Unmarked: Goodyear Welted Made in Mexico
Recently, a friend from Styleforum told me about two brands - Unmarked and Johen Doe Shoes - that are made in Mexico but with the difference that they are using the goodyear welt method. Of course, he got my attraction since these boots were not being sold in Mexico but they were being sold in the US and some Asian markets with a lot of success. I needed to try them.
In this case, I went to the Unmarked showroom. They donât have a big store, in fact most of their models are sold online but they added this showroom to start selling in the mexican market. Plus they have a nice deal but only in the showroom.

Lets start with my opinion of the boots.
At a glance, they look great. I mean, there are some models thatare not for my taste but, most of them are. I went to the showroom to see if I could get one pair of boots and another for my friend. Unfortunately they didnât have in my size so my friend grabbed two boots. These are the ones you see in the pics.
Unmarked is using a lot of leathers from some of the great manufacturers. You can get options like Vintage Grained Leather, Smooth Calf Suede, Smooth Grain Heavy Leather, Heavy Weight Suede or Chromexcel Leather.
They use for all their shoes the famous goodyear welt construction. Which, a lot of you know, it allows you to resole your shoes and have them for a long time. If you take good care of them, of course. They also offer the resole and itâs not that expensive.
What is unfortunate is that you donât have a lot of information in the web page about their lasts. Most of us who like shoes, we like to read a bit about the last to get an idea of what size we should use. Mexican sizes are pretty straight forward, itâs the same as the Japanese. So, fo example, if your foot measures 27 centimeters you would have to pick 9 US. But you donât have any extra information about the width of the boot.
When I tried my size, I would say that the boots fits True To Size. I have a 10 US in my Red Wing Beckman. I tried the 10 US in Unmarked and they fit very well, I would say that I felt a bit more space in my toes than with my Red Wingâs. My friend is an 8 US and he told me they fit very nice. I told them that they should add some information about the lasts and widths so customers get some insight.
Around here itâs very hard to get some Red Wing, Wolverine or boots like that, so Unmarked itâs a very good option. I would say that they are just a touch below my Red Wingâs in terms of construction and quality materials. Iâm looking forward to try myself a pair of them. I really like the âSeñor Boot Bull Hideâ.
