Thoughts about Rei, Eirin, and Laventon (HERE'S A WALL TEXT)
I've been thinking that Laventon might give Rei his camera.
The camera's shape suggests it's something he clearly brought from his homeland when he came to Hisui by boat
Rei is an artist and craftsman, and I'm sure he'd be interested in how Laventon's camera works (there's a photography studio in Hisui, but it's noticeable that the camera is older and the photographer is an elderly man who has clearly been doing this for a long time).
Rei constantly worries that Eirin will return to her own time, disappear, and forget her. Laventon surely sees this in him and decides to give him the camera to capture those happy moments together Besides, Eirin often smiles in his photos because she's genuinely happy w he
They're his little moments of peace amidst everything that happens in Hisui. In the game, Rei isn't presented as a "rival" since there's no competitive context (like in the other games, at least), but rather as a "companion"
He's one of the few characters who actually cares about you. Everyone else in the game talks to you about their questions and problems, but Rei is always there for you at the end of each mission. He's willing to spend time with you, teach you about his world, and listen to you.
I know it's a strange way to think about a character whose purpose is to "be a tutorial and counterpart," but Rei's presence during the events of PLA was very important to me (although I only noticed these things when I played it a second time)
With his few lines, shows that he's someone who cares deeply your security I also find it very endearing that in the final part of the game, when Hisui is in real danger, he's the one most concerned about you (Cyllene and Laventon too), and it's something that develops gradually
Also, Rei doesn't talk about other characters beyond his "work" relationships, which makes me think he's somewhat lonely. He's very focused on his own affairs and being a useful member of Team Galaxy and the village.
He's clearly a teenager acting like a responsible adult, which is why I think the moments he shares with Eirin are so precious, moments where he can be himself and relax.
