Just watched the new Snow White and I actually really liked it. I heard a lot of bad reviews and mostly seemed to be about making yet another girlboss out of a more passive (which is totally fine) heroine. And ya she is more driven but like she still tried everything else before finally stepping up. She didn’t run away until the huntsman tried to kill her, she wanted to find her father so he could fix everything instead of her, and she still needed everybody’s help. The animals helped her, the dwarves, the love interest kissed her awake. She honestly gave a couple speeches and did almost nothing else. She didn’t even help the dwarves clean they did all the work.
I do have a couple things I would have changed tho. The romance was too quick. To fix this they should have had them be friends as children. Then when they recognized each other as adults her disappointment in him being a thief would have been even more scathing. But then they could have built off that and the immediate falling in love would have had some foundation.
Also it was weird that the huntsman would suddenly do anything for Snow White. Like it made sense for him not to kill her but then he kept defending her when he doesn’t really know her. I think when he took her to pick apples she should have gabbed the whole way remembering the kindness of her parents and even maybe his past. Then it would have made more sense.
One thing I really liked was how the queen died. In the original the animals and a storm kinda pushed her off a cliff which was dramatic but kind of weird. But in this her own fury broke the mirror (which was so instrumental) and that destroyed her as well. It was a great example of her evil being her own downfall.
