i’ve wanted to do this for so long and it’s finally here, yay! obviously i had to take some creative liberties with the alien characters since they’re supposed to be modern-day humans in this au, but i hope it still looks close to their canon character designs (partially inspired by @skepticalcatfrog’s aurora high school au, which is v good and you all should read it.)

i’m very interested in the possible rules surrounding syldrathi and their hair. do they all have long hair because they’re not allowed to cut it? are they not allowed to cut it for cultural reasons and/or because it won’t grow back if they do? do some have to cut their hair as punishment if they brought shame to their family or cabal? i have many questions
Yeah!! I’ve got a couple of theories about some of these! Like Kal has already said that Syldrathi don’t grow hair like Terrans do, so maybe that makes the hair growth more sacred as it must be selectively on their heads and potentially at a slower pace. Also since it’s hinted that the Syldrathi age slowly, maybe hair length is treated as a true indicator of an individual’s age in comparison with others who may look like a similar age but actually be younger/older.
Then maybe with the traditional hairstyle of having five braids, it’s related to the number of cabals in Syldrathi society. It’s like a symbol of unity between the 5 cabals as each one is important (Warbreed, Waywalkers, Weavers, Watchers and Workers).
Now I have more questions about what hair means culturally too! Since cutting off their hair must be an extreme punishment if they respect their hair so much. You got some good questions OP!!
