+ She freezes, hand on the door, gun hanging by her side. He’s wrapped up like a burn victim, the ghost of first crushes past and every single inch of him doesn’t sit right. This shadowed chunk of food poisoning looks at her and holds his hands up and she chokes back the urge to put six bullets in his neck and walk it off. Just swerving for butterflies, nothing in the medbay to deserve her attention.

“What happened to you.”

There! There. That’s a reasonable question. That’s fair. That’s allowed. She doesn’t move an inch, even as the grating strain of the metal door against her fingertips begins to drone through the silence.

   “You ask that as if something terrible happened-- do you have any other terrible questions, or are you just gonna stand there and look funny?”

one blink and his attention is focused elsewhere, muted green glancing around between them when she loses his initial interest; she becomes a part of the scenery when his feet mindlessly kick out in front of him, hands wrapping themselves in gauze as he tugs. 

   “Scratch that, it’d probably be better if you stayed quiet! It’s hard to remember stuff when people are talking to you.”
