If the blocks do not add up at any time, present or future, that block is thrown out to keep the chain secure and impenetrable.

Pros, Cons, and Tips for Startup CEOs and Founders
1. What are the downsides of being the boss?
The role of being a CEO can be awfully lonely. It is rare that people understand. There should be group therapy sessions where startup founders vent to each other about the similar, yet unique, difficulties we face. Even when we share our stories with each other, we can still feel alone. That is an odd feeling.
2. What are the upsides of being the boss? You can make your own hours, kind of. On average, I may work 60–70 hours a week, but I sometimes get to choose when I have lunch. My lunch could be an hour, two hours, or ten minutes. Autonomy, or perception of autonomy, has always been dear to me.
3. What tips do you have for reducing the stress of being the boss? Remind yourself, “This too shall pass.” Everything is transitory. Every headache or heartache, every tedious day, every celebration or vacation shall pass. Vacation days are the worst. I feel out of control and helpless.
Meditation helps me a great deal: mindfulness and transcendental.
Other Tips: Be sure to stand up. Work standing up sometimes. Be sure to step outside into the daylight at least once per day. Wake up in the morning and look outside at the green earth before looking at a screen. Be sure to turn all devices on silent for at least nine hours. This gives you eight hours of sleep plus one hour of downtime before bed. Blue light glasses at night are great to help the brain wind down.
That’s some of what I have! I hope it’s helpful.

Say it Again
Communication is EVERYTHING. We have always been a remote-first team. One of our mottos is, “You cannot over-communicate.” It is impossible. We speak half a dozen languages, come from over half a dozen time zones, and lead very different lives. If we are not communicating every time a question or idea is just a twinkle in our eye, we are doing something wrong. All our experiences matter. We develop safety products that help people across all cultures, time zones, and demographics.
The biggest hurdle we have faced has been miscommunication. We work hard to be sure we are all always aligned. Our management team is in constant communication to be sure this is the case. The second biggest hurdle is cultural differences. We can only bridge these differences with open, transparent, and concise communication.

Important Remote Skill
Remote Skill(s)
The most valuable skills that remote workers MUST have or learn are Communication, communication and communication.
On my wall, I drafted a little sign that I refer to and remind my team of:
1. Communicate often.
2. Communicate clearly and directly.
We all know time is lost in directionless meetings. However, time is also lost when a team member is not fully aligned with the company’s vision, mission, and short-term goals.
My team is spread across seven time zones and nearly as many languages. It is essential to me that we communicate often. If any one of us has even the whiff of a query, it needs asking proliferously until that person gets an answer they understand in any language they speak, and then some.

Imposter Syndrome
When I feel like an imposter, like I am not qualified to make such a substantial impact, I remember several things. No one else will do it, so I might as well. I also remember that this is my life’s mission, not something I will quit come hell or high water. Maybe it will take me a long time to succeed. Maybe I do not have the skills needed yet, but I am dedicated and will learn them. I am married to solving the problem and adapting the solution as things change.
In essence, I remind myself why I am here. And I keep walking the long, sometimes lonely path because it is necessary. It is purpose.

Technology & Psychology
How do people react when they are in danger? Why does one person act with precision when the proverbial sh*t hits the fan, but another person freezes? Everyone reacts wildly different in emergencies. Zeer wants to use machine learning and wearable IoTs to create a frictionless emergency response system.
With lots of anonymous data, over time, we will learn to steer people away from danger and respond more efficiently to medical emergencies. It is nearly impossible to get help while alone, if you are having a heart attack or seizure. If dogs can interpret when I am going to have a seizure, why can’t my smartphone or watch? It can and it will. That’s the future of NextGeneration911 as we see it.

#Entrepreneur: Best Skill(s) to Learn/Have
The most valuable attribute a CEO or Founder can possess is a willingness to learn new things. If variety is the spice of life, it is also the foundation on which to build a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and intellectual agility.
High brain plasticity may one day help you navigate your company around disruption. High plasticity also saved my life from the disruption of a traumatic brain injury.

ElderCare and Technology
Before I started this company, I spent 2 years as the full-time caretaker of my grandfather so he could die as peacefully as possible at home.
After I was attacked and started this personal safety company, I found that not only young people, but people 60+ respond well to our product, particularly if they live live alone and with a chronic illness. For them, NextGeneration 911 software like Zeer is a game changer.

Ethics Around Apps Recording Crimes
The advantages of apps that allow anyone to report crimes securely and discreetly are clear. For the first time in history, we are not dependent only on a neutral eyewitness to a crime. Technology is unbiased mainly in its “witnessing” of any event. The man who likely attacked me was acquitted because there were no recordings, and I could remember nothing after the coma. If Zeer captured the attack, it would be indisputable what happened. The jury then becomes the arbiter of truth.
But, the ethical issues are significant. A problem we at Zeer wrestle with is how perpetrators may use our technology to control the narrative in an abusive relationship. The context of recordings is influential and can be lost by intentionally timing the activation of Zeer.
In the future, I expect near-ubiquity of audio, video, and metadata collection to be everywhere outside the home. In one sense, this supports our mission of driving down the prevalence of crime, which will hopefully put us out of business. On the other, it raises serious problems of constant surveillance by the state or other powerful stakeholders who report to no one of consequence. Either way, as the costs go down, this will be the future. It practically already exists in cities like London.
Strong and free democracies, which are on the wane, will be necessary to balance public safety, personal privacy, and the technology that can support both.
