What do you value? What is the life you want to live?
I created a list of my values (spirituality, sustainablility, creativity, productivity, organization, and self care to name a few) and then I created a list of concrete actions to put in place TODAY that are molded around what I value.
For example, meditation, yoga, and nightly walks embody my values of spirituality and self care. Fasting and no spend days are for sustainablility and spirituality.
So often we get caught up in dreaming about the life we want to live and the person we aspire to be but never actually do anything.
Let’s jump in feet first.
This is a weed appreciation post
Dandelions
Yellow and happy. Super strong and resilient. Everyone hates them and they don’t care. Makes a good “kick” in garden salads.
White Clover
Small and gentle. Always has 50 friends around them. Little dots of white and pink. Looks like a Faerie would turn it into a dress
Pigweed
BIG BOI. When I was little I used to think they looked like pot. So green and strong and taller than me.
Creeping Charlies
Bees love them! Blue! Happy! Gets absolutely everywhere! I’ve never loved something so annoying! Just look at them
Burdock
SCARY BOI. Her mom thinks she’s going through a phase. But it’s NOT a phase.
St John’s Wart
So pretty! And yellow! It reminds me of Daffodils! Old doctors would use it as a medicine because it was the old times!
Dandelions (Again)
MAGIC AND GRANTS WISHES. PUFF. HAPPY POM POMS. LOOKS LIKE BURDOCK AFTER HER EMO PHASE
There will be more. I love weeds
Disney now owns most zoos!! Why is nobody talking about this!!
Hey so I work at a zoo, and I just found out that Disney now owns the AZA.
The AZA (Association of Zoos & Aquariums) is an organization that sets high standards for animal care, emphasizes conservation, funds scientific studies and spearheads hundreds of rare species breeding programs to help out wild populations. A large emphasis is placed on education programs and the ability to teach the public about what is happening to our world.
Any zoo that is a part of the association is doing everything that it can to help save our planet, and is a “good zoo.” Members include the San Diego Zoo, Bronx Zoo, Cincinnati Zoo, Georgia Aquarium, pretty much any zoo that has endangered animals in it. They are trusted to look after these rare creatures because of the care they put in and the high standards of medical care and create stimulating and healthy environments.
Where does Disney factor in, you might ask? It now owns the AZA. How could a massive corporation influence the ecological education of the next generation of children? It could be mostly benign, like our guidelines for teaching about African Lions last week that parallel the release of the Lion King movie. OUR ZOO DOESN’T EVEN HAVE LIONS IN IT. But it leaves an ominous presence that is in the back of my mind when I educate the public. Where will the corporation draw the line?
Please continue to visit the zoos, because each institution is putting money to good use finding research and feeding rare animals, but beware the beast of corporate America.
Things are fucky, y’all.

You are presented with a choice.
You have the choice, every day, to be sustainable or not.
You have the choice to throw something away or recycle it properly.
You have the choice to make your own product or simply rebuy what you used up.
You have the choice to go with what the world tells you, or to break out against is easy and what is right.
Zero waste is hard. It goes against what society around us is telling us. It forces us to look past the billboards and the ads and the infinite voices screaming at us and telling us what to do.

Plastic Free July!
Let’s talk about some ways we can live plastic free this July!!
Try and avoid buying food wrapped in plastic.
Instead of buying a carton of milk, buy some nuts or oats and make your own!
Instead of buying veggies that are shrink wrapped or in plastic cartons, opt for ones that are not. (Instead of strawberries buy some peaches, or something like that!)
If you really want those strawberries, pick your own!! Find an orchard in your area.
And bring your own bags!!
Use a reusable water bottle.
Don’t opt for plastic water bottles. Get a stainless steel reusable one instead!
If you live on wellwater, try to find a filter you can use.
Remember, your health is priority, so if you need to buy a filter that has plastic packaging, that’s ok. One filter package is better than 2,000 water bottles.
Try not to buy cleaning supplies.
Not only are they toxic for you and your household, they always come in plastic packaging.
Make your own with 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water and a drop of soap!
Use bar soap when you can. (This includes shampoo!!)
Don’t use shaving cream. Use suds from your soap or conditioner.
Use peroxide/baking soda to brush your teeth with a bamboo toothbrush!
Pets.
It’s often hard to go zero waste/plastic free with pets.
Cat poo has very harmful bacteria that can cause all sorts of health problems. If you can, let your cat outside to potty. But otherwise, go ahead and toss his litter in the trash.
When you walk your dog, try and let him potty in bushes, or use a paper bag when you can.
It’s okay to throw away plastic when you need to, like if it’s for your dog’s poo.
Try and find ways to recycle/reuse/upcycle the big dog and cat food bags. What else can you use it for?
I understand this is a nonexhaustive list. I want to make more posts expanding on these, so keep an eye out!
Happy July!
