((ASK AWAY))
Zhi didn’t find herself picking at graves on most days. Today, however, was… one of those days. It wasn’t as if she left that afternoon with the thought, “I’m going to dig up some graves today.” She just left with her usual intentions to wander, in hopes of finding something new. But after circling areas she’s explored again and again, she found nothing.
"Well," she mused to herself, "That sandstorm the other day did kick around a lot of sand in one particular area… perhaps it unearthed something new."
And so, the bird girl trekked onwards, determination and hope in her step. The world has been so boring lately! There was nothing new, and nobody wanted to talk with her about theories or philosophies or anything. The poor thing had nearly died of boredom.
The sun had already set by the time she arrived in the area the sandstorm kicked around. She wandered around for another while and was about to give up when she finally saw something. It seemed that the storm had unearthed part of some building, and tons of graves surrounding it. Yes, she had never seen this structure before! She would have remembered - she remembers everything - but this was something entirely new to her.
The girl was on those ruins faster than a lost man on an oasis. First, she looked over the partially buried building; it was full of sand, so she couldn’t get in, but she certainly looked all over what she could see. It didn’t have any inscriptions or murals on it, so there wasn’t too much to look at. So, Zhi just turned her attention to the graves. She read over the glyphs carved into the stone, seeing if anything had something extra or unique. But.. they all seemed to be your average graves.
Finally, though, she saw - just barely - something sticking out of the sand at the foot of one grave. She immediately sat by it and tried to pull it out to no avail. After a pause, she looked to the grave it was buried beneath and bowed her head. “Pardon the intrusion,” she murmured before digging away. Soon enough, she unearthed it: a nearly fully-intact piece of pottery, probably an urn or something of the sort. Sitting tall with pride, she beamed beneath her mask, dumping the sand that remained inside of it. “What a find!”
No sooner than Zhi’s claws clasped the weathered urn did a frothy darkness spring forth from the grave at which she sat. Like a spirit freed from a bottle, it billowed forth, twisting itself up from the sand and anchoring itself to the surface with a variety of wicked-looking black appendages. A bundle of decaying robes laced with hackneyed stitches and loose bandages seeped with sand as it rose from the ground before her, clutching the bottom of her urn with a pair of grotesque and elongated black talons. After the initial startle, it became clear that the figure was cloaked and soft, cold breaths emanated from its cavernous shawl, smelling strongly of ancient dust and clay.
::I….::
::…beg your pardon…::
::…but I… believe you are holding my urn::
::If you would be so kind as to… just… let go of it,::
The figure tugged gently on the urn as he spoke.
::…I will be on my way.::
::Thank you.::
The girl was preoccupied with admiring her find, so it was a bit of a delayed reaction when she finally did notice the figure. She squawked loudly and nearly fell back, but held tight to the urn. This thing was like nothing she's seen before - it reminded her of a large, shadowy being she once met, but he wasn't crawling out of graves from what she knew.
She did nothing but stare in horror until he spoke; Zhi started, glancing down to the urn in her hands and then back to the cloaked figure. It didn't take her long to notice that it was breathing, so... it was alive? Her brows furrowed beneath her mask as she stared slack-jawed at him for several moments.
"...uh..."
"O-oh, I, uh... sure..." she finally released the urn as he tugged lightly on it again. Before she could even think of what to do, or what would be appropriate to say, she blurted out, "Are you dead? Undead? Where did you even come from? Did ya come from the urn? Did I dump you out? I'm sorry about that, I just got excited - what are you, exactly?"
She had no filter.

Christmas Mistletoe. Reblog and see who leaves you a kiss in your ask box.
Have you ever made a pilgrimmage to the Mountain?
"..Well, judgin' by my whitecloak, I'd say yes."
Xun, what would you have done if not joined the military?
"...I dunno. There was nothin' for me at home, an' I was still young when I left. The only place that would take me in was the military, and they guaranteed money and a place to live. I was livin' on the streets before then... so I imagine I woulda stayed on the streets until I found a job somewhere else."

TMI Tuesday!
((I close tonight and I have to leave in a couple hours, but I may be able to get some done between now and then. and once i’m out of work, hopefully i can do some more!))
Way-Back Wednesday!
((again, i'll try and get to last week's, too!))
"Pardon me strange bird person, but I was told you were knew everything. If that is true then can you tell me what you know about the mountain. I'm only interested in the facts about it though."
"...'Strange bird person?' Is that really the way you wanna greet someone you want information from? I got a name, y'know, and if you're gonna ask for stuff like that you should probably start with asking my name."
"Oh, well. Yeah, I know a lot, kid - not everything, but I'm getting there. And what all do you want to know about the mountain? The type of rock it's made of? The vegetation? The history? The names of the tribes that once flourished there? The names of whatever tribes remain? The current population of the mountain? The past population? The religions? The mythology? There's a lot I kin tell ya. Y'gotta be specific, kiddo."
Hey. Hey Zhi. Hey. I know something you don't know. If you give me ten thousand rupees, I'll share it with you.
Do you ever wish you lived back in time?
