“See, and now you’ve lost me. Though I could use with a little sweetness, you know what I’m saying? A little somethin’ somethin’. I need to be scoping out more I guess. The honey just isn’t coming to the hive, ya feel?”

“Mhmm, sure. I won’t question who then but it does seem they have you wrapped around their pinky. Just doesn’t seem very like you is all.”

“Mhmmm,” Nadia rolled her eyes, a playful smirk on her lips, “I’m not quite sure if you have the grace for spying, Z.” She teased “Maybe if you could do it all on a broom, but otherwise…”

"Are you trying to break my heart, sis? I’m pretty fly so I thought I could manage it. Though you do have a point. To be a spy, you have to be unnoticeable, and that isn’t really me.”

“Maybe. Have you been eating your fruit, young man?”

"Fruit? In winter? You know I only mess with the freshest.”

“……Zabini, what were you smoking?”

“What, did that turn of phrase have a sour note instead of a sweet one?”

“And where have you been taking in muggle films lately, my dear brother?” Nadia couldn’t help but grin fondly, “Mhm—so have you found your calling, then? Secret agent, or something?”

"In my free time I’ve been managing to get some downloads to work.” Zach grinned wide in turn, liking the thought of it. “Hey, I’m sure that the magical community could have some use for secret agents. I could pull it off.”

“Apologize? You sure you’re even in the wrong here?”

"I’m telling you it was straight out of a James Bond film. I’ll have to show you those movies sometime. It was all...smooth, grab, duck, shimmy shimmy.”

“Of course not.”, she replied snottily, folding her arms over her chest to protest such an idea further. “No one in this castle knows their left foot from their right, let alone move them to rhythm.”

"Maybe you just haven’t found the right dancing partners then.” Zach threw up a shrug. “Some people know how to hit it with the beats. You should come hang out with me sometime at a pardy. Then you’ll see. You just have to be open to more than slow dancing.”

“Tastes fine to me. Besides, like you’ve noticed, I’m not exactly an amateur when it comes to mixed drinks, so… here, you try mine and I’ll try yours.” Annette plucked his cup out of his hand, taking a quick drink of it, tasting nothing out of the ordinary. She was pleasantly surprised at what he said next, her eyes widening; his words wouldn’t really be a compliment coming from anyone else, but from Zach Zabini—-especially directed towards her—-it was as close as she was probably ever going to get.  She giggled, a small smile on her face as she replied, “That’s probably the sweetest thing you’ve ever said to me, you know. Being nice to me isn’t so bad, is it?”

Zach put on a scandalized look as Annette reached for his drink without permission. What kind of girl was this? Certainly not the kind he was used to. Sure, Amma or Leo he imagined would take his drink without hesitation either but they were like family. That was different. This girl just liked to push boundaries, clearly. “I don’t know about that,” he grumble out, deciding to grab her drink and take a swallow. It was only fair of him to after all. “You don’t have the worst fashion choices, okay? I’ll admit to that much. Though you obviously don’t have near as much sense when it comes to men’s fashion since you seem to rag at my style every chance you get and I know my style isn’t clapped.”

Katharine looked down at the beaded roses covering her thighs and smiled, “Thanks. I just figured I’d stay with the theme of this whole shindig.” 

“You’re looking pretty fresh yourself, Zach. Having any fun?”

"You did well.” Zach wasn’t often one to give compliments freely, but his friends were an exception. “Yeah, I’ve been tearing it up on the dance floor. You gonna go out there?”

“Are you implying that there’s something in my glass other than punch, Zabini?” Annette couldn’t help the smirk that lit up her face as he spoke, “Well—Amma looks amazing, but she only has so much to work with, with you as her date.” Annette wasn’t a good liar sober, and was probably an even worse liar drunk, but that wouldn’t stop her from trying. “Anyway–” She couldn’t help but ask, “—how do I look?”

"Could be. You never know with these kind of events.” Yet there he was, jugging down some punch himself. If there were alcohol, he wouldn’t even complain, so it didn’t matter to Zach. “I’m so hurt, can’t you tell?” He had no reason to care about her criticism, or so he told himself. “Eh, I guess you look alright.” Then, as an afterthought more than anything, he slipped that, “Red really is a color that suits you.”
