OKAY SO *heavy breathing*
To make it as spoiler free for the other two games as possible, I will mainly focus on Mystic messenger here! If you’re curious about the other two games, send me an ask!
LET’S START!
First off, there are two games that came before MM - Dandelion, and then Nameless.
What it’s about: Dandelion - A very unique game with an excellent plot! In this world, there are Wizards that can create dimensions, and have extraordinary power. But to gain power, Wizards must grant wishes.
The wish can be made from anywhere from any part of the world, as long as the wish is genuine and desperate.
Another thing about this game is that there isn’t just ONE wizard, there are MULTIPLE wizards all around the world. This is as much as I can say about the game without spoiling it.
More about this game: just like MM, there are multiple endings but what is different is how you get to the endings - Dandelion is a stat raising game that allows you to see which route you might get on.
NEXT, My personal fave, Nameless, the one thing you must recall:
What it’s about: Nameless is the second game of cheritz which, in my personal opinion, has the best story line. In summary, you (the MC) owns 5 ball-joint dolls that comes to life one day and lives with you. This is not a spoiler because they come alive in the prologue - your job is to figure out why they come alive in the first place. There is rarely any talk of the wizard in this game, but here, it was a wizard who brought them to life.
More about this game:
- Each character has only 1 True end and MULTPLE (up to 5) bad ends.
-it’s PG15 as there are explicit words said, trigger warnings, and also sexually implied scenes.
(PLEASE for the love of all things GOOD play these two games because they really are amazing YES I AM HIGH KEY ADVERTISING because
1. The characters are beautiful. You WILL fall in love with all of the characters.
2. the plot
3. the visuals
4. the VOICES OF THE CHARACTERS ASDGFLD:F
5. the ost’s. HILL ME THE OST’S ARE SO GOOD)
Also, both games are fully voiced over from the start to finish!
Now for the main topic: MYSTIC MESSENGER (aka pain)
What it’s about: You (the MC) gets thrown in to this group chat for RFA members only by an unknown person. This app allows you to talk to them, call and message them. They are all hot, funny and you are there to help them grow and get through their problems.
The game is MUCH MORE COMPLEX that it lets on. It’s not just ANY dating sim. In fact, i don’t think it should be categorized as a dating game at all?
The entire MM universe is created by none other than V and 707. It starts off with 707 knowing about you playing this game - of course he does, he created everything. He’s the wizard. Proof?
You’d think that it’s just a gimmick by him, but it’s not.
707 has been a weird character from the start. He breaks the fourth wall, talks about this game, says things that doenst really make sense to us.
The thing is: he’s a freaking powerful wizard who helped V make this universe. He created this “world” for us so that he can consume our Hourglasses, which in other words, are our ‘memories’ so that he can grant our wish to unlock endings and continue the game. He has single-handedly created a new system for wizards so that they do not need to grant wishes - the hourglasses that we earn and pay for, those are our wishes right there.
Now, further proof that both V and 7 are wizards:
7 and V having free will here meaning that 7 and V are wizards and can do whatever they wish, while the other characters are just obeying what they are programmed to do.
Carefully planned algorithm. Seven obeying V’s orders. Note: Here, Yoosung does not know that rika is actually still alive, but other than that, Yoosung is dead-on.
In this bad end, it wouldn’t make sense unless you know about the Wizards’ and the other universes. Unless you have played the previous two games, you wouldn’t know that wizards can have the ability to create worlds for their source of power.
If you went through Yoosung’s bad relationship end (yes the one where he goes bat shit crazy and sounded like Saeran) and after the lights went off in 707′s apartment, the ending conversation went like this:
Yoosung: Huh? Why is everything dark?
707: We have to make the announcement.
Yoosung: What announcement?
707: That the game will end here for not having enough likability points.
707: Please play again~ Even if you hate us, let’s meet again!
(This ending always gives me the fucking creeps but here is the actual vnm)
So! Knowing what ‘Universes’ and ‘Dimensions’ and ‘Wizards’ are now, let’s continue with the explanation.
1. If V is a wizard, then why isn’t he the true end like 7 is?
V was supposed to be the main character in this world. Okay, think of him as the ‘failed’ wizard who was not able to finish his plan. Hence this message by yoosung:
V is also a wizard, which meant he had to grant a desperate wish for power. Rika, from what we can gather, was supposed to be the original MC for the world V tried to create, but failed. He asks for the help of Seven. Rika, on the other hand, is said to ‘be the only one that can prevent the scheme from happening,’ which means she knows that both V and Seven are wizards, and tried to stop them from gaining power through tragic means.
RIKA!!! Rika tried to stop V from using our memories!!!!
Rika, my poor dear, has been misunderstood by the entire fandom. She was forced to be portrayed as the bad character (whether on her own free will or by Seven’s plan, I’m not sure) so that the game can go on. She started ‘Minteye’ to create a world for people to live happily in, right? Well, from my view, she wanted to make a world where she and V can be happy together.
V was killed. At least, that’s what we think. After confirming that V is a wizard, we can safely say that even his death was staged and planned out by 7. It was most probably a plot so that V could remove himself from this game, 707′s universe, probably in effort to go start a new universe again.
Also, Rika losing her memories could mean that she made a desperate wish for V to come back to life.
3. Are you SURE they are wizards?
… for the last time, YES! Head over to Cheritz’s youtube channel. Vanderwood’s voice actor talks about he existence of wizards in all three games.
Also, there’s an on going theory on the wizards that cheritz has yet to confirm or deny - they don’t feel love. They feel infatuation, curiosity, but not love. Which is why, my friends, 707 never loved us. He made everything up so that we would fall into his hands.
4. Are the three games connected with one another?
Actually, they aren’t at all. Just connected by the theory that each ‘dimension’ has their own wizard. Although they aren’t connected, there are many times where Mystic Messenger places easter eggs related to the two games.
Here, we can see Zen dressing up as a character from Dandelion (Jisoo the black cat) and from Yoosung’s thought, the Defender of justice Red (from Nameless) makes an appearance! Cool, huh?
Okay! I’ve vaguely covered the main theories. But what about the other characters in Mystic Messenger?
In Dandelion, the world is created by the Wizard, but the 5 playable characters are born from animals. In Nameless, the 5 playable characters are ball-joint dolls that were brought to life. In Mystic messenger?
…in mystic messenger, all of the characters other than V and Rika were created by 707. Which means they aren’t real, even if everything is just a game, they aren’t real. They aren’t real in their own realm, in their own ‘dimension’ because they were made up by 707.
It is proven from what yoosung said. It is proven again in many other occasions where 707 mentions that this is just all a game. Zen, Jumin, Jaehee and Yoosung - they are just robots programmed to say things. (ow fuck my heart)
BUT THEN, THE APRIL FOOL’S DLC:
While there’s not much worth mentioning in the Xmas and Valentines DLC other than 707 breaking the 4th wall yet again, in the April fools DLC, ZEN! KNOWS! EVERYTHING!!!! There are 3 endings - one where you keep Zen safe from all the pranks, one which I haven’t unlock, and the last one where Zen understands everything and that he’s trapped in another dimension which isnt ours.
From beginning till the end of the entire MM journey, I have always loved Zen no matter who’s route I am in. And each time, EACH time you go to another character’s route, it still feels like he cares for you, doesn’t he? Just like all the theories on how ‘seven loves you through every route, that’s why he’s the true end’ and all that fizz? Well, in the April Fools extra, we are proven wrong yet again because Zen! Is! The! True! End!
He and Rika are the only HUMAN CHARACTERS IN THE GAME.
He knows about the different dimensions now. He is also a self-aware character that is trapped in seven’s made-up world. What’s more? He knows that we are in the 3D world while he’s stuck in his 2D dimension created by 707, that all time, everyone else are just robots.
His psychic dreams weren’t dreams, they were the truth of what’s going on.
For instance, he had dreams that every one in the chatroom were just robots (very similar to Yoosung’s bad end where he convinces everyone that they are robots) and were controlled by someone. But he brushes this fact off, thinking it was the stress getting to him.
But all this while, Zen Hyun Ryu is a real character, not just a programe. Not made up by 707.
While now we are sure that Zen is real and is trying his best to get to us, we can look forward to more of the future DLC’s in hopes that the other characters will obtain self-aware as well! And probably, more explanation on what’s going on.
I think the reason why Cheritz would go to such lengths to make this DLC is to tell people that SEVEN. IS. INDEED A WIZARD. People have been bashing cheritz for the valentines DLC where 707 just blantly states that everything is just a game! I hope whoever is reading this post understands that these three games, while not connected in terms of plot, are connected by the same theme. There’s a wizard in every game. For this April Fool’s dlc, i think cheritz just wanted to MAKE THINGS CLEAR FOR EVERYONE.
Mentions of Dandelion and Nameless. They are just so fed up of the hate and questioning cheritz is basically BEGGING us to play the first two games by advertising it on MM.
Because of the DLCs, the fandom has been at each other throats about the theories. Many still think that 707 stating that he’s a wizard is just…707 being 707. Not many of us know this much. The things I’m sharing with you here - they are all real.
707 and V are wizards. Cheritz made this April Fools DLC to try to explain it to us and also to subtlety tell us to play their first two games for more clarity.
I hoped I managed to ease some of your curiosity and answer some questions. While I know that there will be some people who will definitely disagree with what i wrote, but here are the facts. I’ll even link you to sources but i’m too sick to do so, so maybe in the next post!
Again, I encourage everyone to play the first two games, whether to understand a little more about the theories, or to support cheritz in their upcoming projects!
Please do feel free to ask about anything at all :D
