New fan translation of the Disco Elysium novel posted on reddit!

This one comes with the extras and also the original writing/editing/worldbuilding credits, and the lists of hundreds of names of Elysium characters, geographical entities and assorted concepts that fill the inside covers of the printed copy. Hours of unrestrained fun with the lists alone.

And footnotes. So many footnotes. And fayde checks everywhere because you wouldn't believe the stuff that was canonized in English by the game to begin with.

Btw if it can be in any way helpful, I wrote chapter-by-chapter summaries the other month that try to sort of frame which way the plot is going without spoiling further events.

As for the leaked Locust city plot, I did not expect the Suru (Finnish) immigrant community to exist as a far southern island tribe, that lives from selling endemic cave fish psychedelic marrow and (presumably) uses their children to dive for those fish, and the kids don't get their proper name until they are 10yo, maybe because past that age they are less likely to drown.

Funny that, if you read the last log in Doomed Commercial area computer, about a month old, you see the Slipstream SCA were still there, making skis.

It's the company whose bell you ring and hear the entroponetic crosstalk caught in the circuits from a Tricentennial Electrics employee. This company was likely never there in first place. Later, when you ask Soona about the creepy woman, she says she discussed it back then with her colleagues.

So, it was there likely for years, and someone's business went bankrupt because of the creepy voice and because they did not bother to fix their fuckin' bell. When there was nobody else to open the door for the customers, it was their end, because nobody could reach them. And the dicemaker's bell isn't even connected yet, because she's new there (for 15 years).

Such is life in doomed commercial areas.

Perkele is also the name of an Earth-specific pagan deity, so it's for the same reason we don't hear anyone in DE saying ''Jesus Christ.''

Reading the book again, I’ve realized the girls went through the Pale to Graad and back, before they went three times to the beach and then disappeared. So it’s possible they all forgot entirely about their planned meeting, if not about the cherry speed night as well. I guess experienced travellers through Pale use a paper diary to remind them things they have planned, but those kids did not know that. 

For them, that experience with not-mdma wasn’t the first for sure, so likely not the most memorable one. Also the boys weren’t as important to them, as vice versa (especially in case of little Tereesz and Charlotte, I guess).

As for the lack of a monitor/display, according the DE artbook (Tamsalu’s concept art) it was likely to be used with this VR headset-like thing. But it seems it got dropped for some reason - likely because in game text Harry has to read emotions or lack thereof in her face, while she’s working. The computer isn’t properly seen in the isometric view anyway.

I know, that ’milieu’ means also ‘social environment and surroundings’ (I had to look the word up in dictionary), but in the game it’s used in the context of call-in radio stations only. ¨

According the Dicemaker, there used to be a *snuff milieu* in Doomed comercial area about three years ago, ran by some fake window repairmen, who were likely arrested. And according to Cuno and Harry’s skills, Cunoesse allegedly used to be a part of it, there’s a theory she was coerced by them to kill someone (in the shack with red chair, where the bowtie is to be found?).

As @sealinne pointed out, running a snuff radio would require skilled voice performers, who can make a radio performance with no video sound real, regardless of whether a particular murder itself is real or not. (Something like voice acting in a radio play or a game). So, my guess is, that those fake repairmen co-worked with some people from Fortress Accident (4 years there), who tried to make more money for drugs and so. And the rest of them (+ maybe the dicemaker, who is strangely impassive about that, even though it was just next door) thought, that it’s not for real, so they let it be...at least for some time. The Doomed commercial area gets more and more ...interesting, as I think about it.

not sorry when i say all of you people participating in Swap AU have completely misunterstood the most basic, core principles of the game such as “Harry gets away with a lot of what he does because he’s white” and “Kim can’t get away with as much as Harry because he is not” and ESPECIALLY “being a cop is destroying both these men from the inside out in different ways and there’s no way for either of them to be healthy people while they are still cops”

Thank you. Swap AU Kim is not Kim, he’s an entirely different person. I think it’s not only about the race, but about the physical size too - he wouldn’t be taken seriously and wouldn’t accomplish shit then. Because it’s much harder to not take seriously a big hairy brute that is Harry regarless of his ridiculousness, than a small-ish scrawny guy in punk attire who does not even try to look any professional. His professionalism is a significant part of his authority. And I find him too fastidious and stiff to make and wear a punk outfit, piercings and tattoos. He’s not that conceptual.

Apart from what someone already said (fandoms in general being quite sexist,  obsessed with penis, and needing fictional women to comply with their own perfected image of femininity), she’s quite in the shadow of Kim and Harry (I mean their character complexity). Also her quest isn’t much about her - we end up knowing very little of her and her backstory, except the fact she has no other home, likely doesn’t talk to her mum and can’t take speed. The rest is just to be guessed, and while Kim said at some point: ‘’Show me a West Revacholian, who hasn’t had it hard.’’, I don’t think her past is particularly moving for the revacholian standards, it’s going to be one of those weird bullied kid stories people either don’t vibe with, or already found a similar trait in Kim. Also she’s not particularly likable, if you don’t boost your Empathy (quite a paradox, that when your Harry is dumb as a box of rocks, but sensitive, he understands Kim and her much better, than the intellectual or motorics one.)

As for Klaasje, she is hidden behind 7 proxies and I don’t believe her anything she says and take her as a notoric liar, so apart from what we’ve seen in the game, there’s nothing much to work with - too much freedom and not many boundaries you can imagine her backstory and post-canon within.
