Zac: Plot twist: I miss you.
jfchudgens:
You’re telling me that I dated a man that chooses How I Met Your Mother over Friends? It’s a good thing it didn’t work out with us.
Really? Out of all the things you could be ashamed of me for, it’s because I picked HIMYM over FRIENDS? Damn, Ness, you need to get your priorities worked out.
fckfranco:
I’ve never really found any of those sort of sitcoms funny, but Friends was always my go-to when there was nothing better on during the daytime and I wanted to see Jennifer Aniston’s face. No other reason, really.
I feel all of that on a personal level. If you ever film a movie with her, then you better text me so I can come crash the set and slowly sweep her off her feet. We’ll invite you to the wedding.

jfchudgens:
This entire evening had been unexpected. Vanessa had thought she would just stop by one of her favorite restaurants and order the meal she had been craving. Never in her wildest dreams did she think she would run into Zac and have this kind of reunion. Especially not one that involved spilling all of these feelings. As a matter of fact, was she sure she wasn’t dreaming? That explanation would make far more sense than her current reality. “I didn’t think you would be expecting that answer,” the woman said with a small giggle. His next statement however, was something she definitely had not been expecting either. “I think after six years of dating you, I know exactly how to play my cards.” A flirtatious wink followed her words, before turning back down to the last of her pasta dish.
Before she knew it, the two of them were scraping the bottoms of the plates, which meant their reunion was coming closer to the end. The waiter returned once more to check up on them, before bringing their checks. It felt selfish of Vanessa, but she didn’t want this night to end. She wanted to stay close to Zac and spend more time catching up and talking about the days where it was just the two of them against the rest of the world. “Is it bad that I don’t want this to end?” she confessed, deciding to follow the theme of the evening and be open with her thoughts. “If you want, you’re welcome to come back to my place. But if not, that’s totally fine too. No big deal.”
Zac wasn’t a big believer in fate. He strongly believed that things happened because people made them happen, not because some strange force did. The nights events had him rethinking his stance, though. Maybe fate really was a thing. Maybe it was the reason why he and his ex-girlfriend had ended up at the same restaurant at the same time. Maybe that’s why Vanessa had accepted his invitation to dinner. Maybe, maybe, maybe. Glancing up as the woman finally spoke, Zac arched a brow and watched her for a moment. Six years of dating had surely taught Vanessa how to play her cards, but he wasn’t going to admit that she was right. Not yet, anyways. “We’ll see about that.” He winked, going back to his food.
Thanking the waiter as he returned with the cheques, Zac placed enough money on the table to cover both their dinners and tip. Folding his jacket over his arm, the man rose from the table, not entirely sure what to do next. Heading home was the obvious answer, but he didn’t know if he was ready. Luckily, Vanessa spoke up and saved his ass. “I don’t want it to end, either...” He admitted, frowning slightly. “I would love to come over, though. I’ll just take an Uber home later on.” His chest felt warm as he led Vanessa out of the restaurant and onto the street. “Should we walk there?”
cara-wantsthed:
How I Met Your Mother is definitely the superior show, and I will argue that until the death. I have seen every season at least 10 times. Friends, on the other hand, not so much. It’s not as good to me. I can relate to Rachel as well as I can to Robin, you know?
If you ask me, Robin is much cooler than Rachel. I mean, look at all that cool shit her father made her do while growing up in Canada. Plus, the whole Robin Sparkles thing. Nothing Rachel ever did could top that. Glad to see you’re on the HIMYM team, though. It seems to be just us.
ambslheard:
How lame am I if I say I’ve never seen either? I don’t watch a lot of television, so while I’ve seen clips, I don’t think I’ve watched a single episode of either of them from beginning to end, so I can’t really comment on the quality of either. I will say that I’d take Neil Patrick Harris over just about anyone, so I guess I’m on your side?
Not lame at all considering that I’ve only seen one out of two. Although, if you ever do decide to get into one of them, then I highly suggest watching HIMYM. Hold on. You’d pick Neil Patrick Harris over Jennifer Aniston?
Confession: I could never get into FRIENDS. I tried so hard to get into it, but couldn’t bring myself to watch more than three episodes. It’s just so... blah. What’s so great about it? The only appealing thing I’ve heard about it is that Danny DeVito plays a stripper at one point. Other than that, I’m out. You can all keep your lobster inside jokes, but I’ll be in my corner watching the better show -- How I Met Your Mother. Fight me.

Vanessa held her breath as she awaited a reply from Zac. Had she been too open? Spilled too much of her guts to him? Her eyes glanced around the room, mapping out the nearest exit strategy if she needed to duck out and make a quick exit to save herself any further embarrassment in front of her ex. “I–I’m sorry. Maybe I shouldn’t have blurted that out.” She could feel her cheeks heat up a light shade of pink from the blood pumping heavily through her veins. That was until Zac spoke again. She wasn’t sure if he had heard him right at first. Did he really just say that he wanted to kiss her? Surely she had to be imagining things at this point. It all seemed too crazy to be real and actually happening. But based off of Zac’s facial expression, she knew he was serious and had actually meant what he had said. It was hard for her to resist him anymore and pretend it wasn’t exactly what she wanted to do as well. “No. That’s not bad at all. Because all I’ve been thinking about is how badly I want to to be in your arms and be able to kiss you again.” But no matter how badly they wanted to go through with the act, now wasn’t the time. The risk of getting caught by a fan or pesky photographer was too high in a public location.
There was going to be a lot of conflicted feelings once the world learned that Zac and Vanessa were talking again. Most would probably be happy that their beloved ‘Zanessa’ was back to speaking, but there would also be some that saw it as a step back for both of them. Zac didn’t care, though. He didn’t care what anyone else thought. During their years apart, the man had learned to brush off the paparazzi and the media, constantly reminding himself to take it all with a grain of salt. Sure, there were moments, like now, where he feared being caught and having rumors leaked about him, but he was sure anyone else in his position would be as well. The paparazzi had the power the ruin their reunion before it even started. “I... wasn’t expecting that answer.” Zac admitted, always so surprised by Vanessa and her reaction to things. Then, just to kill the seriousness and add some comedy, “Play your cards right and I might just grant that little wish of yours after dinner.”

During my drive back to my hotel i was letting YouTube kinda do it thing and i came across this guy, Da Tooby? Have you heard of this gem of a man? His songs are so addictive, there is no way i’m not having a full on jam sesh to him all night. I apologize to the rooms on the same floor as me in advance.
Never heard of him, but if he’s as good as you say, then your neighbors should be thankful that you’re blasting his music. Much better than... Bieber, or someone else equally as crappy.

Vanessa only wished she could have done something for Zac while he was struggling. She couldn’t even imagine the things he had gone through. After all, the only details she knew were from tabloids and word of mouth around town. Neither source could be trusted easily for obvious reasons. She couldn’t help but wonder if she could have put a stop to it before it had really started or flared up. She was just thankful that he was sitting across from her and still alive and healthy. She could tell by his response that it was something he didn’t feel like discussing over dinner. She understood. It was the first time they had seen one another in years. It wasn’t exactly the best time to unleash the details to such a heavy topic quite yet. If he wanted to tell her one day, she would happily listen for as long as he felt comfortable. A mall smile tugged on the corners of Vanessa’s lips. It was nice hearing that Zac still wanted to be there for her regardless and that she wasn’t alone in that feeling. Even after all of the years without communicating, she knew that she would never be too busy to pick up the phone when he called. It took the brunette a small moment to pause and collect her thoughts. Part of her wasn’t sure if she had heard him right in the fact that he would always miss them being together. It just seemed too surreal to hear after bumping into one another for the first time in over half of a decade. “I’m always going to miss being with you too, Zac.” Part of Vanessa wanted to hold back her feelings and keep the part about comparing all of her past boyfriends to him. But since they were being honest, she decided to let it all out. “You know, every guy I’ve dated, I’ve compared to you. And no one seems to be able to live up to those expectations. I don’t think anyone ever will either.”
Zac swore his heart jumped into his throat as Vanessa spoke, practically voicing every thought had been dealing with over the last few years. They could move on, see other people, start new projects, but she would always hold a special place in his heart. -- And much like her, Zac would always find himself comparing his future girlfriends to Vanessa. He would compare their dishwater brown hair to hers, he would compare how their laughs were deep and husky while Vanessa’s were high-pitched and soft. In the end, nobody would ever be good enough. Nobody would ever be her. Clearing his throat, Zac took a small sip of his drink in hopes of finding time to calm himself down. He wanted nothing more than to lean over and kiss Vanessa, but knew that the risk of having someone snap a photo of them was too risky. The last thing he wanted was to wake up to TMZ blowing the internet up with rumors. “That’s, uhm...” What was he supposed to say? How could he properly express his feelings. “That’s.... --- a lot to take in.” And then, “Is it bad that this little confession hour is really making me want to kiss you?”
don’t open, dead inside. || zac & billie
billiethelourd:
Billie had been expecting his answer before it even left his lips, but that didn’t stop her from playfully rolling her eyes at it. “Yeah well, ditto. It’s going to bring me a lot of satisfaction leaving you behind.” She remarked, pretty confident in herself that she was going to do well. “Once I survive the apocalypse, I’m going to have to survive the angry mob of girls who come for me when they find out I’m the one responsible for Zac Efron’s death, but - bring it on.” It was easy to talk big when you were strapped up in protective gear and were clutching a mock gun, but when the alarm rang through her ears, Billie’s heart reacted suddenly. Thankfully, she didn’t let out a screech like the other females in the room, but that didn’t mean that it hadn’t got her blood pumping.
Being slower than Zac to react was a pretty big slap in the face after all of her trash talk, and she raised an eyebrow at him as he shot down their first zombie. “You’ve done this before, haven’t you?” She questioned, finding keeping herself talking was helping to keep the nerves at bay. Still, she pushed onward, wanting to redeem herself for her slow reflexes the first time, yet she kept a safe distance to Zac, seeking protection from the male though she’d never say it out loud. The hallway was so dark and her senses so alert to every detail of the grimy walls and appliances that she had no idea if any of the group behind them was branching off or in close proximity, yet it was hard to pay much mind to the other participants when she knew of the inevitability of more zombies lurking.
Zac placed a hand over his heart, mouth falling open in faux hurt as Billie revealed that she would also leave him to become zombie chow. Although, considering that he had been the first to admit that he’d leave his partner behind, he probably didn’t have a right. “I’ll just pull a Morgan and show up years later to judge you on your life choices.” He’d come equipped with a stick and everything. Conversation on hold for the time being, Zac continued to walk down the hallway, gun gripped tightly in his hands. He couldn’t help but to wonder if any of the workers had ever been pistol-whipped on accident. Considering how they liked to jump out at people and growl at them, it didn’t seem too unlikely.
Reaching the end of the hallways where two doors with circle windows stood, Zac glanced inside, practically dying once he realized it was set up to look like a doctors lab. Seriously, labs and zombie themes never went well. Hadn’t anyone ever watched World War Z? Or, you know, practically any other zombie-themed piece of media? “Looks like there’s someone in there.” Zac informed Billie, moving so that she could also peer inside of the room. Admittedly, he was a little nervous to enter the place, not wanting anyone to jump out at him from behind the door. “Also, guess what? I’ve decided you can go first.” And with that, he pushed the door open with one hand, using the other to give Billie a little nudge forward.

“Doing good? I was trying to keep it together, Zac. It killed me every day that we had to split up.” Vanessa tried to keep herself busy. High School Musical had just ended and she was determined to build her career up to get her name out there more. It just so happened to be around the same time as their breakup and she also used the new roles to keep her mind busy. She really only found herself in two actual relationships since then. Josh had been more of a casual fling. They were mainly just two friends having fun together who decided to put a label on their relationship. And Austin had lasted a bit longer and had become more serious. But in the end, they weren’t right for one another. No one compared to Zac in her eyes. It was hard to stop those comparisons. But he had been her first love and nothing could top that for her. His words shocked her. She knew he had struggled a lot over the years. Especially when it came to his drug addiction. As a matter of fact, all she had wanted to do was to reach out and somehow help him with it all. But she knew that it wasn’t her place. Especially since she felt as if he were trying to avoid her in the first place. “Zac, I would never reject your presence. No matter how mad or upset I was with you, which I wasn’t anyway.” Vanessa reached her hand across the table, grabbing onto his gently to show him that her words were genuine. “No matter how messy you think you get, I’d never turn my back on you. You were the first boy I ever fell in love with. That love for you is always going to be there. Which means that I’m always going to be there for you. Whenever you need me. Promise.”
Drugs were something that Zac was going to struggle with for the rest of his life. No matter how many years he went clean or how many times he resisted the urge to return to his old lifestyle, he was still going to struggle. It was hard, he wasn’t going to lie about that part, but something about what Vanessa said had him feeling convinced that he’d be okay. It was kind of hilarious, really. Countless fans, friends, doctors, therapists, and addiction councilors had told him the exact same thing, but he had brushed them off and written their sympathy off as nothing. It was pathetic. He was pathetic. Running his thumb across the back of Vanessa’s hand out of habit, all Zac could get out was a small ‘thanks’. He trusted her and loved her, but he felt bad talking about his messy lifestyle at dinner for some reason or another. “You know the same applies to you, right? I’m always here for you. It doesn’t matter what time it is or where I am --- if you need me, then I’ll be there.” Because, honestly, he would drop everything for her. Work, friends, practically everything else in the world; if Vanessa called, Zac would answer. “The love thing, too. I’m going to spend the rest of my life missing us being together, but I know holding onto what we had will make it easier.” He could never let her go, but he had learned to be okay with it.

New York weather needs to make up it’s mind. Are you going to be hot or fucking freezing? Just make up your mind because I’m of the mind to just go back to LA. It has to be warmer there.
Canada is being the exact same way. We had both sun and snow in the same day. You really should return to LA, though. NY sucks.

jfchudgens:
Vanessa couldn’t control the widening smile on her face from his words. She knew they were genuine and it was a relief to know he felt the same way. After their breakup, the two of them hadn’t really even tried a friendship. Vanessa knew it would be awkward while feelings were still heavily lingering and it seemed more painful than anything in the moment. But over the years, Vanessa often began to wonder if Zac was avoiding her all together. There came a time when Vanessa wondered if Zac would be appearing at events she was on her way to. She hoped to somehow cross paths with him and get the chance to hug him and ask him what he’s been up to. But that moment never seemed to come. At first it seemed normal. Maybe he was scared of the idea of what would happen. But as the years went on, it seemed more and more obvious to Vanessa that he was avoiding her. Especially when it came time to film the HSM reunion. That was the one event that Vanessa was looking forward to. She thought the two of them would be able to spend some time together to appreciate the movie franchise that started their friendship to begin with. It was a little bit of a surprise knowing that Zac was actually grateful to run into her and spend this personal time together. Vanessa’s eyebrows furrowed as he mentioned working up the courage to see her again. “Working up the courage? What do you mean?” She understood nerves were most likely present for him. But after all they had been through, she never thought he would have to work up the courage to speak to her again. “It’s not weird. I just don’t quite understand why you had to work up the courage to talk to me. I started to get the feeling that you were avoiding me and didn’t want to see me.”
Shoving a fork-full of pasta into his mouth, Zac found himself all too aware of just how serious their conversation was getting. He was sharing things with Vanessa that he had once vowed he’d never speak out loud. Was it silly to be so stressed out about sharing his feelings, though? Maybe this little confession hours of theirs would bring them both some closure. “I mean... you seemed to be doing so good after our split.” They had both eventually moved on to new movies and new people. There had been the fair share of tragedies and hard times --- Zac’s cocaine addiction and Vanessa’s father passing, but they both had pulled through. “Fast forward a few years and you were starring in crazy good movies and doing all of this charity work, then people looked at me and I was nothing but a drug addicted idiot that was getting into fights with homeless people, breaking bones, and dating girls for a week or two only to break their hearts and move onto the next one. I was a mess. The courage was needed because I was afraid that you’d reject my presence or something, which is something that I wouldn’t have been able to handle.” Good terms or not, it wasn’t something that Zac wanted to drag Vanessa into. He still didn’t want to in some ways, but life was all about taking chances. “Lame, right?”
