A/N: This is a request from the prompt list with numbers 40 and 26.this got way more angsty than I thought it would but I hope you like it!
Warnings: very mild drinking mention.
I shifted in my seat, attempting to get comfortable in the small theater chairs. The movie was about to start, and I was uncomfortably squeezed between Yanan and Shinwon. I loved them to death, but since they’re both so broad, they take up a lot of space. I thought that Wooseok was going to sit next to me, but he let everyone else into the aisle after I walked in, and somehow, I got stuck in the middle.
I looked down the aisle at him and raised my eyebrow and he just shrugged in response. We’ve been best friends since we were kids, but lately things have been weird between us.
Little touches and cuddles that we used to have don’t happen anymore, he stops texting me half way through the conversation and I don’t know why, and lately he will only go out and do stuff with me if we are with other Pentagon members. It’s so frustrating because I feel like I’m losing my best friend and I don’t know what is going on.
I turned my attention away from him and watched the movie, but my thoughts were swirling in my mind and it was making it hard to focus on the film.
We all went to dinner after the movie and the same thing happened. I went to sit next to Wooseok, only this time he made some kind of lame excuse and ended up trading seats with Yuto.
I sighed loudly and rolled my eyes.
“What’s wrong Y/N?” Yuto asked as he placed his arm around my shoulder.
“Nothing important.” I replied, casually shrugging him off of me. I looked down to the end of the table and noticed Wooseok staring at the interaction Yuto and I just had. He looked like something was bothering him, but when he made eye contact with me, he quickly looked down to his menu. I was getting very annoyed by this point and glared at him, which caught Hui’s attention.
Hui cleared his throat and looked at me, a confused look plastered on his face as if to ask me what was going on. I shook my head and looked down at my menu to decide what I was having.
Dinner went by without any incident, and we all headed back to the dorm to hang out. Kino and Hongseok decided they were going to play bartender and make us some drinks while we sat around and talked.
Drinks were flowing, and everyone was laughing and telling stories. I was listening attentively to the story E’Dawn was telling. Apparently one day, a few months ago, Yeo One was sleeping and Wooseok put a fake cockroach in his bed. When he woke up, he screamed at the top of his lungs, fell off the bed, and cried. Everyone thought it was the funniest thing, so they all started cracking up laughing.
I looked around the room and noticed that my best friend was missing.
“Hey where did Wooseok go?” I asked, scanning the room
“Oh, he went to his room about 20 minutes ago. I don’t know what’s gotten into him lately.” Jinho replied, shrugging his shoulders.
I don’t know why I let that get to me, but it did. Why didn’t he want to be around me? What the hell was going on? I was frustrated all over again, but this time I’m doing something about it.
I excused myself from the group and headed towards Wooseok’s room. I stopped and took a deep breath before knocking on the door.
“Come in” I heard from the other side of the door, so I opened it.
“Hey, can we talk?” I asked, standing in front of him.
He was sitting on the edge of his bed and nodded when I asked him. He patted his bed to gesture me to sit then moved to the far end giving us ample space.
“Why do you do that?” I groaned, annoyed at the situation.
“Do what?” He asked timidly. He was acting so strange around me and it was starting to worry me.
“That. Where you always make sure there’s a ton of space between us. You’re my best friend and we would always either hang on each other or sit next to each other or cuddle. What is going on? Something is different, and I can’t say that I like it.” I explained, letting my frustrations out.
He laughed at my questions and shook his head, which only made me more agitated.
“I’m glad you think this is funny, because I certainly don’t. I feel like I’m losing my best friend and you think it’s a big joke.” I scoffed, crossing my arms in front of me.
When Wooseok saw how hurt I really was, he stopped.
“Wow, you really don’t know, do you?” He asked, his demeanor softening a bit.
“Know what? All I know is that my best friend has been avoiding me for the last few weeks. What else is there to know?” I retorted as I uncrossed my arms and placed my hands in my lap.
Wooseok looked at the ground and rubbed his temples before continuing.
“I never stood a chance, did I?” He sighed before looking at me.
“Wooseok what are you talking abou-”
He placed a hand in front of him to stop me from speaking
“I saw you and Yuto earlier, the way he had his arm around you, and how close you were talking. I thought that would be me, but I guess that you didn’t love me the same way I loved you.” He shook his head and placed his hands on his knees, acting like he was going to stand.
I felt like my heart was in my throat. So many thoughts were going through my head at one time that I couldn’t think of what to say fast enough. All I could do is hold out my hands and stop Wooseok from getting up and leaving.
“Wait!” I practically yelled, “W-what?! You love me? Like, in l-love with me?” I managed to stutter out.
“I thought it was obvious. The only reason I was so awkward was because I knew you didn’t feel the same way.”
I don’t know why, but for some reason a wave of emotion took over me. How dare he assume that I didn’t love him back. How dare he not know that I was madly in love with him.
I stood up and paced the room for a moment before responding.
“You knew I didn’t feel the same way?! Damnit Wooseok, why wouldn’t you just ASK me?” I yelled in frustration. Tears were threatening in the corners of my eyes, but I tried to keep my composure.
“We have been best friends since we were in diapers. You should know me well enough by now to know that I don’t like Yuto that way. He’s another one of my really close friends, but I don’t feel that way about him. There’s only one person I’m in love with, and I’m looking right at him.” I said, staring him in the face.
A look of shock was plastered across Wooseok’s face as he was processing the information.
“You… You love me?” He asked softly, like he was having a hard time processing the information.
“Of course I do. I’ve been in love with you for a long time now, I just never admitted it.” I said sheepishly, looking down at my hands. “It was you the whole time.”
I waited for a moment to see what Wooseok would say, but instead he took one of my hands in his and with the other hand, he gently lifted my chin to get me to look at him.
My heart was racing as he tucked a hair behind my ear and ran a finger along my jawline.
“I love you too.” He said softly before he leaned in and kissed me gently. I quickly reciprocated, deepening the kiss a little, taking him by surprise. We broke the kiss after a few moments so we could catch our breath.
“Woah” He breathed, placing his forehead against mine. “That was better than I could’ve ever imagined”
I giggled softly as he interlaced his fingers with mine.
“What are we going to tell the boys? We’ve been in here for a while now. I’m honestly surprised they haven’t come knocking on the door.” I asked as I walked towards the door.
Suddenly we heard shuffling on the other side of Wooseok’s door and could hear the boys as they headed back towards the living room, obviously eavesdropping on our conversation.
“It sounds like they already know” Wooseok laughed before hugging me from behind. He kissed my temple and we stood there for a few moments before heading back out to the living room.
