(..) Kimimi reached out at Zero suddenly, turning from the three opposing Pokemon to him with a water-like fluidity. She aimed to give him a scolding chop against his temple. (..)
Suddenly, Zero's head met with a firm chop to his head and he shook with the force slightly. It forced him to look at her as more of a separate being out of the crowd there, especially since he hadn't seen the action coming at all.
With the mawile whipping up a protective wind, it gave them precious seconds though the nidorino shook it off easily. The trio's trainers snickered, confident in being able to deal with the steel fairy. The sandslash and aipom were ordered to act as support while the nidorino was the vanguard.
"Give it a Double Kick!" the trainer said, who judging by the even more exaggerated decor on his outfit was likely also the leader in the group.
Zero wasn't concerned for their safety at this point in time and so didn't answer further, letting the white-haired lady focus on the imminent threat. Instead, he noticed that the shadow that had become very familiar to him in a short time, was positioned below the gang-members who had yet to engage in battle. The alley was dark to begin with and so the shadow possessed a blackness even darker. Gradually, a smile had begun to form. How? Was it an illusion? A chill overcame the 4 people positioned over it. They instinctively peeked downwards. The image below them was of a gaping maw, with teeth uneven, sharp and ugly. It was all a hint of a horrible mouth but it came across clearly to them within their minds. Their eyes widened as they were unable to grasp what they were seeing and why.
Then, clawed shadow-hands grabbed their feet with such real force--
"AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH-----!!!"
One of them screamed as the coldness felt too real. It in turn infected the other 3 and they joined in the fear, making the image below even more solid. They began to scramble and the hands chasing their feet, tripping them up unnerved them further. Overtaken by the atmosphere, they disappeared from the alley in a hurry. Just as the shadow began to emerge from the ground and taking on the recognizable shape of a sableye.
"Wahahahahahaha!" Zero laughed in an unrestrained manner, falling on his back with a reverberating thunk of the dumpster.

She looked over her shoulder to Zero, already reaching for Onoir’s Pokeball in her bag. “Y-you may have been co-content to leave t-things be before…but I b-believe it’d be for both our in-interests if you contributed n-now…”
It was getting fairly chaotic and in turn more amusing. Zero's neck still felt somewhat uncomfortable but he let it be and even smiled lightly as he scanned over the layout of the alley.
"Can't believe you got your arm broken by a kid," someone from the gang snickered behind the injured woman. She was displeased; with the bone in her arm just cracked badly. With two others surrounding her, that left three delinquents to draw a pokéball each, standing in a semi-circle around Zero and Kimimi.
At this point, the girl's suggestion resounded and Zero took it into consideration. "Things are fairly interesting as is though," he chuckled.
As he did, the three released their pokémon: an aipom, a nidorino and a sandslash. The pokémon shared quick glances, confirming each other's presence - a sign they're used to fighting side-by-side.
The shadow from before slinked off to behind the three trainers.

He had just noticed he’d let go of Kimimi, who was now heading towards Zero and his potential assailant. Gritting his teeth, the thug reached for a Pokeball in his pocket, completely unaware of the shadow lurking about…
While part of the gang were focused on the ruckus caused by the girl coming his way, another part were now witnessing the shaven-head woman holding on to his throat.
Now, Zero was no stranger to violence and he fully expected for it to come his way too. However, as he eyed his assailant intently, he could feel her tension mounting.
"Hey, stop that--!" one other in the gang called out as her grip began to tighten. Of course there was the girl coming over and he could leave it to her but he quickly decided that doing something himself would be the quicker option. It was getting tough to breathe and since dying wasn't a thing he wanted to experience at this time, he chose to take action.
Firmly seated on the dumpster, he raised his legs. One foot began pushing at the woman's elbow while another pushed against her forearm from the opposite side. The motions were swift and suddenly Zero was the assailant, beginning to break her arm. No, there was a crack already and quickly the woman let go, holding on to her limb and stifling moans of pain.
As Zero sat there, coughing, he noticed that the lady's previous captor was pulling out a pokéball as the others began to pile around her closely.

"—Ahh, excuse m-me, perhaps you wouldn't m-m-mind giving me a bit of a h-hand?" Kimimi called past the thugs with a soft grin.
They all turned in surprise to see the brightly dressed spectator just standing there; the hell did he come from? “Uhh…H-hey! Make sure he doesn't squeal on us too!”
Zero caught the lady's eyes and returned a grin of his own. "Nah, don't have any." It was the dumbest and most common joke he has encountered over the years but that didn't stop him from reveling in the idiocy and the reactions people had to it.
The thugs didn't know what to make of him, that much was clear. His small size and apparent disability didn't make him much of a threat and he didn't seem interested in finding anyone else to assist the girl. The guy just sat there, now legs dangling over the edge of the dumpster in a carefree manner.
A rough-looking woman with a partly shaved head approached him though to make sure he didn't get any ideas. Zero appraised her happily for a moment but in the end was more interested in seeing how the rest of the gang will react when faced with this unusual light-haired prey they had chosen. His nonchalant attitude, so reminiscent of the girl, ticked off the woman who, with a sharp motion, reached and grabbed his throat. Meanwhile, a shadow was creeping in the alley.
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

"If you’re f-finished now, I will be taking m-my leave." Kimimi smiled gently at the group of 7 or so men and women, They were all sharply dressed, but not so much in the classical sense. Their outfits, their hair, their piercings, whatever they could get their hands on, were threateningly pointy and made their frames look even larger than normal. They barred most of her way out of the alley, and sneered at the young woman all the while. But Kimimi hardly seemed bothered by the turn of events, as she stood there with back straight, and hands gingerly placed in front of her. It was dark and dank in this alley way, and she couldn’t see the moon peeking through the dome. …How had it come to this? She was no stranger to the cities, with all their lights and hustle’n’bustle. Though she realized that perhaps visiting for a day or two alongside her mother was a bit different than traveling on her own. Kimimi, while traversing the ins and outs of the Nyx Oasis, had gotten lost…And what did they say about little lambs and wolves? "Now c’mon, we just tryin’ to be friendly ‘ere," snickered one of the thugs. "You’re new to these parts, aren’t ‘cha?" "Lots of surly types like ta’ take advantage of newcomers. ‘specially ones who don’t know how dangerous these streets can be at night~" Kimimi didn’t blink, and her grin was still like stone. “Is that so.” "Yeah yeah! But WE can help ‘ya." "Oh, suuuure. We can make sure you don’t see any trouble tonight, provided you’re willing to pay for our, ahh, services." Another round of snarky chuckles. "Thank you for t-t-the offer, but I shan’t be needing it," Kimimi responded plainly, and went to move around them. One made a grab for her wrist and pulled her back, but they weren’t met with the usual scream of terror or whimpering, teary gaze. Instead, they found the young woman looking straight at them with clear, almost piercing eyes. Her smile widened and with a soft voice, she said, "I think it w-w-would do you well to l-let go. It’s rude." "T-tch—! Just hand over your wallet, damn it!" She was no lamb. zero-goblin
You see this kind of thing from time to time: one attacking another to satisfy whatever urge they have at the time. Sometimes it's a need to assert dominance, feel in control, to get a sense of superiority over the peaceful masses. But they still sought others who understood them no matter their moral compass.
Zero was seeing something like that happen at that very moment. They were a group of people, connected by their own set of truths, harassing a young lady essentially for sport. But the best part of the show and his true reason for sitting perched atop a nearby dumpster was that said lady took it all pretty calmly.
He had few memories of Nyx as he didn't live here long and never came back since as his caretakers were needlessly concerned for his mental well-being. The chance to visit was given by becoming a trainer and getting a pokémon. And so doing this and that, he was enjoying the sights and the people. Spotting this scene, taking advantage of his litheness, he got closer undetected by the gang.
Whether the lady or the gang will spot him was unimportant so the vantage point and his bright clothing weren't a problem. He let matters take their course and continued observing quietly. If there was any concern, it was about whether his fun-loving sableye would stay in the shadows just as quietly with his gleaming eyes peering from a gap.

Zero hadn't thought about getting a pokémon before. Though he had experience with them over the years and had some of them help him out with various tasks, he never felt like he needed one that was loyal to him alone. You can always manage with what's nearby.
“So your favorite type is Ghost? How ghastly! Your view on the world is practically in your name: neutrality. You believe in life following a course of destined events and you are merely an observer. You do play a more active role occasionally if the script needs it. With the guidance of the stars, I believe Sableye is the best partner for you! I hope you two have a long lasting companionship!”
That's what the professor said. Zero didn't believe in fate or destiny but whatever means the labcoat used to determine what his first personal pokémon should be, the results were satisfying and he felt like maybe there was something written in the stars for him. He played with the idea a bit but soon moved on to getting to know his sableye.
It was a funny creature with a toothy grin and a hobbling, swaying walking motion. It hopped around and investigated the armless youth for a while but its interest didn't last since he didn't do much to respond. Nothing for it - the ghost wandered off in search of a mineral deposit.
Curious to see what it'll do, Zero followed him earnestly. It might have been bothered at first but since he didn't do anything but watch, it soon paid him no mind and kept going.
While crunching on some gems in a small cave, another person appeared. It was a traveler. A tall young man dressed in black. It had began raining, the sableye noted, and the stranger was dripping wet.
The grin on sableye's face stretched even further across its face as it melded with the darkness and slid towards the unsuspecting victim. The man was already nervous about being here and tried to ease the tension by rubbing his hair in an attempt to dry it. But the tension remained. It kept getting colder. Shivers began running down his spine with new fervor. He shot a glance into the depths of the dark cave and-- spotted colours?
He called out weakly at which point Zero finally revealed himself. Edna seemed relieved to find that he was likely only sensing this person's presence. However, when Zero walked up to him, there was still an eerie feeling lingering in the air.
Meeting a new person, Zero was being civil and mostly listened and observed though this individual, named Edna, wasn't much for talking a lot. Was there something here? Zero assured him that he was imagining things. Did you hear that? No, Zero said he didn't. It's just the wind and rain.
And yet still, there was definitely something. Edna looked around nervously, his eyes finally adjusted to the dark. There were still corners that were concealed and not knowing what they hide made his heart race. Zero merely laughed and kept an upbeat attitude. Perhaps Edna was being paranoid...
Two glimmers behind Zero appeared. Edna's eyes widened as he stared right at them. His body froze as the shadows around those lights moved and beneath them sharp teeth started taking shape. Zero asked whether anything was wrong. Edna raised a shaky hand to point. After turning around, the shorty turned back to face him with a puzzled look.
"Nothing's there."
Huh?
The terrifying face was still there and it got closer until it revealed its small, eerie stature and stood next to Zero. Edna flattened against the cave wall behind him and kept pointing, unable to think or form coherent words. Zero looked at the sableye but then returned the same puzzled look again.
"What are you pointing at?"
That ghost pokémon was definitely there. The sableye grinned, seemingly satisfied by Edna's horrified expression that grew even more panicked with the realization that he might be seeing things. Has he blown a circuit? At last has the mental strain turned out to be too much? He tried to stutter out what was happening.
"Huh? Are you okay? It's safe here."
The sableye began to cackle. It started closing in; swaying, hobbling walk. Edna screamed and ran out into the rain.
Zero laughed and kept laughing and was soon joined by the prankster standing before him. "You're something of a goblin, I think," he calmed down and said.
