yvonnerutherford: Sebastián Félix 6.02.26 (02.06.26-Félix)
🦋forever Queen ✨👑
He makes a face, as if the suggestion is horrifying to him. "Perish the thought." But really, it's more for Yvie's benefit—and maybe to throw her off the scent of a slightly reckless and definitely covert freedom he's just offered his brother-in-law, involving some impromptu and decidedly non-professional lessons on his new motorcycle.
'Please, I don't need a gun.'
"Ah, yes." the eldest brother bows his head, feigning solemnity. "All he needs is that one particular expression of yours that could freeze gin—I stand corrected." But the pretense of solemnity melts with a laugh, and half a beat later, he looks at her.
Really looks at her. "You gonna be okay?"
"Exactly. Because I married a smart man that I then proceeded to wrap around my little finger. It's the baby sister way." It was all she'd ever wanted from life, truly. To matter that much to another person And she was happy to report it was not a be careful what you wish for situation.
"I'll be fine. I'm going to spend all weekend trying to make it up to Óscar for turning his vacation into a work trip and then afterwards Fé and I are going to have a laugh about this whole situation." She smiled at Gideon. "Pregnancy hormones are stupid, that's all. I trust my husband."
"Many things can be said about that man, but not that he's a stupid one..." His eyes drop to the swell of Yvonne's middle, which is becoming increasingly difficult to hide, however talented the designer. "... Nor a suicidal one."
Still, he can't help but laugh at her bodyguard's suggestion—that they give her husband a ride on his date with another woman. "Awfully generous of you. And you'll be sitting in the backseat with a gun quietly pointed at Félix's skull? Or is it the lady's skull?"
Truth be told, he's kidding. He can't imagine Yvonne playing the part of green-eyed monster, but then, pregnancy hormones are anything but predictable.
"Also, have you tried saying no to Diana?? I'd have better luck getting a train to stop while standing on the tracks, waving my arms, saying if you please." He grunts. "... And trying to find dirt on the woman behind TWI is like asking for an early funeral." No. Although few in this room have known Diana more intimately than he has, he's quite certain she wouldn't spare his head the chopping block if he attempted to beat her at her own game.
"Careful, the more times you almost compliment my husband, the more I'm going to think you almost like him." Neither Félix nor Gideon would ever admit it out loud, but Yvonne could tell. Those two actually enjoyed each other now, as opposed to barely tolerating at best.
"Please, I don't need a gun," Yvonne scoffed. "In fact, I will be friendly and pleasant and I won't even glare." She didn't need to. Like Gideon said, Félix wasn't stupid or homicidal.
Fuck, she was ready to be done with pregnancy hormones.
"It's a good thing you're the oldest brother and you didn't go into politics."
Yvonne shoved him with a roll of her eyes. "Well, I was trying to avoid getting shit from Félix and guess correctly. He's been having a lot of fun of fun at my expense so I failed there." She crossed her arms and looked him over. "I was certain you were the the historic pub crawl. Consider me impressed. And extremely shocked. I thought you'd break out in hives at the very thought of Monaco."
"I suppose it was either Spain or Spain." He hums, noting that Olivia, one of the Italians with whom he'd crossed paths only briefly in the past, had won her husband's date.
"How does he feel about his Valentine? How do you feel?... Any plans to double-date?"
It's easier to think about that, than the minefield of a day he's set up for himself in Monaco, with a French Commandant. "I wish I was the historic pub crawl..." Gideon replies wistfully. "Have you seen Nora tipsy? That's free entertainment, right there."
"I mean, I don't love the idea of my husband spending Valentine's Day weekend with another husband, but I'm not seething with jealousy or fear that he's going to cheat on me." There was something about the other woman that reminded Yvonne of a moth drawn to a flame....or a hawk circling its prey, but Félix had the same look when they'd met. And Yvonne was not going to be one of those insecure women... out loud at least. "Óscar suggested we give them a ride, but we haven't finalized anything."
"Once or twice. Obviously not as much times as you," she teased. "I think there's a life lesson to be had here: say no to Diana. Or at least, get equally incriminating evidence on her."
Óscar gave a big smile to the woman he protected, "Mijita, of course we'll have fun. You're always a ray of sunshine. Perhaps we'll even drop your husband and his date off on our way to the casa."
"That includes relaxing and not being in work mode the entire time, you know." Would her words have any effect? She doubted it. But at least she could try to talk him into an actual break. "Might as well, considering the two of you were clearly sharing a brain while picking out your dates. Félix is being really annoying about it too."
@yvonne-rutherford
Théo: does it still count as a date if it's your bodyguard? Théo: enjoy yourself though
Yvonne: I'm trying to convince him that he's allowed to relax and enjoy himself. Yvonne: I don't think I'm succeeding.
"No, don't pretend. I am shocked." The eldest brother finally tears his eyes off the board to shoot her a look—in which she'll find that he's (mostly) teasing. "Spain, huh?... Since when do you play it safe? And what'll you choose next year??"
Grey eyes pop with pretend surprise. "... Your own backyard?"

"¡Ay, güey!" Óscar lamented softly, "I'm gonna need a proper vacation soon."
"Sorry, I know I'm clearly not who you were hoping for. But, you know you are allowed to have fun on this trip, right?"
He's still staring at the board, gears turning in his mind as he contemplates how bad this is on a scale of one to ten. The number keeps changing as he sees the other possibilities popping up for each date —some much kinder than his, some far, far worse.
Yvonne's voice flows into his ear, and he blindly but gratefully accepts his third glass of champagne in the span of five minutes. "Thanks." He replies, eyes still glued to the board. "How on earth did you get so lucky??"
"I'm going to pretend I'm not offended by your shock that I ended up with good results. Apparently my husband and bodyguard are on the same wavelength and I'm not going to complain about it." Yvonne reached out and patted Gideon's shoulder.
"Deep breaths. It could be a lot worse. Melissa could have won your date."
LOCATION — The Barbican Centre. DATE — Friday, February 13th, 2026. STARTER — OPEN for anyone.
Merde.
It's part of a very limited vocabulary he has in French, but the Rutherford has a feeling it's going to be a revolving word over the next twenty-four hours.
Only in his head, of course—he's not a complete animal.
Granted, it could be worse, he thinks, downing the remainder of his glass and reaching blindly for another on the champagne table to his left. But it could've also been much, much better. He's suddenly grateful he resisted Diana's attempts to wheedle him into a date involving a multi-day trip abroad.
Twenty four hours with a French Commandant... He can do this. He has no other choice.
Sure, Yvonne was disappointed she guessed wrong on her own date, but truth be told, she lucked out. Especially compared to her siblings. And though she couldn't drink at the moment, Gideon really looked like he could use more alcohol.
She grabbed a champagne flute, ignoring the concerned look around her while muttering it's for my brother, and pushed her way through the crowd to Gideon. "Good luck. I think you're going to need it."
"I was being supportive, there's a difference." Adriana shuddered, seemed like whatever Gideon had, had caught onto her, too. "Monaco. It really feels like a bit of me, and I'd be glad to get away from here for a few days. I don't even think it's a surprise." She grinned. "Why Spain?"
"That is pretty much what I expected from you. I'm guessing you're going after both dates and making the men fight over you?" Yvonne grinned back. "It seemed like what Félix would put. I would absolutely love to go on a date with my husband on TWI's dime, are you kidding me?"
"Aaaah.. Shh!" Adriana shook her head violently. "This is not an invitation for baby talk. We're at a Valentine's Day auction, Yvonne. This is the day that is arguably probably most active in sexual activities. Please do not jinx me pregnant with that talk." She didn't believe it, but Adriana did believe in precaution.
"I believe you were the one who brought up diapers and sleepless nights. But fine, no more baby talk. I'll try to keep my pregnant cooties far, far away from you." Yvonne laughed and held her hands up in surrender. "What date do you have your eye on? I have some guesses, but I want to see if I'm right."
"You've got your knickers on, you're still fine." She waved her friend off. Yvonne was an Olympian at this point with pregnancies. "Coffee? Why? Make like 5 cups? In the day? I did have a few shots at home, too." Also, she wouldn't have put past Laurent slipping something in her drinks because she was a little on edge. Not in a bad way, but the kind of adrenaline rush didn't compare to the ones you get from jumping out of a plane. "I'm not paranoid, I'm being creative! There's a difference. It's just one of those days where my brain is going at 500 miles per hour." Yet, she still nodded to her words. "See? Of course they would!"
Leyla really was fine, there was nothing wrong, nor did she think anything was going to happen. "I think I just really hate not being in control." She admitted.
"Really? You don't say?" Yvonne grabbed Leyla's hands and situated herself in front of her friend. "Come on, breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Slowly." She breathed in and out, her eyes fixed solely on the movement of Leyla's chest. "It's going to be okay. You're going to have a fun trip no matter what, and at worse Laurent is going to tease you a little about guessing wrong, but he's not going to mean it. Everything is going to be fine."
"Good. Also, even though it's already up and running, I will be hosting an opening party. Just so you know." Even though she never needed an excuse to throw a party, this one seemed too hard to pass up. "Well, I hope you enjoy changing diapers and sleepless nights, hopefully for the last time then." She raised her own glass and cheered her sister, taking a sip. "Here's to you and your family, lil sis. I'm happy as long as you're happy."
"I will be sure to pencil that in. I know how you never miss a chance for a party." Yvonne cheers Adriana in return for a smile. "Thank you. It's going to be a lot, but I'm excited. Poor Isabel doesn't really understand what a baby brother is yet." That was going to be an experience, Yvonne was sure. "I hope you're happy with your life too."
@laurent--stpierre
"I think your fiancée's on the verge of a mental breakdown. Just so you're aware."
"Well, if it's good for you, then it's good for me." Adriana was way past complaining about the way her little sister was choosing to live her life. Besides, Félix wasn't so bad. He made her happy, and she seemed to have really grown into herself. "I'm just glad I'll get to toast with you again, that's all. You'll come to my gallery, right?"
"Of course I will. I wouldn't miss it for anything." Yvonne reached out and squeezed Adriana's hand. "We'll have that toast after your nephew comes, I promise. The end is in sight." The fact that no matter how rocky things got between the two of them, that they always found their way back to being sisters was a miracle Yvonne did not take for granted.
