ZAKEE releases short film "Tippin" ahead of his upcoming project, Rise of the Rebels: ASSIMILATIONS Zakee returns with his latest visual for the single “Tippin” ahead of his forthcoming sophomore LP Rise Of The Rebels: Assimilations, due this Spring. A short film and musical journey through Colombia, South America, Tippin features children from Tierra Bomba, an island off the coast of Cartagena inhabited by descendants of enslaved Africans. While "Tippin" tackles heavy subjects such as addiction, injustice and love, the short film serves as a message of empowerment. Zakee says:
"Tippin describes moments in my life where I almost reached a breaking point. I wanted to contrast that imagery with messages of empowerment that would hopefully resonate with people with similar challenges, even The Tierra Bomba Boys. Tippin, gives a glimpse of the people of Tierra Bomba, with strong visuals of their real lives, work and struggles."
Zakee was inspired to shoot Tippin when he met the kids of the island who are tackling the island waste management issues, with sustainable solutions. To support this work, Zakee and the Twelve Bit Media team are planning to build Tierra Bomba's first eco-friendly community center & school.

Pittsburgh, PA -- In less than two weeks, thousands of youth leaders are converging at PowerShift 2013 to mobilize around environmental and social justice issues, and this year they’ll be joined by an eclectic mix of music and sounds from some of the top independent artists from around the country.
Creative Director and Producer Zakee Kuduro brought together a diverse set of artists to make up the official line-up for the Power Shift 2013 Concert Series, featuring: Big K.R.I.T., Idle Warship, Spank Rock, Nosaj Thing, Ninjasonik, Chippy Non Stop, Yuna, Teachers led by Ben Bronfman, Uncle Ron, and Catzie Vilayphonh. A selection of these artists will close out each powerful day of workshops, short film screenings and trainings, with must see musical sets, giving audiences a chance to dance and have fun after busy days of organizing and activism. Each of the artists featured in the concert is down for the cause, supporting environmental justice and social justice causes. They’re performing in solidarity with the youth leaders working for a brighter future.
Power Shift is a bi-annual convergence of thousands of youth activists focused on climate and environmental justice. ZAKEE'S Sophmore Lp. Rise of the Rebels: ASSIMILATIONS-WINTER 2014
Zakee returns with his latest single “Tippin” ahead of his forthcoming sophomore LPRise Of The Rebels: Assimilations, due out this winter. The track – similar to the upcoming project – tackles addiction, injustice and love according to the gospel of gritty rhymes, driving electricity and the omnipresent 808 anchored by an ethereal hook. What you are hearing with “Tippin” is the emotional maturation of the trap. Zakee spoke on the project ahead of the single release:
Rise of the Rebels: Assimilations shows a side of me that only a select few get to see. This music represents my life growing up in West Philly while traveling around the world. My perspectives are a bit different but still grounded in the hood where I came from. It represents all those underdog moments of my life while paying homage.”
The project includes contributions from Ski Beatz, Prince Paul and Sisko. Check the track below to get a taste of Zakee’s single “Tippin.” Stay tuned for more from the Rise Of The Rebels: Assimilations LP, coming soon.
Imagine living in a place that’s so serene that when you open your eyes…you’ll swear you are standing inside of your dream. Of course you don’t want to awake, only to pinch yourself standing in all the Glory that has been given for your eyes to see. You touch the air with your tounge and run your fingers through the soil envoking all its minerals.
Oil pipelines have been in the news a lot this past year, between the proposed Keystone XL pipeline and various publicized oil spills. Potential human health effects of these spills are one of the concerns frequently raised, so I decided to take a fairly high-level look at the potential risks by hitting the road for our "Quest for Sustainability" series. I made the journey up to Pike County, Pennsylvania just outside of Upstate, NY where describing the mountains as beautiful is a complete understatement. This is part 1 of a story of a small town in Milford,PA who wants to keep their water clean, air free of toxins and of course pipeline free. The action to stop these trees from being cut was ended, but the fight against the Tennessee Gas Pipeline continues.
