This is spectacularly not a heritage post, but my boyfriend wants to vote for it so I suppose I will as well.

Why would I be behind it? I'm not necessarily keen on trapping others in a closed room with a ticking time bomb for a Ruby. I was... Actually hoping she wouldn't have any chances to get near you again but I should have known that the hope was futile.

(He pauses and awkwardly redirects his attention elsewhere)

(The Ruby lights up and Phantom's voice proceeds to echo throughout the room)

(The Ruby glows brighter, red light spilling out into every crevice of the room as a high pitched white noise claws it's way past the sound barrier and nestles it's way into his head

(He stares down at the Ruby, hands planted firmly on his ears as the ringing fades out)

[he's now walking angrily to Finite]

(Her illusion finally manifests itself Infront of him, a smug smile on her face)

Go ahead! If I get removed Finite has a 0 percent survival rate! Be my Guest.

(Finite has not moved an inch, his eyes unfocused as he gets lost in thought about something)

[his ruby glows and he walks through Phantom, ruby energy fields annihilating each other, he's hellbent on whatever he's planning]

I'm going to free him from you.

(She stares, her expression hard to read and yet it holds a sort of disappointment in it)

Ooh, so we're not doing it the hard way then?

(Despite her flickering illusion she still manages to walk up behind Infinite and place a hand on his shoulder)

I was hoping you'd at least make this interesting for me, y'know?

(Her grip tightens, allowing her claws to sink past his fur)

But oh well

[immediately he teleports a whole meter away, losing his focus on ruby energy and thus any effect on phantom]

How did you-

[he was not expecting Phantom to be even able to approach him anymore, his ears pin down and he looks at her aggressively... but the way his tail is frustratingly moving... no it's not frustration... maybe Finite can sense it... it's fear]

(She stands there as still as a ghost, a smile akin to Eggman's forming on her face)

What's wrong, Infinite? I thought we were having fun.

(In a flash of red she disappeared, only for the cubes to dance along the air and reform right behind Infinite)

Don't you wanna save em? Come on! I won't bite That hard.

(Something feels wrong.)

Just stay right where you are and it'll Alllll be over soon.

(Something is trying to reach out towards your Ruby to wrap it's claws around it to take over it to connect to it)

(As Finite slowly lifted his head up to properly see what was happening he immediately went stiff, the fear in the other jackal's eyes sparking something inside of him

Something that only allowed him to whisper one word)

Run

[Infinite doesn't hesitate, and he sprints towards Finite charging up ruby energy on his hands, but he's not focused enough, it's not enough, why is it never enough why am I NOT ENOUGH WHY CANT I SAVE THIS ONE JACKAL? WHY CAN'T I DO ANYTHING RIGHT?!]

[infinite's thoughts were taking over his mind, closing his eyes he crashes against Finite and wraps his arms around him tightly, spreading the thin cancelling aura across his own body in an attempt to weaken Finite's ruby]

[because of the momentum, they might've crashed against the floor]

(Phantom's illusion began to flicker sporadically once more, simply watching them from the spot where Infinite used to be)

Hm, well that sure was anticlimactic.

(The feeling of Phantom's energy clawing at your Ruby seems to have faded

Although there's still hints of... Something there)

I mean I was kinda hoping for more action. But eh, I'll take what I can get.

(Even though she doesn't seem too bothered by the fact her attempts were cut short- Finite let out a slightly choked whine of pain that he immediately tried to bite back)

Ooh! Sounds like an old wound opened back up! Heh, ok I change my mind this is still fun.

Crap. CRAP. CRAPCRAPCRAPCRAPCRAPCRAP

[Infinite holds Finite really close, shielding him with his tail]

No, no, don't you dare die on me.

[he's panicking again, his eyes quickly move across the room trying to look for something to help him, unfortunately the room seems empty, and he can't focus his ruby to treat Finite without losing his grip on keeping Phantom away]

Not again, not this again, don't you dare die on my arms again

(He went completely still, his eyes wide as he recognized that look of panic, that look of fear that felt so familiar to him. For a moment he completely ignored the pain in favor of gently headbutting the other jackal)

I'm not going to die, the wound isn't grievous.

(Finite's tail started softly wagging although it seemed more like he was just trying to comfort him, a familiar gesture to ease his worries)

It won't happen again, I promise.

[Infinite's eyes kept shaking, tears kept building up on them, his grip on Finite tightened as he tried to pull the jackal ever closer to him like a parent would to their child]

it... won't...?

[he blinked twice trying to ground his mind into reality again, feeling Finite's soft fur, the gentle headbutt, hearing his tail wag, this was so familiar, he had done this before... but back then, he wasn't the one being comforted]

it... won't.

[Infinite inhaled air deep in, and a triumphantly exhaled out. Having closed his eyes, he opened them again, determination burned through them, he managed to stand up carrying Finite gently]

You don't need to fake for me, I know you're not feeling anything that'd make you wag your tail or even headbutt me.

I suppose I underestimated you, you might be physically frail at first sight, but you seem to be stronger in ways I am not.

(He huffs a little at that, slightly diverting his eyes once Infinite regained composure)

Perhaps not but I did want you to know that you weren't going to lose anyone, not this time.

although I wouldn't consider myself strong by any means, not after all my mistakes and my... Failures.

(Phantom started clapping her hands together, an almost patronizing sound)

I think your issue is that you truly believe you can't be strong because you failed once. But I've learned those two factors aren't related.

It's your inability to believe in yourself what sets you back, but I truly think you might be strong in a way i was never.

You reached out to help me. I... don't think I would've done that if the case was Inverted.

I suppose I might still have some growing to do.

I mean I'll admit our last interaction was pleasant but- But I don't want to assume their opinion of me solely based off of them acting cordial. I'm most likely still seen as a monster and I don't believe that there's anything that could possibly change that-
