Face Transplant Candidate 2014 

I am interested in how our society has constructed value around skin and around appearance.  Something with no actual value, like skin texture and color become signifiers of social status, and affect how we are treated and viewed. How are we implicit in and how do we reconstruct beauty and the commodification and exoticism of bodies to create an acceptance of all bodies?  My experience with my father after his facial skin-graft surgery, my relationship to my queer body, and my relationship to paint and color lead me to confront the gaze, to confront the adversities of physical difference, and to question difference as justification for hierarchy.
