So I was sitting in church yesterday and we turned to study Luke 2. Little did I know that it would relate so well to Classical Civilizations! At the moment that we read Luke 2:1, @the-ancient-world and I started furiously elbowing each other. It is so amazing to see how people that we are studying about in class tie in so well with our everyday lives!
Plus, Luke 2 begins the story of Jesus’ birth! A topic that is of vital importance to this holiday season!
We read about both Caesar Augustus AND Quirinius, who was the governor of Syria at the time. It’s so fascinating when we can finally see all of these different facts and stories connecting!
Ceasar Augustus is everywhere! But, this is Quirinius, not Quirinus (the Roman god that we have talked about). Those pesky, sneaky i’s.

How I imagine everyone preparing for the final:
Parthenon in COLOR
It’s been over 2,000 years since the Parthenon in Greece has been lit in its original colors. We invite you to join us on Monday, November 30 from 8 - 9 PM as the Tokyo Broadcasting System re-creates history when they project those original colors on the Nashville Parthenon.
The special one night only event is part of Japan’s long-running travel program “Sekai Fushigi Hakken” which means Discover World’s Wonders. “No one in the modern age has ever seen the Parthenon in full color as it originally appeared over 2,500 years ago,” said the program’s director Masanobu Miyoshi. We are so lucky to find out Nashville’s full-scale replica is available for this project.“
Artists from Nashville’s Blackbird Theater will perform music at this free event.
