BRIEF: Research Centre/Bird Hide

The brief for this project was to design both a bird hide and a research centre in an island opposite Kew Gardens located in Brentford, West London, on the River Thames.

The bird hide was to be there to allow for the public to observe the birds in the opposite island which contained a bird sanctuary.

The research centre proposal is to be dedicated to the study of fluid mechanics, therefore, its main space will be a laboratory. It will be in partnership with Imperial University, as it is a prestigious university, specialising in the sciences. There will be both a gallery and event space to show the evolution of fluid mechanic research over the years such as that by Da Vinci and Newton.

BRIEF: Film Studio/Cinema

Brentford is home to the Waterman’s Art Centre - an arts centre which is to be demolished and redesigned; located in Brentford, West London.

The concept for this project is based on filming. Brentford has been seen in the big screen numerous of times, dating all the way back to the early 1940s. To capture Brentford’s cinematic history, the proposed building will be based on designing a film studio that creates new cinematic moments. The concept is that for the building to mimic aspects of cinema, such as framing the sites surroundings, similar to movie frames, and to have one continuous circulation as though the building is one long movie that can be experienced. It will be a black and white building in respect to the old movies that were filmed in Brentford - this is an attempt to reflect Brentford’s cinematic history onto the proposed building’s exterior.
