"As a student, I have ambitions, goals, and dreams that I want to achieve in my life."
My name DENNIS MALONG ARGA and I am working hard in my studies so that I can finish my education and take up Psychology in college. Like many young people, I study for my future. My family depends on me, and I am doing my best to complete my high school education. As a Grade 12 student, I am now close to graduating and entering college.
On the first day of school, I felt both excited and nervous. It felt like I was taking my first step into something new, and I kept asking myself if I could handle it. I still remember that during the first day of classes, I hardly spoke to anyone, not even my classmates. Everything felt unfamiliar, and I promised myself that I would not socialize much because I wanted to focus on my studies.
However, during the second week of classes, I realized that being quiet did not suit me. It did not feel like the real Dennis. I am naturally cheerful, playful, energetic, and talkative. I thought that since I was already in Grade 12, I should become more mature and serious. But I learned that I can still focus on my studies while being myself. That is why I eventually became more comfortable around my classmates.
One of the reasons why I am studying hard is because I want to take Psychology in college. I believe this course will help me understand and assist people with autism, especially my nephew who has autism. As his cousin, I feel sympathy for him, and I want to help improve his life. I also hope that someday I can support my aunt by reducing the expenses needed for therapy through the knowledge and skills I gain from this field.
Honestly, I have two dream careers. The first is Psychology, which I see as an important step in my journey. My ultimate dream is to become an attorney. I want to help people, especially those in city jails who may be innocent or who cannot afford a lawyer to defend them. I want to stand up for those who have no one to fight for them in court. I do not want to become a lawyer just for money. Instead, I hope to work for the government, where I can serve the public and help those who need legal assistance the most.
That is why I am doing my best in school. I want to have a good career and a better life in the future. People often say that the youth are the hope of the nation. I believe that is true. However, for me, young people are not only the hope of the nation but also the hope of their families.
In my case, my family depends on me. My older brother is no longer with us. He is not studying anymore, and we do not know where he is. It is painful when someone you love so much is far away from your family, and you do not know how they are doing. I often wonder if he is safe, if he is eating properly, if he has a comfortable place to sleep, and if he is doing well. Many people ask me where he is and whether we have found him, but I do not know the answers to those questions.
Now, I am the one who remains beside my parents. I know that one day, my family will depend on me. They believe that I can help lift them out of hardship because they have no one else to rely on but me. This is why I continue to work hard and study diligently.
I promise myself that I will keep going no matter how difficult life becomes. I will do everything I can to finish my education. I will achieve my goals before thinking of my own comfort. I will fulfill the promises I made to my parents. As a young person, I promise myself that I will become a successful man who can make his family proud.
No matter how many years of struggle I must endure, I know that all of my hard work will eventually lead to positive results. Someday, I will become a successful man. I will become a psychologist, and in the future, I will also become an attorney.
