Things aren’t easy when so much has been unsaid between her and Weiss, though, and it’s going to get worse before it gets better. Chapter Summary: Team RWBY consolidate their leads and come up with a plan of attack. Yang and Blake’s conflict only escalates, and it turns out Weiss isn’t the only Schnee in town.
Ruby’s semblance was red-electric in her veins as she hit the ground running, the world reduced to the thunder of her pulse in her ears, the rasp of her breath, the roll and crack of lightning overhead as it lit up the night sky above them. The rain plastered her hair in her eyes as she banked hard to make the final turn up their street, her boots skidding in the treacherous mix of grit, oil and water on the road.
The freezing air burned in her lungs as she scrambled to right herself, and out of the corner of her eye, through the near-blinding splatter of the rain, Ruby caught the tell-tale white glow of glyphs. Her breath caught, ragged and desperate, and she drew deeper on her semblance until it thrilled in her blood, the smell of roses drowning out the rain.
Just a note to say that there will be no Building a Reprise update this weekend! The rough draft has been knocked out, but work has been a killer this week.
Unless I work some sort of productivity miracle this weekend (which could happen so who knows) we’re looking at least Wednesday next week.
But on the plus side, I have some time off over Easter so perhaps we’re looking at some fast updates? ;D

I was wondering if you could perhaps give your opinion on a writer problem I'm having. Last year I did the NaNoWriMo thing, mostly, by hand. Now I'm in a place where I want to go back and type up everything as a second draft. I'm a bit worried about falling into the: "Well I'm just going to type it word for word with slight changes and that's a second draft!" mindset as I go instead of making necessary changes that will actually develop it more. Any advice?
Hello anon, sorry it's taken me a few days to get around to this. I wanted to give your question some thought, and I've also been a little preoccupied with the rush to get a Valentine's Day fic at least passable, haha. I've never really had the experience of writing a whole fic out by hand as a done and dusted thing--for me I've only ever written in chunks, and then tidied them up/razed them and salted the earth as an active work in progress. I usually have a pretty good feel for the thematic composition I want, and an idea of the structure of the story I need it to take to get from my initial starting point to the end. I guess what often helps me is (honest to god) simplified cause/effect outlines for the events of the story, and word clouds. This helps me be more critical of scenes that may not have either the correct spin or even deserve its place.But ultimately I write fic, which is intended to be fun! I'd treat original fic with more care than I do fic, unless it was a long fic with a pretty original concept. Last thing--maybe try a beta reader? Do you know if you can ask any of your friends? If it's fic, can you ask around fandom? But that would involve typing it up, with the more drastic revisions left for discussion when it gets to a point where they can be expected to read it!

Hi zerrat.. I just want to ask do you still plan on writing Fangxlightning fics?
Sorry anon, no idea when you sent this ask but allow me to answer late - no further plans for FLight/FangRai etc as all good things must come to an end. Also my ability to write is a crumbling, desiccated husk these days so there is also that to contend with. :(Things are feeling less painful on some days however, less... hollow. But it fluctuates between glimmers of hope and soul sucking despair that I seem to have lost something that used to make me so damn happy.

I keep trying to figure out which tumblr you’re talking about - @zerratwritesstuff or @wip-it which both have seen activity since July last year - but yeah I haven’t been active lately.
The big reason for this is that I’ve burned myself out on writing so severely I don’t know if I can do it any more. There’s a lot of shit involved in that - a failure to measure up to my own impossible demands of myself, that writing in and of itself has become impossibly linked with a lot of mental anguish and self loathing. And yet, so much of my identity for so many years has been “writer”.
I’ve been putting off posting about it for a long time, because this is very painful for me.
I pretty much need to make an effort of rehabilitating this desiccated husk of a hobby, but so far I haven’t had the courage to challenge the sick feeling in my stomach. :(
I’m not looking for sympathy or help. This is only something I can challenge.

When One awoke the following day, it was to a still room, the pulled drapes only permitting slivers of the midday sun to fall against the thick, woven rug by her side of the bed. A series of sharp knocks punctuated the sudden awareness, and shooting up in bed, One turned to find the space next to her empty, the sheets left askew.
Five. One let herself exhale, still half-expecting Five to return at any moment, slipping in from the bathroom to run her fingers through One’s hair, to quip about how worries hounded her even in dreams, a steady reassurance there was no way…
But Five’s side of the bed was cold, the familiar beat of her song absent. One’s fingers ghosted over the thin curve of her lips, her neck prickling with the remembered sensation of Five’s mouth.
It was only the repeated rap of knuckles against the door, insistent and demanding, that gave One the anchor to pull herself from her thoughts, and hoarsely, she called, “Enter.”
