focused on her as always, but the way he saw her changed a bit.

“I see. Your brother seems like he works really hard.” he said, as he entered the Duel Club first on Aoi’s cue. He greeted President Hosoda, who was busy preparing for his lecture today. There was a realization that the topic was hurting Aoi, for reasons he does not know completely understand yet. His morality concluded however, that it’s better to not pursue his questions.

“Link Vrains IS a bit dangerous because of Knights of Hanoi and Speed Dueling… so your brother must really care about you.” His words were slightly sincere this time.

Aoi was grateful that Yusaku had stopped asking about Akira. She didn’t know if he’d noticed her expression slip, or not, but she was glad anyway. And he was still talking to her, so it wasn’t as if she’d messed up terribly, she supposed.

Hosoda hadn’t noticed her mood either, busying himself away with his lecture for today, and the others had yet to arrive, so it was just the two of them, sat where they were in the first week, but still talking.

She couldn’t really do much more than nod at his first statement. She didn’t really want to speak in case she said something she shouldn’t, and she was grateful he continued the conversation without her having to prompt it.

Aoi supposed Yusaku was right. She didn’t want to admit it, but she was a little scared of what was happening with Vrains right now. She was careful, but there was a certain risk with her being Blue Angel… even with Playmaker around to stop Hanoi. But she had to stop being lost in thought, and steer the conversation in a better direction.

“I’m sure that that’s why I’m not allowed.”  She rested her chin on her hand. “Regardless, Speed Duels do seem like fun, but I think I’ll be content to watch them, for now. How about you? Would you want to give it a try, once you’ve got your deck ready?”

“So, since your brother works at Sol Tech… you must have a Vrains account right?” The obvious answer was Blue Angel but how did she hide it? Additionally Yusaku asked his question hoping that by linking his question to her brother, he can inquire more about Sol Tech. from her. Naoki gave him a good start by mentioning her brother that day.

“Your brother must be very influential if he can provide everyone in the Duel Club with latest duel disks” They reached outside the Duel Club as Yusaku spoke his mind

He had his ears open for any important information he can gather at this time.

The lull in conversation had brought Yusaku onto another topic. It was to be expected that her connection to SOL and her brother would be brought up… after all, Naoki had already mentioned it. Of course Yusaku would be curious, but it still didn’t make it easier. It was a sore topic.

Well, she would just go with her usual excuse, at least she was prepared for that much. “My brother doesn’t want me to duel in Vrains, so I don’t have a proper account like that. I just have a non-duelist, observer account instead. It was the best compromise we could come to. And it’s a good arrangement, since it’s enough to let me participate in the club.”

She was stood in front of him by the time they reached the club room doors, so she didn’t think he’d see if her face fell into a frown, but she quickly fixed it back to her neutral expression to be safe. She was quite sure Yusaku wasn’t after a job at SOL like the others, but the possibility was enough to sour her mood a little. She opened the door and let him go first, and waved at Hosoda. “He is quite high up, I suppose. He’s the Security Manager, so I think he had to call a few favours to get the disks…”

‘I don’t think I could ask him to get more, if that’s what you were wondering.’ was left unspoken. She didn’t want to sabotage this conversation by getting angry.

‘I guess she is used to being asked about Blue Angel…. but this conversation…’ Immediately after answering his question and without missing a beat she changed the conversation with a rare smile… about Playmaker….

“Playmaker… seems like a dangerous fellow…It would be better for Naoki to not get involved with him… Moreover, his Cyberse-type deck seems to be unique, I doubt that it can be commercialized” Over-analyzing himself, he said, with his expression sharpening slightly.

Yusaku’s work was certainly dangerous, the Knights of Hanoi didn’t care about collateral damage, and he did not want people to get hurt because of him. Similarly, he himself wasn’t sure about his deck, He had lost any memories of acquiring it.

“Well, A theme focused on easy link summoning will be a good I think. Playmaker does the same thing right? Too bad I don’t have a deck like his.” His expression returned to normal immediately.

Yusaku made sense. She’d never seen Cyberse-type monsters before Playmaker had appeared, so maybe they weren’t going to be sold publically… she doubted SOL would want to paint Playmaker in a good image, when she thought about it. How silly of her…

She did notice, however, Yusaku’s expression steeling. Maybe he was annoyed that she’d compared the two, again…?

But, as quickly as the expression had appeared, it was gone… she couldn’t tell if she was imagining things. But anyway, she knew that she had better continue talking, so she didn’t look like she was overanalysing the situation.

“He does, and that’s quite a good deck to aim for, at the moment. It keeps your options open until you’d want to try something new.”

‘Of course… same Attribute and Type as she uses online’

“I see, Light/Fairy deck. True, I read that Light decks can be pretty powerful, and there are many cute monsters in Fairy-Type category” As the conversation went on about Duel Monsters, Yusaku felt more comfortable around her.

“Now that I think about it, the famous Blue Angel also uses the Trickstar Archetype, which is Light/Fairy-type… Her deck is really cute isn’t it?” Yusaku knew full well what he was asking. He wanted to see how She feels about about her online avatar.

Oh, thank goodness. She didn’t seem to have said anything strange, and Yusaku didn’t seem to think it was silly to like monsters for their power and appearance.

Aoi almost paused slightly at the mention of her Vrains ID, but she managed to carry on as normal, not showing visibly that the mention had bothered her at all. Of course Yusaku would ask about that… if he was part of the club, it was natural to assume he watched the Charisma duels, too.

Since they used the same archetype, Yusaku must have thought she was a fan of Blue Angel - that wasn’t a very big assumption to make.  Aoi knew she loved her Trickstars, but was it really OK to talk about Blue Angel like she was a fan? 

“It is quite a cute deck, I suppose. I like how the monsters are all themed similarly;” she started, staying neutral and talk about the monsters rather than the Duelist. “They really look like they could be idols on stage together.”

Deciding to try and move the conversation away from herself, she continued. “Though I must wonder, what kind of Deck do you want to play? Your current one isn’t very specialised.” She decided to try and make a small joke. “Don’t tell me you’re waiting for Playmaker-style cards to become widely available - you’d be just like Naoki.”

“No… I’m fine. Lets go to the club room” He bowed slightly in response.

They started to walk towards the club room, Yusaku being few steps behind Aoi.

The initial journey was silent. Yusaku tried to match her walking pace, but there were slight differences.

‘She is surprisingly nice for being the sister of someone like the SOL Tech. Security head Zaizen Akira’ He thought 

“Umm, What type of deck do you use?” He asked trying to start a conversation as they were walking together.

Aoi found the silence slightly awkward, and tried to slow her pace slightly. She didn’t realise she was a little bit of a fast walker, since she normally walked alone. She was struggling to think of a conversation topic, when Yusaku asked her. Thank goodness one of them had thought of something…

And she could be completely honest here. Having a spare deck helped, and everyone at the Club was familiar with it, so there was no chance she would be caught out.
