People really don’t care the way they say they do.

And I’m tired of pretending like it doesn’t hurt.

I’ve been mentally suffering for a long time. Longer than I ever admitted out loud. And the part that breaks me is that people around me know something is wrong… but the check-ins stopped. The support stopped. The “you good?” stopped.

At the beginning of December, it got so bad I almost didn’t make it.

And you’d think after something like that, people would show up.

You’d think folks would check on you, call you, care.

But being a Black man with mental illness is a different kind of lonely.

People expect you to “man up,” “get over it,” or “push through.”

They don’t try to understand your pain, they just want you functional.

I’m not okay.

I’ve been alone for weeks, trying to pull myself together while my mind is cracking at the edges. And all I want, literally all I want, is a hug. Someone to say “I care about you” and actually mean it.

I’m screaming into the void because I don’t know where else to put this:

Somebody help me.

Please.

I just need someone to care.
