It’s time to take action, Tumblr. It’s time for Action on Tumblr.
If you woke up in an America you don’t recognize, if you feel heartsick and scared, if you’ve found some smoldering hope inside of you, if you’re ready to get to work, if you’re fired up to fix this damn place, take Action.
In the buildup to the election, Tumblr hosted important conversations about issues that matter. Today, we’re moving from education to action. With Action on Tumblr, we’ll be handing the megaphone to the marginalized and letting them speak for themselves. In fact, right at this very moment you can ask an undocumented immigrant about her experiences, advice, concerns, hopes—anything—and so far her answers are a hell of a read.
We’ll be providing venues for you all to connect with each other and become your own collective agents of change. We’ll be listening to you and supporting you. Whatever we can do to help you determine the future of the world you live in, we’ll be doing it.
We all need to work together, and we need to work fast. When you’re ready to get to work, or if you’re already making action happen, be sure to post about it and tag it #takeaction.
And if you’ve got ideas—big or small—for what you’d like to see out of Action on Tumblr, our ask box is always open.
Dear Trump Supporter, please read:
Dear Trump Supporter, please read:
You will need to exercise a little patience with the people who voted against Trump.
Please be patient with those who are simply in shock. Please stop telling us telling us to “get over it”. Just try to understand why we are upset. There has been a spike in racial violence after Trump’s election. Donald Trump seems to have taken emboldened racists to new heights. Is this our new America? Do I have to question my own safety?
When Obama took office, there was a sense of security for everyone. You may not have cared that he was the President, but he was never exclusive of your race, sexual preference, gender, religion, or abilities. The pictures and videos after both of his elections were ones of peace and unity.
After Trump’s election, people are reporting violence, racist graffiti, children going to school being bullied by other children with racial slurs, people of color showing up at their offices with racist propaganda being decorated at their desks.
Trump voters, I respect your right to vote for the candidate you think is best. What you need to understand is that in the aftermath of Trump being elected, your vote for Trump gave license to these individuals who feel as though they now have the right to have to racism and bigotry. All we're asking is “why”? When you see these images, do you support them? Why are you so quiet now? Is this what you want for America? More divisiveness? I really don’t know, so I have to ask.
We don't get it, but that's our baggage. We have to endure Trump because we are given no other choice. But when you stand quietly by and let these horrible, deplorable acts of racism go unchecked after he was elected, please understand...we have no choice but to believe that you support a white supremacist, racist, bigoted, misogynistic, narcissistic man to make decisions for you.
Give us a chance to get over the shock, we’ll need it. In addition, show us sympathy when don’t see Trump as America’s savior like you do. Instead, offer us words of comfort on his virtues, his positive points, and assistance in assurance us that what we are seeing from his supporters after the election... won’t be the American people as a whole.
Drop some kind words, if you can.

“OVER HALF OF AMERICAN MILLENNIALS SAY THEY’D CONSIDER LEAVING THE US. HERE’S WHY I’VE ALREADY LEFT.” Why I agree.
http://matadornetwork.com/pulse/half-american-millennials-say-theyd-consider-leaving-us-heres-ive-already-left/ The first 4 reasons are my reasons to a T. Mentally, I have left America during this election season, but here here’s why:
1. "I don’t have to worry about getting sick."
America has one of the world's most expensive, yet least effective healthcare system. Some countries considered Third World have better AND cheaper healthcare than the USA. I feel safer getting sick abroad then getting sick here. In Cuba a lifesaving asthma medication is $100 per month, in Cuba less than a dollar. Yet, I have friends who won't go abroad to seek healthcare due to fear. Dubai has a Healthcare City with topnotch care, Switzerland has a high standard of living that translates into free healthcare. Japan has high life expectancy and low infant mortality rates. Our country has done a great job at making Americans fearful of seeking international healthcare.
2. “Work-life balance” actually seems possible."
Besides a few religious and national holidays, Americans only get 2-3 out of the year for vacation. In America, employers are against employees taking more than a week off for vacation. In most of Europe, that is unheard of. You get six or more weeks of paid vacation a year, plus national holidays. Plus, you are not allowed to skip vacations because paid time off is mandated by law in many parts of the world. Canada guarantees at least 10 days of paid vacation per year. In the US, it is frowned upon when you want a long vacation. America is known as the “No-Vacation Nation”.
You also can have a life with your family. You do not have to put your kids into childcare to keep your job. The UK guarantees 39 weeks of paid maternity leave. Mexico? 12 weeks. In France, they give you 18 months and provide you with a nanny and housekeeper. The US is still the only developed country that doesn’t guarantee paid maternity leave. One of my French friends was blown away when I told her our maternity leave in the US. She emoted sadness and said "how can you be a mother if you cannot be with your child so young, I am so sorry, I had no idea." She also said the French people would revolt against the government if they only got 2 weeks of vacation.
3. As a person of color, being an “expat” instead of a “minority” is kind of relieving".
Internationally, it is an ASSET, to be a woman of color. Unlike in the US where it can be a liability. This is what partly drives my wanderlust. I am invisible internationally. What I mean is, when I travel, I am no longer a minority, like in America. I am only seen as an American regardless of my skin color. To be honest, being an American abroad with all of our "Ugly American" stereotypes being shown internationally, being brown in a foreign country is a piece of cake. Sure, in Japan and Prague we got some stares, but no one clutched their purse when I came close, followed me around a store in case I steal, or said I'm pretty for a black girl (all of which I have experienced in America).
4. "My values as a global citizen are affirmed."
Some of my friends and family don't understand why I travel so much. My travel friends and I don't understand why they don't. The people I meet are parents, rich, poor, teachers, doctors, etc. We come from all places. I identify with being part of an emerging world community and look forward to contributing global values. I want to tear down wall, build bridges, and teach the new generation to appreciate our world. Every trip abroad gives me an opportunity to enlighten. I feel the need to justify my travels with family and friends whenever I hear "it must be nice to travel like that". Instead of feeling anger or guilt from the obvious snark, I now take the time to educate how they too can travel....for free or with kids.
After fifteen months of travel, I returned to the United States ready to give American life another try. Within months, I had changed my mind.
All of my four reasons too.
