     Ash didn’t bandage up his shoulder. He was too focused on finding Jay and her Luxray to bother. Blood splattered his feet and made a trail behind him. Once he finally found where the duo had run off to, a wave of exhaustion crashed over him. Ash collapsed to the ground, but before he passed out, he said, “H-Hey, I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean to s-scare you, okay? I was just hungry, I p-promise! I mean... I guess I should’ve a-asked first, or... uh... something... b-but...” he trails off. His eyes close, his breathing slows, and he loses consciousness.

     Ash may have thought he was unnoticed, but he was not. Bolt’s ears lifted and his hackles raised. He let out a warning growl, to notify Jay of the boy sneaking around in their campsite. But she was not listening—she had her eyes trained on the stars, food half-eaten in her hands.

     However, she was not completely oblivious. And when she heard Ash’s voice, she snapped back to life. Her head whipped around, and at the sight of a boy, she scampered backward, away from him. She yelped and shivered, face in her hands, and Bolt got to his paws, putting himself between Jay and Ash. 

     “Go away,” he growled, fangs bared, “or I’ll be forced to make you.”

     Ash was not phased by Bolt’s growling. He, in fact, was completely unbothered. However, when the Pokemon told him to scram, his eyes widened. “What? Oh, man, I did it again, didn’t I?” He looked guiltily at the crumbs staining his hands. “Geez...”

     Without caution, Ash approached the Luxray. Once he was standing directly in front of it, he said, “Look, I’m sorry for takin’ your food. But didn’t’cha ever think about what would happen if you left it out like that? I mean, lots’a Pokemon could’ve gotten into it, and maybe even some people, too!” He shook his head. “But, um... if you’re gonna ‘force’ me, then why don’t we battle? I think that’d settle this!”

     Ash bent over and fell to the ground, as he was obviously supposed to. His stomach ravenously growled. A monster clawed at his insides, begging to be fed. But he had no food. “Ughhhh,” he groaned. He was too hungry to move. “This stinks! What am I supposed to do now...?”

     Suddenly, Ash’s nose perked up. He was on his feet in a second, and following the delicious scent that was filling the air. It led him to a makeshift campsite. A girl and her Luxray were sitting around a fire, eating. Ash saw a pile of leftover food behind them, snuck up to it, and grabbed a roll.

     “Score!”
