"Well, s'nice te meet ye, Zack! Name's Phoebe," she offered her hand, only to be surprised at the offering of flowers. She blinked, wide-eyed, before grinning and taking them. "Aw, ye're a nice fella." Delicately, she tucked one of the flowers into her hair. Her eyes scanned the shop and each of the other workers. "I dun 'ave much money, but if that offer t'show me around still stands, I'd love te take it." She turned back to Zack, smiling. "That is, if ye don't mind."
"Phoebe," he repeated warmly, nodding. Glancing around, the cherub made sure that everyone was still busy. He knew they'd have a much better knack for it, but he knew it simply wouldn't do to disturb them at such a busy time. "Okay, Miss Phoebe. I'd be happy to show you around." Tucking away his mess of ribbons, he popped up to his feet with as much grace as he possessed (which isn't much). "What do you want to see first?"
Phoebe's hands stretched out her jacket as she leaned back on her heels. "Nah, I grew them t'ol' fashion way. Sun, water, a lil' bit o' conversation, and love." Her chest puffed up, taking pride in it all. Growing flowers was something that she found a lot of joy in. Bending down, Phoebe balanced on her feet as she looked from the flowers to the cherub. "If there's too many, ye can just take t'ones ye like. I don't mind, mister--" she paused, hoping he would fill in the name she could not find.
Blinking once more, Zack shook his head. “I like them all. It would really be too difficult to choose.” Plus, he was quite excited at the prospect of being able to present them to so many of his friends. Think of the flower crowns. “Oh, and I’m not a mister. I’m just Zack,” he laughed happily, picking a few of the prettiest to present back to her. “These are for you though. It still isn’t fair for me to have them all.”
As he seemed hesitant about the gift, she became nervous, but still she held the basket aloft. "I'm sorry, Is--it too much?" Her brain scrambled for something before she realized that she didn't even know his name. And here she was, trying to give him flowers for one simple act of kindness. She must have seemed like an odd sort. At the comment though, Phoebe beamed. "Thank ye! I grew them m'self." Setting the basket down between them, she stuffed her hands in her pockets.
"Oh no," Zachariel piped up quickly at her nervous question. "I was just so very surprised by it all." And he really was. As the girl set the flowers in front of him, he took some more and turned each one carefully in his palm. Zack smiled, blinking back up at her. "All by yourself? Did you use your magic for these flowers as well?" He distinctly remembered her marvelous magic trick also involved a flower.
"Ye sure?" Phoebe leaned back, her arm with the basket swinging slightly. "I can show those ribbons what for!" She raised a fist and shook it before laughing. "Actually, I came 'ere to give ye these!" Phoebe offered the basket to him, an array of colorful flowers that ranged from white roses to bright yellow daffodils poking out from the top. "I wanted te thank ye for yer help a while back. I 'ope s'alright?" She offered a smile. "It meant a 'ole lot, what ye did."
If Zack's eyes could have widened further, they certainly would have as he glanced between the girl and the flowers. "Really?" Blinking, he was hesitant to touch the presented pretties. His face reddened slightly. "It really wasn't a problem. I'm just glad I could help." Christmas was for giving anyway. The cherub still took a single pretty blue flower from the assortment. "They are lovely."
Dressed in baggy jeans, a simple white tank top, and a jacket, Phoebe felt a little under-dressed, entering into the store. Shifting the basket of flowers she'd brought with her to her other hand, she made her way to the cherub on the floor, where she then stopped and looked at the tangled mess of colors. "Oi, s'quite a lot o' ribbons ye have there," she said, leaning over from where she stood behind him. "Ye need any 'elp there?"
Squeaking a little at the sound of her voice, the cherub looked up at the unicorn with wide eyes. "Oh!" Zack smiled, brightly. "You don't need to bother. It's part of my job after all," he added, puffing up with just a hint of pride--just a hint. It took a moment to recognize the magical girl without all of her regalia, but the basket of flowers and her accent jogged his memory.
"Are you here to shop? Maybe look at some dresses?" He asked excitedly, remembering his previous thoughts about how much Edan would have liked her showy dress from last time. "Edan's busy right now, but I can show you around until he's done."
Phoebe's face pressed against one of the window's of Edan's shop, peering in. The outfits on show were all very pretty, but much too expensive for the unicorn. As much as she'd have liked to try one of them on, it was a far off dream right now. The clothes hadn't been the reason why she came here anyway. Perking up when she spotted the familiar face of the boy who had been so generous to her a month before, she pried herself off of the glass and went inside eagerly.
Ribbons. All of the ribbons. The cherub sat wide eyed at the tangled mess of pretty strings that lay across the floor. He glanced between the swan girl and the brooding siren busy at work, then his wide eyes glanced toward his caring boss who was too buried in customer calls to notice the state of everything. "Ah." His brows furrowed a little, considering the options before shrugging and setting to work on the mess.
Zack hadn't the skills for most of the technical jobs around the shop, but it was the menial task that so often went ignored by the others. It was a nice enough to have niche, at least one that made him feel a little helpful. Too engrossed in his little task, the angel didn't notice the pretty flower girl's approach.
Sorry Ivy, Katie. I should have said something earlier, but I need to step back for a little while. :,v My mood has taken a very strange turn.
man, swapping between Tristan and Zack is literally like whiplash.
With her attention focused on the hat, as if money would magically appear out of thin air and place itself into it if she just focused enough, she was shocked to find that it had worked. Surprised at the sudden addition to the hat, she looked up at the man. "Oh!" Phoebe scrambled up, putting her headdress back on. Clearing her throat, she bowed with a flourish, coat billowing. "Thank you, kind sir, and a merry Christmas to you! Would you like to see a magic trick?" She raised her head, hopeful.
Standing straighter than before, Zack beamed at her in his own bit of wide-eyed wonder. "Really? A magic trick?" He was already convinced her outfit had been made of magic and then flourishing, the headdress had him convinced even further. He was very tempted to run back to Edan and drag him out of the shop to see the marvel as well.
Instead, the cherubim nodded excitedly, too glued to the spot to make an attempt at that venture. "I'm not a sir, just a Zack, but I'd very much like to see your magic trick if it isn't much trouble."
S O L D I E R
After about a year I’ve finally got my scanner working again!
I remember being amused when I found out that the word ‘Cherub’ is incorrectly used to describe adorable chubby flying babies (the correct word is apparently ‘Putti’?). And that Cherubim are actually terrifying harbingers of gods wrath so I mixed them up a bit.
I want to research iconography more and use it in my art because reasons.
