Does culture, language or traditions matter for a country?
We have no civic sense because we have no culture or care for preserving history. We as citizens of Pakistan feel ignored by the law making bodies. A major portion of the population can't afford to care for the environment, let alone be aware of it. Why would anyone take a stand against pollution if they have a family to feed at the end of the day. Our country has become uncultured and apathetic and all our individual personalities are white washed. Stereotypes are attached to each age. Our only goal is survival and monetary gain to the extent that if we pay our taxes , we use it as an excuse to not put waste in waste bins. The only way for us to forget our insecurities and build self esteem is by isolating ourselves from the concept of ownership towards our country.
We fail to percieve that our country will never be defined by the people who litter, it will always be those who don't pick up the litter.
Punjab won't be called Punjab if the five rivers dry up. Sindh's relation to the coast won't define it once all the magroves are cut up and the coast is covered in plastic. Balcohistan will forever be known for untapped potential. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa won't be called that once all the mountains are mined and all the wild life is gone. Shakarparian won't be called that once the trees are cut up. My city Kohat can't be called Kohat because you can barely see the mountains unless it rains.
But does it matter? Do names of places matter?
We have to accept that nature is an integral part of us.
