I HATE how LGBTQ+ is classified as a genre. which means that any queer media released automatically gets compared to each other. that is in no way fair.

heartstopper is a cute story about young love. first kill is a goddamn vampire thriller (ik romance too, but I'm just picking out the overarching theme here).

why are we comparing the two for any other reason that they feature characters attracted to the same sex? we don't do that with heterosexual media. these two shows are NOT the same genre.

saying that heartstopper is better than first kill for xyz reason (and vice versa) makes no sense bc they are not comparable. compare first kill with stuff like twilight, pretty little liars, supernatural etc. compare heartstopper with other romances (sorry, can't think of any off the top of my head...I don't actually watch a lot of het romances anymore lmaoo).

but the bottom line is stop comparing first kill and heartstopper. they both have merits. they both have shortcomings. but they are not comparable. stop judging queer media against other queer media. compare them to things that are actually thematically similar. stop pitting us against each other

There can be different forms of wlw media. From Portrait of a Lady on Fire to First Kill. Sapphics deserve everything. Every option of media out there. Artistic and deep to teen cringy romance. Cuz we’re all different ages, different cultures, different races, etc. First Kill might not be for you but there’s probably some young sapphic out there losing their mind over it the same way you lost your mind watching Glee. Let us just have stuff plz. We can have more than one form of representation on screen than period pieces.
