I’ve been painting NASA images to cling to science hope and I kinda like em.

I’m nowhere near talented enough for realism, but the overview effect I get looking at nasa photos is special enough to make me try and… art it.

Jesse Welles - my guy put out six albums this year by channeling the chaos and hopelessness of the news into quirky folk jams. If that’s not the essence of art, nothing is.

Wake Up Dead Man - Pick any area of production from lighting to performance to costuming and you’ll find myriad ways the themes influenced the choices. Unreal in every way.

Kpop Demon Hunters - There is literally nothing I can say that hasn’t been said, but it fills me with hope that a film which makes absolutely no cultural concessions to retain an audience can be so wildly popular in the US.

Surprise Chef: Superb - an incredible jazz fusion album that builds music in profound layers.

Weapons - Sometimes all you have to do is whisper your theme and everyone else will scream it for you.

Hazbin Hotel (Season 2) - There is literally no setting or theme conceivable by humankind that cannot be the baseplate for a story about forgiveness. The crazier the setting, the bigger the heart can be.

We’re All Gonna Die - criminally unseen indie sci-fi flick starring my girl Ashly Burch (Mythic Quest, Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West). Again… sometimes the crazier the setting, the bigger the heart.

The Mighty Nein - I started watching the gameplay series in 2019, so this animated series launch was a very big deal for me. Art is impossible without play by the artists, which makes tabletop games such fertile ground for incredible stories. Viva Lavorre.

Sinners - The moment where they recite the prayer with him is among the most exhilarating moments I’ve ever experienced in a movie — one of those insane moments where you see what the villains AND the director are really up to.

Frankenstein - it doesn’t matter how many times a story has been told. If you surrender to the process and to the passion you have for the subject, you’ll have something fantastic and new.
