This is my final character design sheet.
Walter is a water bottle (empty water bottle). He tries his best to stay positive. He worries a lot. He cares more about others then himself. He is the person you can talk to when your down. He often drifts off when he is alone.
This is my final animatic.
Frames from storyboard.
Edit using after effects.
These are my final storyboards.
Drawn each frames in illustrator then moved them to a storyboard in photoshop.
Howls Moving Castle
I will be writing my essay about 2 chosen characters in Howl’s Moving Castle. Howl’s moving Castle is based on a book by Diana Wynne Jones. I was going to compare the differences between the book and film. As i haven’t read the book it will be a difficult essay to write.
Howl
Howl is one of the main character’s in Howl’s Moving Castle. He is a mysterious man. He builds a love relationship during the film with the other main character called Sophie. Howl can transform to bird with his magic powers. He uses it to end the war and also keep Sophie safe. He wants to protect her because he has fallen in love with her and she is the one who can save her in the end of the film.
Transform to a bird or another person.
Claws on bird transformation indicates he could be dangerous.
Calcifer
Is a fire demon who is bound to Howl when they were young. Calcifer was a week falling star. Howl caught him and they made a pact. He swallowed Calcifer, which gives him his heart and powers. For taking his heart Howl puts him to work, moving the castle and boiling hot water for him.
Appearance:
Fire shape, could be dangerous
Colour red, could be evi. Has a bit of orange as well, which makes him innocent.
Round eyes shows innocents.
Research on pre-production
Beauty and the beast
This film is famous for their uses of anthropomorphism. Most of their character are object around the house. This have inspired me to look around my own house. I really enjoy looking at different objects in this film. Each object is different. They have different personality, looks and even jobs.
Rolie Polie Olie
Is another animated film that inspired me to work with an object. This have helped me develop my dynamic animation. I looked into how they move and walk. Many object’s movement are very simple and clean. They are very like able since they have their own personality, their facial features gives it away a little.
The Lamp from Pixar.
This has help me develop my character design. This has also inspired me on my dynamic project. It have thought me that animation can be simple. This have help me open up my idea on creating my character design. This thought me any object can become a character. I just have to believe and expand my creativity.

Review with Lynsey White.
We review on our chosen character for character essay. I’ve created a idea web, listing the characters I want to work with. I wanted to compare either Howl and Sophie from Howl’s Moving Castle. I wanted to compare them between the movie and book. While discussing with Lynsey it would be a difficult task since I haven’t read the book yet. I was suggested to read it in two days, i would happy to read it but i’m not a fast reader. Haku and Chihiro (Spirited Away) was the other characters I wanted to compare Howl and Sophie with but there isn’t much to compare. I could talk about the art style but there isn’t much to talk about.
What I aim to do next:
I could talk about the relationship between Sophie and Howl. I would like to talk about hoe supportive they are and they both are shape shifters. (What makes them Love each other ? )
My other plan was to talk about the shapeshifters in Howl’s Moving Castle. I aim to compare Howl and Calcifer. I would like to talk about anthropomorphism as well.

Review with Robin Fuller about Dynamics Animation.
We discussed about our chosen context for our dynamics animation. I’ve chosen speed and acceleration for this project. I’ve start working on Adobe Flash for my dynamics. I started with the main points of the running cycle. I was told that the running wasn’t fast enough and it needed to be less robotic. I was also told to start with the walk cycle and then work towards the running cycle. If I had more time I would like to add impact and reaction. By the end of this animation it should show it walking, runing then falling over.

Anthropomorphism and Animation
6th October 2015
Anthropomorphism heads back during the cave paintings.
Narrative compression- looks like something well known. Paredolia/Apophenia- an object which looks like a person or animal.
Many early animation uses anthropomorphism. Lottery Reiniger is one of the famous animation silhouettes.
Many slapticks animation/ cartoon also uses anthropomorphism. Tom and Jerry are well known anthropomorphism cartoon.
There are many different style, culture and countries that uses anthropomorphism. Etc. Japan The loveable creature name totoro is a famous anthropomorphic character.
This is my walk cycle. Drawn it on F12 paper and film it on dragon frame.
Dynamic Animation is a way to use different forces to create a more believable character. We looked at some key principles of animation, which can help us on our dynamic animation.
Exaggeration
Observation
Gravity
Weight and Effort
Speed and Acceleration
Stretch and Squash
Impact and Reaction
First dynamic animation experiment:
(speed and acceleration)
I started planning it out on my note book.
I ended up not following the drawing.

One to one with Peter Martin
We discussed what I needed in my blog. Sketchbook work, research, ideas and recent work are suggested to put in the blog.
We also discussed about my character. Since my character is a water bottle like I wasn’t sure how I would show each sides. I was also told to draw different angles of my character.
What I aim to do next:
Adding more drawings in blog.
Develop my character.

Review with Helen Schroeder
We review in groups and review about character, storyboard and animatic.
I made a mistake of moving the camera instead of the character it self in the animatic. It made the animatic looked weird and the camera was moving everywhere. I was suggested that having each drawing on different layers so I can move them easily. I was also suggested to add more emotion and reaction to it to make it more understandable.
For the storyboard, on the first frame i need to show a hand holding the bottle or else it would look as it would be floating on it’s own. I would also need to add the direction of the camera is going.
On the animatic and the storyboards I need to add more details and more backgrounds to them. I would also need to include a floor plan.
What I am to do next:
Redrawing storyboard and animatic (to show the journey), adding details and backgrounds to them. Create a floor plan, showing each angle of the environment.
I would also need to think about how would the bottle wold fall, will it fall back or forward. How will it fall ??
Current storyboard:
