☀️— To say that he was nervous was an understatement. Truthfully he'd been cautious of Vought since he had effectively stumbled onto them. He felt both devastated and violated by what had happened to Homelander - creating their own version of him to an extent. One they could control. ...But Clark also couldn't really say that he didn't understand it.

The usual easy smile wasn't on his face, instead somber. Angry underneath. Disgusted.

"Yes, I'm from Krypton. But that's not what I'm here for. I'd like to know if you know anything about whether or not Vought is planning on any similar experiments in the future."

Were they going to try it again?

Benjamin scoffed at the question, withholding saying how stupid it was. "Of course they are, but they aren't fucking using me anymore." He said blatantly. It was why he was no longer in America. As soon as he was unfrozen he got as far away from Vought as he could. They'd likely come find him, much like how Superman had, but he'd fight them off.

"I'm not helping you, not unless theres something in it for me." Soldier Boy told him simply. "You don't need my help, you're more than capable killing every single one of those bastards effortlessly. But you're a good guy, you don't want to be a murderer in the eyes of humanity. So you want to outsource the dirty work to someone like me, is that it?"

☀️-- “Youre right, I don’t want to be seen as a murderer, and I don’t want to kill them… but if that’s really the only way to solve this…”

He’d do it. He would hate every second of it, but he’d do it. Clark knew that there wasn’t always a bloodless solution as much as he tried to keep it that way.

And right now he was angry. Disgusted.

“I don’t want you to go there with me. I just want information. Whatever you can tell me about the process or even Vought itself.”

☀️— As soon as they had entered the area, Clark had realized the very same. There was too much lead in the walls for him to see though. The same went for the ceiling.

He looked over the map again. Judging by how this place looked, he'd guess it was probably the latter. Some never recorded area. Most likely on purpose. It didn't look any newer than the section that they'd just come from. Their current mission didn't exactly afford them the luxury of going back to track it from outside and see how far it spanned that way (it would have been easy to use his x-ray vision to map out the parts that got blocked out from above).

"Yeah... I noticed. I tried looking ahead when we got in here. I also can't see through the ceiling so it's the whole area." But then he grinned, laughing a little, the noise echoing against the concrete walls. "Just because I can't see through walls doesn't mean I'm useless. But sure, I guess I'm in yours and Oracles hands."

He'd trust, at the very least, Bruce with his life. Though Barbara was no slouch herself. They were both incredible - scratch that, every one of those young souls that Bruce had nurtured was incredible in their own way.

🦇—-;; Bruce is familiar enough with surprises like this to be able to just roll with it and improvise, he'd still have to be careful anyway, whatever this hidden area was, he'd have to make sure he'd be able to find his way back, in case there was only one way in. "If it exists, she'll find it. In the meantime..." He trails off, moving to set something on the wall, Clark would be able to hear it ping the devices in Bruce's ears, just twice as he tests it. The little sonar device would guide him back if he needs it, but after those first two pings, it's quiet, waiting to actually be activated. "For finding out way back if we need it."

After doing that he does turn his attention to the hallway around them, eyes scanning the walls, ceiling and floor. He is thankful that the signal that allows for his detective vision in the cowl to work stayed connected. He hopes whoever's been using this place hasn't put signal blockers down. He's going to hope it stays that way as they move in further.

"If you hear anything, let me know." He says to the other man, he didn't want any more surprises, one was enough for the night, but he won't hold his breath and hope that wasn't the case. Just because he knew better than to do that.

☀️-- Clark gave the tunnel a passing look again, staring as far down the tunnel's length as he could. Admittedly it was a little unnerving to not know what was coming next, but he could work with it. There were other ways to tell, after all.

He nodded, focusing his ears on what lay ahead. "I will."

Clark was cautious in moving farther in, flying slightly ahead, but not too far as to leave Bruce behind. Just enough to lay eyes on a little bit more of what lay ahead (the perks of telescopic vision). Of course he trusted the other man to be able to take care of himself, but why take unnecessary risks when neither of them knew what they might encounter?

"There are rats up ahead, but otherwise I don't hear anything off --" Yet only right after that he paused. "It opens up further down. It might be a chamber. It sounds like the system starts splitting off."

☀️— Clark carefully corrected his stance to what Bruce showed him. Or approximately that. He was still off by a bit, the stance awkward. Not a position he was used to putting his body in. Really, Clark wasn't used to fighting.

Fighting was practically a foreign concept outside of using his powers or putting oomph behind a hit that was most certainly not a proper punch. It was one of the areas he was lacking. He couldn't be hurt by most things, he had never prioritized knowing how to actually throw a punch of fight properly.

The stance was still off, but less so as he tried to copy what Bruce showed him. This was once thing where no matter how much power he had, he would need help to get it right.

🦇—-;; The awkwardness in Clark's stance isn't much of a surprise, given that the man isn't used to the position, he's not expecting it to be completely perfect, if only because it takes practise. Besides, Clark's stance isn't completely off, nothing that'd be a problem anyway, so he won't correct it unless he had to.

"Not bad, needs a bit of work though." Bruce says lightly. Teaching Clark how to throw a proper punch hadn't been on his agenda today, but it's a welcome distraction all things considered. Keeps his mind occupied enough he doesn't have to think about what was bothering him. Even if he knows it's only a temporary distraction at best.

He'll talk him through the next steps on the right way to throw a punch, showing him how to do it too, repeating it a few times to make sure Clark understood how he was doing it. It was some basics for now, and he's not going to teach Clark everything he knows, just because it was unnecessary, he just needed to teach him how to fight without his powers. Maybe they could really practise under the red solar lamps he has here in the cave.

☀️-- The red solar lamps were something that sat in an odd place for Clark overall. Much as he appreciated the forward thought of potentially needing to really do surgery on him or something of that sort... he wasn't so daft as to think that was the only purpose they could serve. It would need to be done in tandem with kryptonite, but they could be used to de-power him if the need ever arose.

And Bruce was just about the only person he actually trusted with those weaknesses of his. He was one of the most logical men he knew, he wouldn't hesitate if it was a necessity.

Clark shifted his stance in accordance with Bruce's advice. He practiced a few swings as he was coached. It wasn't nearly perfect, but it was at least a start.

“Is this better?”

🦇—-;; Whatever Clark's true intentions were, Bruce still thought it was a selfless act in itself. Clark isn't the only one who's offered of course, and Bruce would probably still refuse this becoming a frequent thing, but still, offering up something so important so that Bruce had other options to the preferred synthetic blood, that was the selfless part. And he'd argue the semantics with Clark if he ever mentioned them.

He stepped away for a few moments, to settle himself a bit, and to step out from under the red solar lamp for a few moments as Clark took care of everything. He turned his head slightly when Clark spoke and he nods his head slightly, silver eyes watching the man carefully for a few moments. He moved back over to Clark when he saw him trying to get back up and he huffs, "you good?" He asks.

"I'll have Alfred bring you something to eat." He says after a moment, though he probably could just bring Clark upstairs into the manor to sit in the sun for a little bit, he did figure the man needed a few minutes now before he tried to do that.

☀️-- Clark had to catch himself against the table, bracing himself with his arm. Wow. He wasn't used to that. After a moment, he nodded and just stayed put. He had never really felt this worn out before. Not since he was a child.

"Yeah. I'm good. I just need a few minutes." He glanced towards the red solar lamps. "Do you mind turning those off? I think that'll help a bit."

He would also appreciate something to eat. Clark knew that after blood draws people needed to hydrate and eating iron-rich foods were recommended. Clark was running through it in his head.

"I'm definitely going to need a moment before I try to get up. Something to eat would be great."

☀️-- Clark was putting dishes away, moving here and there around the kitchen. Until Jon tugged on his arm. They'd gone through this earlier and then Jon had brought it up again. He'd also gone to Lois to try and get his mother to say yes.

He sighed, turning to actually face Jon. Crouched slightly to be more on his level. "Well, kiddo, Bruce makes different parenting decisions from your mom and I. It's a school night. I know you want to see the movie, but it's still showing this Friday, right? I'm sure Damian will wait for you. ...And if it's not playing close by I'll take you guys. How's that?"

Negotiation might fall through, but he could at least try. Either way, it was a school night.

Jon dropped his shoulder and leaned back as he let out a groan of frustration. Why couldn't he just go? It wasn't rocket science. Premiere night, tickets, be back before 2am. Not a hard concept to understand at all. But his dad insisted on being super lame and not letting him go. Damian was so lucky his dad didn't care as much.

Jon rubbed his face before dragging his bottom eyelids down and stomping a foot.

"But Dad! The opening night is the best night! I want to watch it before everybody else in my class." He said, releasing his eyes, then rubbing his temples. He was losing his patience and his anger was reaching a boiling point. "The most annoying kid in class, Joey, always spoils movies. He texts everyone the videos he takes from his theatre seat. I want to watch it before he does, so I don't have sit in class and listen to him go on and on about the best parts."

Jon placed his hands on his dad's shoulders and tried to shake him.

"Do you know how many times he's done it, Dad? DOZENS, DAD! DOZENS! I can't take it anymore! You have to let me see it! And it might just be the first and last time I get to spend with Damian. He's been so busy."

☀️— Clark hummed as he was shaken. Well that did sound like a problem. He could remember those days himself where that sort of thing seemed bigger than it actually was.

“You know, I’d be surprised if he had the number of every kid in your class,” he said gently. “I know it doesn’t solve the in school problem, but you could block his number if you don’t want him messaging you. Your mom or I could help you with that. And I think that if it’s a school night premier, Joey’s parents might just be thinking the same way as we are. It premiers tomorrow right? It’ll be Thursday so they’ll probably want him to wait for Friday or Saturday too.”

But that wasn’t the primary thing the boy was worrying about it seemed. Clark reached out to set a hand on Jons shoulder now. “It won’t be the last time you get to spend time Damian. I can promise that. If you call him and ask him to wait to see the movie with you, I’m sure he’ll talk with his dad and figure things out. You’re both busy with things right now, but I don’t think Bruce will say no if you both want to arrange times to meet up. You can hang out still together, it might just take a little more work and planning is all.”

He wished he could say that it would get easier as he got older… but this was just part of growing up. It got tricker to get together with friends as one got older even if it seemed like it should get easier.

☀️-- Clark had offered to take Dick for a little while to get him out of Gotham and give Bruce some time to deal with something that the boy couldn't help with. Or rather, that Bruce didn’t want him trying to help with. …Or Clark for that matter from the way things had been phrased.

He wasn’t wearing his hero suit when he arrived at the manor. Jeans and a rolled up flannel - perhaps stereotypically farmhand, but as much as he could be removed from the country, the country couldn’t be removed from him.

Making his landing, Clark walked over to the young teen.

“Hey, Dick, you ready to go? All packed?”

Dick looked Clark up and down. He couldn't remember ever seeing the man dressed like this— Clark was usually dressed as Superman or for his day job. Dick wasn't sure what to make of it. Slacks and a buttoned up shirt wouldn't make sense in the country, that much he knew. But that was about the extent of his knowledge when it came to farms. He knew slightly more about Clark's family, but it was largely still a mystery to him beyond what he could piece together from comments the man had made.

"Good to go," Dick nods. "Alfred said to bring boots."

He had a pair of work boots, which he was wearing now. They had mostly been relegated to the occasional hike for survivalist training with Bruce or when he needed to cover up a questionable bruise on his ankle at school.

☀️-- Clark grinned at the expression on Dick's face. It only just dawned on him that Dick had never seen him outside of his work suits or hero suit. The boy was, in all honesty; about to learn a whole lot more about him than most people knew.

The only reason he had offered was because he knew that his parents would enjoy having a kid in the house again for a little while.

"That's definitely some good advice." Then he glanced towards the manor. He could see Alfred watching through a window. Making sure that Dick got off safely. “And you’ve got clothes you don’t mind getting dirty?“

He wanted to make sure that all of the boxes were ticked even if it didn’t mean much to make quick trip back for anything Dick needed. And with those assurances made and boxes ticked —

Clark picked Dick up. “Let’s get going then.”

☀️-- It was the way that his own father had helped him learn. Of course, in time, Clark would show Jon the other ways he'd trained. For now it was this: catch.

"All right, try again. I'm sure you can throw it even softer this time." Clark tossed the ball back gently. Teaching Jon how to control his budding powers was important. Getting him used to being gentle with them.

"Okay! I guess I can try again..." Jon said, catching the ball. There was no way he could make it go any slower. The last time he threw it, it set on fire from speed and took a chunk out of an old tree (one of the oldest) in Pa's backyard. His grandpa never got angry with him, but it didn't help Jon feel less guilty. Lots of apologies and promises to be more gentle.

Jon was focused that time. His grandpa was watching from the porch and he couldn't embarrass himself in front of his favorite person in the world.

Really focused. REALLY FOCUSED!

Jon pivoted his body and released the ball. Unfortunately, it didn't even reach Clark's hand. The ball went two feet in front of Jon before plopping down into the grass. Despite of the family tell him it was okay, Jon stomped his foot, then rubbed his face aggressively. He cursed in Kryptonian < KYTH- > before he stormed towards the wheat fields.

"SCREW THIS! I quit!"

☀️— Clark thought the gamification of training was going well. Until Jon stormed off with a curse and a yell as he failed to throw the ball all the way to him. He glanced back at his own father was was still lazily rocking on one of the porch chairs. Maybe it was the pressure of being observed. Maybe he shouldn't have used the phrase 'try again'...

It could be as simple as feeling frustrated with being so unable to control his powers the way he was being asked to. Clark could remember feeling frustrated when he was about Jon's age for similar reasons. But Jon was also... a lot more volatile than Clark had been. His powers were a lot more shaky. It made trying to train them harder. He looked back after the boy, watching him stomp out through the wheat.

"I'd give 'im a few b'fore ya go after 'im," the elder man advised. "You'll make it worse if yer too quick about it."

Clark hesitated. He gave it three or five minutes before he slowly headed off until he spotted Jon.

"Hey, kiddo." He landed gently by the boy. His voice was soft. "You did amazing. It's hard to make them do what you want them to, huh? I'm sorry I forgot what that's like."

☀️— Two months and who knew how Dick had been faring in that time. It certainly didn't seem well just by the state of him right now. Watching him struggle to eat and drink made Clark's stomach twist. He was covered in dirt and grime and he probably hadn't had anything close to a bath or a warm bed in those two months. Clearly he hadn't been eating or drinking decently.

It seemed a miracle that the younger man had made it to his door.

Maybe just a bit too quickly, Clark put a hand on Dick's shoulder though he put no pressure on it. It was only to keep him from trying to stand.

"I can tell him," he replied softly. "You focus on eating a little more and resting. I'll get a bath going and we can go in the morning. You should get some sleep first."

Dick flinches when Clark reaches for him. The jerk of his shoulder sends a small wave of pain through his body. Slowly, he leans forward to meet Clark's hand, forcing a shuddering breath into a laugh.

"Guess I forgot how fast you can be," he says. The smile he attempts does not reach his eyes.

If he can just shower and sleep, he'll be able to shake it off. In the morning he can get to work, and the fear will subside. It has to. He shakes his head to try and clear it.

"We should at least call him or something?" His voice is small. He can't imagine what that conversation will be like.

☀️-- Clark himself flinched slight when Dick did. He pulled his hand back as the younger jerked away.

"Sorry... I'll move slower. Are you all right?" Carefully he let his hand meet Dick's shoulder again, this time far more aware of how quickly he was moving. The forced laugh and smile made his chest ache and his stomach twist:

He hesitated for a moment at the question. Clark knew that they should call him as soon as possible, but Dick also needed time to rest and at least get somewhat back on his feet again. Calling Bruce would start a whole new bout of shuffling. It wasn’t a matter of wanting to keep Bruce in the dark or anything of the sort. It was that Clark wanted to give Dick some breathing room all things considered.

“Is that what you want to right now? We can call, I’m sure he’s awake.”

   “Dude. You just spilled piping hot coffee on yourself without so much as a flinch.” He points out, grinning from ear-to-ear while being far too caught up in his own excitement. “And what’s with the glasses?” Before he could answer, the teen has already swiped it off his face, studying it like a child would with a toy.

   ...Okay, so maybe he shouldn’t be calling the Superman a " dude " — but if he didn’t know any better, he definitely would have thought he was just some regular ol’ guy! Luckily, he does know better than that. In fact, he couldn’t be any more sure of himself. He’s double—no, triple-sure of it!

☀️-- Clark almost grit his teeth he was holding his jaw so tight, trying to shake his head as subtly as possible. Trying to get it across with his eyes: right person, but not right here. He was still stunned, but was now left scrambling to try and make sure his identity wasn't --

The kid swiped his glasses right off his face --!

"Hey! I need those. Can you give them back?" Then he spoke under his breath, sure that the teen could hear him. "Not in a crowd."

☀️— Clark could we it on Dick's face before the younger man leapt. However, before he could say anything more or ask Dick to wait, he was falling though the air. Caught himself on a ledge below. Clark stared after, hesitating as Dick crouched there.

He wanted to say something. To go after him... but maybe Dick just needed some time alone.

Of course, Clark also knew that he'd overstepped. He'd known it as he was speaking that that might not go over well. It was sensitive for both of them.

Still, against his better judgement he flew down.

"Dick," he sighed, "I'm not saying that you being upset doesn't mean anything."

"It doesn't mean anything," Dick scoffs. "I made a mistake and he let me go. Doesn't matter how I feel about it."

He glances downward, considering making another escape. He stays for the time being, elbows resting on his knees, but still doesn't look to Clark. Dick pulls into himself, hands resting on his upper arms. He circles the spot where the Joker shot him absentmindedly with his thumb.

☀️-- Clark wanted to say that it did matter how Dick felt about it, but he didn't know if the younger man would listen to him. He watched Dick curl up into himself, clearly contemplating making another escape but ultimately deciding to stay put. And again Clark thought that maybe he should just go to give him more space.

"It matters to me," he replied softly.
