cleansing & charging items ✨️
many of the methods used to cleanse items can also be used to charge them depending on your intentions.
cleansing & charging ideas:
visualization - imagine a ball of energy forming around the item to either cleanse it or give it power (the color of the ball could correspond to your intent, i.e. white or blue for cleansing, red for power, etc.)
earth - bury the object in soil or sand - a potted plant will also work
water - submerge the item in running water
salt water - anoint or submerge the item in a salt water solution
gem water - anoint or submerge the item in a corresponding crystal elixir
herbal & floral water - anoint or submerge the item in a solution of corresponding herbs or flowers
sea salt - sprinkle sea salt over/around the item or submerge it in a container of sea salt
essential & infused oils - anoint item with corresponding oil
smoke - pass the item through incense smoke
fire - pass the item through an open flame or burn it (you could see the act of burning as either cleansing or charging)
storms -leave item outside during a thunderstorm; anoint with storm water
wind -leave item outside when it’s windy; make use of windchimes
crystals/crystal grid - surround the item with crystals of corresponding intent (can be arranged in a pattern to form a crystal grid and enhance energy)
dried/fresh herbs & flowers - sprinkle mixture over/around item or submerge the item in a mixture of herbs and/or flower petals
sound - use a bell, whistle, or something similar to clear the space and associated items of negativity
sigils - craft and use sigils that correspond with your intent (you can set the item on top of the sigil, draw the sigil on the item, etc.)
moonlight & starlight - leave item in the path of these natural lights, either outside or in a windowsill overnight
sunlight - leave item in the path of sunlight for a few hours during the day (before sunset, of course), either outside or in a windowsill
divination - pair the item with a rune or tarot/oracle card that matches your intent in a small container
incantations - create an incantation that states your intent and speak it aloud while holding the item
physical energy - engage in physical activity of some sort (exercise, dancing, etc.) and direct that energy into the item
actual cleaning - physically and literally clean any items with an appropriate solution (soap, alcohol, etc.); the energy put into cleaning can also be used to charge the item
caution: some items, especially crystals, are not suitable for exposure to sunlight, water, or salt.

✖ spell & curse breaking ✖
methods for negating spells you have cast:
destroy the physical representation of the spell i.e. if your spell was contained within a jar, break the jar and dispose of the pieces
disassemble the spell and cleanse each component individually
place item in a bath of sea salt and dried herbs that are associated with cleansing and banishing - leave overnight and disassemble the spell when finished
cleanse the item with moon or rain water and disassemble if applicable
place the item in a black box to negate its effects
bury the item for 3 days, retrieve it, then dispose of it
bury the item on the night of the full moon and retrieve it at the next new moon
create a sigil or written incantation with the intent of breaking the spell and place the item on top of the paper - leave in place overnight
create a written incantation that includes the details of the spell - bury, burn, drown, rip apart, or throw it away
light a black candle that is surrounded by sea salt while focusing on the intent of negating the spell - recite an incantation if you wish, and allow the candle to burn down; sweep the sea salt out your back door
breaking spells others have cast upon you and protecting yourself:
perform a “return to sender” spell - find a black taper candle; turn it upside down; cut the tip off and leave the wick in place; carve “return to sender” and the target’s name (or a description of them) into the candle; light the candle upside down and let it burn down completely
leave a witch bottle outside of your home - it should contain items like: pins, needles, broken glass (to shred their negative intentions towards you); your name and the names of those who may be affected by this negative energy plus an incantation for protection (e.g. your loved ones, pets, anyone who lives in your home); and lemon juice, lime juice, or sea salt (to purify their negative energy so that it may not get to you)
create a mixture of charcoal, chili powder, and garlic powder - sprinkle around the perimeter of your home to stop a spell in its tracks
alternately, you may combine these ingredients, add to a hollow pendant, and wear on your person to protect you from the effects of a spell
if you know the details of the spell that has been placed on you, write them down on paper; while focusing on breaking the spell, hold the paper in your hand, and then rip it to shreds; throw the pieces in the trash, or bury in your backyard
if you don’t know the exact details, write down the effects you have been feeling if you think they have been caused by a spell or malintent directed at you; follow the steps above
submerge yourself in a bath of sea salt and light frankincense incense - place the incense on the edge of the tub or somewhere safe in your bathroom - to cleanse yourself of any negative energy that has been directed at you
place an energetic shield over yourself or your home that is designed to negate negative energy
tips:
close all loopholes
when crafting a spell, remember to create a fail safe (e.g. “this spell will be broken if X occurs”)
add timed conditions to your spells (e.g. “this spell will be broken on the night of the next full moon” and include a specific date)
be specific when describing the target that will be affected by the spell (whether it’s you or someone else, be sure to include taglocks whether it be their name written or spoken aloud, DNA such as hair, fingernail clippings, etc., or a photo of the target)
use ingredients, supplies, and tools that match your intent
employ a method of protection before casting spells, whether the intent is malefic or not
cleanse your space and tools before and after performing a spell to “wipe the slate clean”

catalysts in witchcraft
a catalyst by definition is: a substance that enables a chemical reaction to proceed at a usually faster rate or under different conditions (as at a lower temperature) than otherwise possible.
in spellwork, a catalyst (by my own definition) is something you can use to amplify a spell or ritual and has the potential to manifest results quicker than you would have without a catalyst.
based on my research, all of the correspondences below are associated with either manifestation, energy/power, success; or, some or all of the above.

crystals: amazonite, aventurine, carnelian, cinnabar, citrine, garnet, goldstone, herkimer diamond, honey calcite, lapis lazuli, pyrite, quartz, red jasper, sunstone, tiger's eye, yellow jasper

illusions and distortion in witchcraft
an illusion is defined as something that is likely to be wrongly perceived or interpreted, or something that distorts your perception.
distortion involves altering the natural or original state, shape, or condition of an object or giving a misleading impression of such.
illusions can affect all of the 5 senses - seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and feeling.
illusion vs glamour vs shield
i feel like the terms can be synonymous depending on your desired outcome but, this is how i break it down:
illusions: creating things that don’t exist; what you perceive and what you want others to see
glamours: altering what already exists; how you perceive and how you want others to see things
shields: a combination of both but commonly used for protective workings
when to use an illusion spell
when you want to alter, manipulate, or distort the perception of reality.
invisibility (masking yourself or your energy)
distorting one’s appearance or the appearance of other objects
confusion
distraction
disorientation
persuasion
how to cast an illusion spell
however you want, although i’m partial to raising energy in whatever method i choose, directing it into a thing, and then using said thing to activate the spell whenever i want.
correspondences & ideas for illusions
herbs:
anything psychotropic or hallucinogenic in nature - think chamomile, cannabis, datura, wormwood, mugwort, damiana, gingko, nutmeg, salvia, valerian, poppies, coffee, tea, etc.
OR whatever corresponds to your specific intent
crystals:
agate (confusion)
alexandrite (delusions)
amethyst (delusions)
celestite (detachment)
diamond (confusion, disorientation)
kunzite (distraction)
moldavite (delusions)
obsidian (conflict within others)
etc.
not to mention, crystals have refractive properties, too! you can use that idea for distortion. (check out my a-z crystal list and curse correspondences for some more ideas)
cosmic:
moon - emotions, imagination, and the unconscious mind
neptune and pluto - illusions and metamorphosis
dark matter and black holes - invisibility and darkness
elements: if you consider the example of “driving down the road and thinking you see a puddle of water up ahead but then it just disappears when you get close to it,” mirages could technically incorporate all of the elements:
earth is the foundation for the mirage, or the road you’re driving down
fire provides heat
air is heated by the road
the actual mirage appears as water
and! when water turns to ice, it can create optical illusions like parhelia (sun dogs), sun haloes, and light pillars because of its interaction with sunlight.
plus lots of other cool stuff so use your imagination and good luck!

potions vs charged waters
updated version
i most often see the word “potion” used as a blanket term for any liquid mixture that you enchant with magic, but it's a tiny bit deeper than that.
✦ potions
a potion is broadly defined as a mixture of liquids with magical, healing, or poisonous properties [source] and is meant to be ingested - essentially, a potion is a liquid spell you're supposed to drink in order to feel the effects of said spell. in fact, the word "potion" is derived from the middle english pocioun, from anglo-french poisun, pocioun (drink, potion,) from Latin potion-, potio, from potare (to drink) [source].
you can essentially enchant any beverage to be a potion, and create your own potions using edible ingredients. wanna make a strawberry banana smoothie with the intent of having a super good day? bam, potion.
but, please keep in mind that even if something is edible, that doesn't mean it's safe. do your research and don't ingest harmful substances!
✦ charged water
charged waters are infused with the energy of an external source - the moon, your favorite herbs and crystals, and elemental energy, for example. charged waters can be edible (potions) or inedible, which entirely depends on your intent. no really, i mean it. if you want to use this water strictly for spellwork, anointing items, adding to spell jars, etc., then you can add whatever the heck you want to it - crystals, oils, herbs, you name it.
but if you want to drink it or turn it into a potion of some sort, please for the love of the cosmos do NOT add a bunch of oils and trinkets and accessories to your DRINKING water.
essential oils are not for human consumption!!! and - you shouldn't be drinking something you just put a bunch of rocks in!!!!
✦ tips
regardless of what you plan to do with your magically enchanted water, leaving it out at room temperature is a potential breeding ground for bacteria so plan to refrigerate it or store it in a cool, dark place and dispose of it within a couple of weeks.
✦ final notes
anything you plan on drinking: use edible ingredients only, and store accordingly. do not add random nonsense to water you plan on drinking.
as always, do your own research and use your best judgement to discern what is safe and what is not.

use to:
