Vergil flips the page of his book, gingerly sipping at the tea in his hand. He intends to enjoy the peace while it lasts.
The wind started to kick up just outside of the two's shared home, with Zephyr redirecting his landing with a carefully placed gale. The metal of his new fans seemed to sing as they sliced through the air, striking and deflecting a demon's claws.
"I don't know why you feel so emboldened, but allow me to remind you of something." The witch remarked. "This is my home, and you are not welcome here!" He spun himself into a whirlwind, dicing his opponent as it's parts collided against the window Vergil was sitting beside.
Zephyr couldn't help but chuckle at the remark, standing from the table he was sitting at and moving to greet the familiar face. "Saw? No. Felt? Absolutely." He replied before placing a hand on Mercury's shoulder. "It's been far too long. How have you been?"
Mercury's expression softened as he saw Zephyr, trying to not seem too excited to see the fortune teller again. "Ah, you know, the usual. Been staying out of trouble though, or at least trying to."
He paused a moment to glance around. "What about you? I'm sure you're constantly swamped with work."
Zephyr laughed at that, gesturing to the rather quiet shop. "Oh, yes. So busy and so swamped." He replied as he moved to sit on a nearby counter. "Most of my apothecary work is settled with the delivery services these days, so I'm rather lonely."
The fortune teller slowly crossed his legs, tilting his head at the other with a smirk. "You've gotten slightly better at hiding your emotions." He complimented with a flash of energy in his eyes. "Slightly."
@zephyr-iffic
Mercury casually whistled a low tune as he entered the shop. "One special delivery," he announced, the corner of his lips turning upward into a smirk. "Though, I'm sure you saw me comin'."
Zephyr couldn't help but chuckle at the remark, standing from the table he was sitting at and moving to greet the familiar face. "Saw? No. Felt? Absolutely." He replied before placing a hand on Mercury's shoulder. "It's been far too long. How have you been?"
A soft gasp slipped out, his heart hammering against his ribcage as his emotions threatened to burst forth tenfold. He then laughed a little, nose nuzzling against Zephyr's as he guided the other back toward the bed.
"You're always such a tease," he murmured, his voice rumbling from deep in his chest.
He then pounced forward, lips and teeth clashing as they tumbled onto the mattress. His kisses move down Zephyr's jawline, then further to that spot just below the other's ear. He wanted to savor every sound, every moan and whisper and lock it into his memories.
Zephyr's back arched as he felt familiar lips on his jaw and neck, fingers digging into Adam's arms slightly as his lover played with those oh-so-delicious spots. "Adam--" He panted out, words interrupted by moans and whimpers. If he had sense in this moment, he'd have let this moment play out without the aid of his pathokinetic charm.
Adam's actions made sure that sense--along with stress and worry--were no longer in the room.
He would have a pithy response if he wasn't absolutely entranced by Adam's emotions, and performing as an echo chamber for said emotion.
A soft hum escaped Adam, not hesitating to hold onto Zephyr's waist and pull him closer. "Fortunately, I think I can provide plenty of that."
He leaned in to eagerly kiss the fortune teller upon the lips, a familiar sensation that never failed to send his mind and senses into a frenzy. He could hardly hold back as he deepened the kiss, hoping that his lover could feel exactly as he felt in the moment.
"For now...focus on me. The rest of the world can wait."
When Adam kissed him, it felt like his very being tingled. It was a consequence of his Semblance, Pathokinesis. Zephyr could sense every stray feeling around him, and once upon a time, it would overwhelm him. Now, however?
Now it made moments like this so much more wonderful.
Adam was holding back. Just barely, as if his desire was roaring at the bars of an enclosure. Zephyr's fingers started to glow an absolutely sinful pink as he provided just a little nudge into recklessness. A smile crossed his lips at the other's words.
"You don't have to tell me twice."
Adam furrowed his brows, moving a bit closer to take Zephyr's hands in his own. He brought them to his lips to kiss the back of each one, gently squeezing them in reassurance.
"Is something on your mind? Perhaps something I can help with..." He lifted a hand to brush away loose strands of hair from Zephyr's face. "It would do you no good if you were to burn out like this."
As he felt Adam's lips on the back of his hands, the fortune teller let out a knowing chuckle. "If this treatment continues, I can think of a few things you could help me with..." He remarked, leaning into his lover's touch with a smirk.
"To answer your question...what isn't on my mind?" Zephyr muttered. "I'll be alright. I just need rest." However, that devilish smirk returned as he guided Adam's hand to his waist. "And plenty of tender love and care, of course~."
"I didn't hear you come in." (To Adam, and we're back in the freaking building again--)
@zephyr-iffic (WE'RE BACK IN THE BUILDING AGAIN--)
A soft laugh escaped Adam, the corner of his lips turned upward as he approached Zephyr. It was only natural for him to be silent in his movements, yet old habit die hard it seemed.
"My apologies... I hope I didn't startle you."
"No, I..." Zephyr stopped his words as a thought came to his mind. "...I usually feel you approach. I suppose I'm attuned to you, in a way, but you snuck up on me today."
He turned, holding his forehead for a moment. The past few...whatever amount of time was appropriate had been stressful. Perhaps he was burning out. It wouldn't be the first time, of course.
"My apologies, Beloved. I must be tired."
☀️-- It had been a while since he'd last felt like this. Or maybe, actually, not that long at all. Maybe he just buried it.
He didn't belong here. Not natively. Not in the way that most everything else around him did. As much as he tried, he always had to hold something back or push something forward. Always had to keep some type of wall between himself and others. So few who knew the truth in the grand schemes of things. Few who he could be completely open with. He wasn't human. He wasn't even a metahuman.
He had been raised among them, he loved all of them.
But at the same time... he wasn't Kyptonian either. Not in a way that felt like it mattered. His powers marked him as such, but he hardly knew anything about Krypton itself. He longed for Krypton, wished to know what it was like and felt a sadness for its destruction, but in the end... he couldn't quite relate to Kara either.
Even if he could be more completely himself with the League, he still felt odd.
Clark pressed his lips together.
"Nah, I'm telling you. San Francisco is weirdly quieter than any other place I've lived." Zephyr chuckled into the phone as he strolled down the sidewalk. "But I don't mind Metropolis. It always feels like opportunity is just around--"
His words were interrupted when he bumped into someone on the street, hands failing to catch his phone. "Oh, goddess, I am so sorry--" Zephyr remarked as he started to compose himself. "I should've been more aware." As the magician stood after grabbing the discarded device, dark eyes finally appraised the person in front of him.
There was something about that expression. It wasn't his business and he probably shouldn't push.
"I'll talk to you later." It was the only warning Zephyr gave before he ended the call and focused on the man he bumped into. "Hey, it's not my place, but are you okay?"
"That's not..." Vergil let out a sigh as he gave Zephyr's shoulders a gentle squeeze. "You never needed to prove yourself to me. Nonetheless, I'm glad you're safe."
He lifted a hand to cup his lover's cheek, thumb tracing over the cheekbone in a soothing motion. A long list of questions formed in his mind, but he bit his tongue as he sorted out his priorities for the moment.
"Let's get you cleaned up."
In one swift motion, he scooped up the witch in his arms and effortlessly carried him to the bathroom.
"Next time, please warn me before galavanting off to take on a powerful demon by yourself."
"...okay."
Zephyr leaned against Vergil, finally letting out an exhale. It was a blur as Vergil prepared a bath until he slowly sunk into the water, and his eyes returned to their normal dark hues. He'd done something incredibly dangerous, and there was no promise that he would've survived.
He did survive. He'd done something that he could've sworn he couldn't, depending on when one had asked him.
The witch's eyes moved back to the bladed fans on the counter of the sink. Tailwind had broken in that battle. A staff that had been with him for what felt like a lifetime, upgraded and upgraded some more. There was no time to mourn in the heat of battle, but now?
There was more than enough time for anything now.
"When we talked about...about us potentially sharing the fate as others in our kind of life, it made me worry that I couldn't stand next to you. That, when the time came, I'd fall as easily as I would've when I started on this path."
His eyes fell back on Vergil once more.
"Now I know I won't. I feel it, Vergil. Every day, the chaos of my magic becomes more and more orderly. I'm able to do things I was never able to before. Now..." He dunked his head under the water to clear his hair and head of whatever detritus that had lingered before coming back up.
"...now I feel worthy of it all."

There was a sense of disconnection as Zephyr looked Vergil up and down. He just proved that he could handle himself against a demon, and forged a new weapon with it's essence. Why was his fiancé so worried? His illuminated gaze trailed down to the hands on his shoulders and further to his own, focusing on the engagement ring.
Not a scratch on it. Good.
"I handled it." Zephyr replied flatly. "All by myself. You don't have to worry about me, Beloved."
Already his wounds started to mend, though the exhaustion didn't dissipate completely. He leaned forward, touching his forehead to Vergil's and closing his eyes while magic kept him standing.
"We don't have to be worried about the future now."
Babe, new flavor pickle
Zephyr looked between the can and Wally for a moment in utter defeat and disbelief before taking a deep breath in. He loved Wally, Wally was his boyfriend, there was nothing they couldn't do together--
He exhaled before looking back at the ginger speedster. "I love you." He remarked to both remind himself and as a lead in to his next statement. "This is diabolical, but I love you."

Vergil's brows furrowed as he met Zephyr's gaze, lips parted to speak yet no words would come out. He let out a sigh as he put a hand over the one on his face, calloused fingers surprisingly gentle and tender.
"I guess I'm still not used to this sense of peace," he replied softly. "I'm so used to moving with the wind, never staying in one place. I cannot seem to relax when it's quiet. The last time I ever felt as peace was..."
His mind drifted back once more to his childhood, memories of him and Dante rough housing in the backyard until their mother came to call them in for dinner. Images of his father had become blurred over time - it had been so long that Vergil was starting to forget what he looked like.
He reached up to brush back loose strands of hair from his lover's face. "I had spent so long trying to figure out the kind of person my father was, wondering if I could ever hope to achieve the power he had. Now..." A shaky breath escaped him. "I worry that the same fate will fall upon us."
"It's...not the most unreasonable thing to be afraid of." Zephyr remarked, eyes becoming downcast as the potential reality of their situation hit him. "We'll grow older, maybe even have kids one day...only for history to repeat."
The melancholy seemed to linger in the air between them before Zephyr met Vergil's gaze once more. "But that doesn't mean we can let that fear control us. The future is terrifying and unknown...but never immutable. I think anyone could look us and say we defy whatever Fate had in store for us. You came back from all-consuming darkness and have your brother, your son, a family."
Zephyr took Vergil's hands into his own, brown eyes filled with determination.
"We still fight. We still live and love and worry. I'm scared as hell at the idea of living much longer than I thought I would, but I believe in us. I believe in our allies, and our dreams for brighter days. No matter what happens, I will be by side. Please trust in that when the storms approach."
A soft laugh escaped Vergil, a hand gently wrapping around Zephyr's to bring it closer. He brushed his lips along those magical fingers, leaving feather-light kisses along the knuckles.
"I have no doubt that you will prove yourself a worthy opponent," he mused, meeting the other's gaze again. "Soon, every demon will know to be wary of the one who walks beside a son of Sparda."
His expression softened, a reminder of his father's legacy that forever hung over him like a shadow, a legacy that he had tried so hard to chase but could never quite catch. Even after learning all he could, even after obtaining all of the power he could ever hope to achieve, he somehow fell short. A familiar rage boiled within him, but with a deep breath, he pushed it down until it subsided. He gave Zephyr's hand a gentle squeeze.
"Who knows? Maybe one day your own name will strike fear into the hearts of demons."
"Demons, fearing the fabled 'Witch of Red Grave'?" Zephyr chuckled, shaking his head. "Wouldn't that be something?"
Zephyr sat up then, searching Vergil's eyes for a moment before speaking once more.
"What's really going through your head, Vergil? It's a little late for second thoughts, isn't it?" He reminded, glancing down at the engagement ring on his finger. "For better or worse or absolutely hellish, I'm in this for the long haul."
He placed his free hand on the other's cheek, thumb lightly brushing over Vergil's cheekbone.
"Is everything okay?"
This Kind of Life (Closed)

"Fighting the forces of Hell or Heaven or whatever with the man that I love?" Zephyr questioned back, dark eyes falling back on Vergil's face. "I mean, we've done pretty well so far, haven't we?"
It was a joke to ease the tension, but Zephyr knew what the other man meant. What felt like a lifetime ago, he was an apothecary, helping those who found him with simple ailments and whatnot. Things changed with the Qlipoth incident, and he fell in with Dante and the others. He wasn't a healer first and foremost; he was a warrior, a crafter of spells.
A Witch, studying long-dead lessons and tapping into magic he never though possible. All because of and in service of the love he had with the man he was wrapped around.
He'd do anything to keep Vergil safe. A glance at the engagement ring on his finger made that crystal clear.
"I think just being around you and Dante and the others makes me a target. If they think they're going to take me down easily, good." Zephyr remarked as magic swirled around his fingertips for just a moment. "Let them underestimate me."
Lilia had to bite back a laugh of amused not-quite-surprise as she saw the two cards he had drawn. Rarely had she come across a reading so devastating, boldly running through all areas of life, knocking every thing back to its foundations and demanding something fresh and new be created in its place.
Depending on the person, it could be seen as terrifying or exhilarating.
"The Fool and the Ace of Swords." She lifted her gaze, brown eyes fixed on Zephyr. "Obviously it's quite the journey that lies ahead of you." Returning her gaze to the cards, she moved them into position, side by side, horizontal beside the vertical Tower.
"Together these suggest a bold beginning, a journey of transformation where the destination isn't completely clear yet. But it will bring clarity," she added, tapping the ace of swords before glancing at The Fool. "Though you will have to take chances, be careful of moving too swiftly, taking initiative without looking first. Communication," she concluded, enunciating every syllable for emphasis. "is going to be key in each step of your journey."
Zephyr moved a few curls behind his right ear, silver rings glimmering in the light of Lilia's shop. Another journey, another start, but with an emphasis on “com-mu-ni-ca-tion.” The way the woman said it earned a smile, despite the gloom the Tower brought on. “Here's hoping there are more witches like you on my journey.” He replied before exhaling.
Steady now. One last card.
The flicker of blue was quicker, brighter than it had been this entire reading. Zephyr reached for it, a thankful grin coming to his lips as he placed the card in front of Lilia. There was a sense of serenity in knowing the path ahead, in knowing that something new had to come forth.
Maybe it would lead to another move. San Francisco was on his mind a lot these days. He could be near his parents again, maybe look into some old friends. Who knew?
“Okay, card. Fuck me up, I guess.” Zephyr remarked before finally laughing, whatever tension in his frame dissolving in this moment between two witches. The sound carried on for almost half a minute, with the younger witch waving his hand in front of his face in apology.
"Sorry, sorry. I...it's a thing I say sometimes when I do a reading for myself, and woof, these cards have been brutal." He said, letting out another giggly exhale.
