Misa, who works as the best maid in a maid cafe, finds Light almost immediately after he gets the death note, and becomes a massive nuisance to him. So as any normal person would, he kills her (WHAT!) before she can do too much damage.

Rem appears and tells him that death would be entirely too merciful for him, and instead makes him go take Misa’s place at the maid cafe.

Unwilling to die as he still wishes to bring about The New World, he takes the job, however the manager says nobody would want to come see a boy (early 2000s cringe) and has him dress as a girl under an alias- Hikari Yumi. He soon after joins the task force.

L, who has begun to frequent this cafe since coming to Japan (for the food, as it’s the best cafe in the area, not especially for the maids) happens to come in during one of Light’s shifts and recognizes Light immediately, but doesn’t acknowledge this.

They begin a long game of cat and mouse yet again and here during their larger rivalry in the task force and as L and Kira.

P.S. help I’ve cringe and I can’t get up .
